SimGolf Tour

While playing simgolf recently, I remembered about the league wig ran about this time last year. After doing a search of the forums, I saw and remember the problem he ran into. The problem was how to get the same golfers in each time so all FOFC golfers would be in each tournament. After experimenting with the pro golfer file I realized there is no set amount of golfers needed. If there is less the game just copies a golfer to fill in the spots. I will only put 35 golfers in the file so every golfer will be in every event. Seeing that I have some free time I have decided to try to run a 16 tournament tour.

Player Ratings:
In the original the player cap was 480 points and it seemed to be good so I will stay with that to start. This allows for varied golfers and hopefully a competitive field.

Tournaments:
I propose a 16 tournament schedule with every 4th being a major. A regular tournament will be 2 rounds with no cut. A major will be 4 rounds and there will be a cut after 2 rounds. (I’m not sure about a cut, its open for debate.)

Tournament Prizes:
Instead of going with the designed simgolf payouts, I’m thinking about using a point system. With the top half getting points decreasing in value from 1st on down. Also for scoring low round of the day you get a bonus point. Majors would be worth double the points. Who ever has the most points at the end of the 16 tournaments will be the tour champion.

Choosing Courses:
I’m not sure exactly how to decide what courses to play on and when. I figure no course should be played on more than once a season so will need 16 courses. If anyone has any ideas on how or what courses to choose, let me know? My only idea is the a winner of a regular tournament get to choose a course for a future regular tournament.

Major Courses:
I am thinking about following the PGA Tour and a set course for the FOFC Masters. Then rotating courses for British and US Opens . Maybe even allow the defending champion to pick were the event will be held the following year. The final major, the Players Championship, will be decided by a vote each year. In the first year, I figure will choose all major courses by a vote.

Sim Schedule:
I figure I can get at least 1-2 tournaments a week if not more. This all depends on my schedule and free time.

The 4 new golfers have been added. Still plenty of room for others to join. I am also thinking of having the 1st round of the 1st tournament on Wednesday night. Still not sure what course it will be on so if anyone has courses let me know.

mrsimperless 07-11-2005 02:43 PM

Dagnabbit, I wish I had more time to make a course before then. It would be fun to create one that plays to Gary's strengths and Airhog's weaknesses. =D

John Galt 07-13-2005 04:51 PM

I'll give it a go:

John Galt, 2, 0, 4, 5, 7, 0F00F000F3

Since I've never played the game and have no idea what is strategically wise, I just decided to go extreme. I'm a long driver with no accuracy who putts well and sure knows how to recover. I could probably use more luck.

Yer screwed.

ram 07-13-2005 07:11 PM

I have added both Stan and John. I will begin the 1st round in about 15 minutes.

ram 07-13-2005 07:39 PM

The inaugural tournament in the SimGolf Tour will be held at scenic El Burro in Spain. The relatively easy Burro is a par 71 and should provide some low scoring rounds.

The inaugural field contains the following 18 golfers:
Hackman
The Hose
Ram
Gary Playa
Payne Stewart
The Pistol
bullman
Airhog
Rolin Bya
Groundhog
Deke Prosser
AJ Tucker
Daedalus
Slacker
Rob Nielsen
Ty Whitt
StanGunner
John Galt

ram 07-13-2005 07:47 PM

Gary Playa, Deke Prosser, and The Pistol get off to fast starts as they birdie their first holes.

ram 07-13-2005 07:52 PM

Gary Playa eagles the second and leads by 1. Deke quickly falls back with a double bogey on his second hole.

ram 07-13-2005 07:59 PM

AJ Tucker hits a hole-in-one to move within 1 of our new leader Pistol. John Galt with the low light of the round so far with a 7 over on the par 3 8th.

ram 07-13-2005 08:19 PM

After 9 holes Ram and The Pistol are tied for the lead at -6. Eight others are at/or under par including AJ(-4) and Daedalus(-3). Slacker(+9), Ty Whitt(+10), and John Galt(+19) are the only ones without a real chance to get to even par.

Vince 07-13-2005 08:27 PM

The hole at the South end of the course is pretty sweet by the lighthouse, and it looks as if the one just northwest of the really tall structure near the middle of the course looks pretty sweet too. I like holes with greens over water :)

Vince 07-13-2005 08:27 PM

Dola -- any chance for a Hackman update?

ram 07-13-2005 08:33 PM

With 5 holes to go it is down to a 2-man race between Daedalus and AJ as Ram and The Pistol have fallen apart.

Hackman is at +7.

Vince 07-13-2005 08:37 PM

+7?!!? Preposterous! We'll have to hit the driving range a little more before the next event.

ram 07-13-2005 08:42 PM

With only 3 holes to play, Rob is trying to mount a challenge to AJ(-5) as he eagled to move to -3. Daedalus has fallen with a bogey followed by a double bogey.

ram 07-13-2005 09:01 PM

In an unexpected finish we wound up with a 3-way tie for first at 3 under. AJ had back to back bogeys opening the door for Daedalus and Rob. All but John's round are below as he finished at +30.

The course played much harder than I thought it would. When I ran a test on the course earlier this week almost 2/3 of the players were under par and I think I few were almost 10 under. I guess the few changes I made had more of an impact than I expected. The final round at El Burro will be Friday night at 9 pm est.

If anyone has any questions or comments about the presentation of the round let me know. Also we need to work out a way to settle ties.

tucker342 07-13-2005 11:28 PM

DAMN! I just had to fall apart at the end...:(

Oh well, I'll take tied for first:)

Travis 07-13-2005 11:29 PM

If Rolin bogies 14 instead of taking a 10, he wins the tourney by one stroke. Holy crap, talk about self destruction.

Vince 07-13-2005 11:37 PM

The 9 on hole 2 killed Hackman.

Oh, who am I kidding, it took a lot more than just that to get my stellar +10.

ntndeacon 07-13-2005 11:49 PM

+1 is not tragic... only three behind the leaders

daedalus 07-14-2005 02:39 AM

Badass! Not a bad opener. Too bad I fubar'ed the 15th and 16th.

Thanks ram. :)

John Galt 07-14-2005 09:53 AM

I am the greatest golfer ever!!!!!!

:)

John Galt 07-14-2005 09:54 AM

BTW, since my results aren't posted, did I birdie a single hole?

ram 07-14-2005 03:34 PM

John I do not remember a 100%, but I do not believe you birdied a single hole.
