Ebbers gets 25 years
Former WorldCom chief, 63 years-old, could spend the rest of his life in prison.

NEW YORK (CNN/Money) - Ex-WorldCom chief executive Bernard Ebbers was sentenced Wednesday to 25 years in prison.

Ebbers was convicted in March of orchestrating an $11 billion accounting fraud at WorldCom, one of the country's telecommunications companies. WorldCom's bankruptcy filing in 2002 ranks as the largest in U.S. history.

A federal jury in New York found Ebbers, 63, guilty of committing nine felonies. The crimes carry a maximum prison term of 85 years.

Ebbers had asked for leniency, arguing that his failing health, community service and personal financial losses from WorldCom's collapse warranted a lighter sentence.

WorldCom is now known as MCI (Research).

As a former MCI/WorldCom employee, I say WooHoo!!

Yeah, there was little doubt of this. He was guilty as stone - hell, some of it isn't even public.

I always love this part. It is as if the defendent is forgetting about all the people who lost their jobs and/or investments because of his criminal actions.

BURN IN HELL BERNIE!!!

I hope he gets ass-raped repeatedly.

I doubt he goes to pound-him-in-the-ass prison.

I hope he only gets the 2nd tier cable package without Skinamax.

Kudos to the justice system and the government investigators.

Probably the most overlooked point in these cases. We should congratulation the prosecution for making a case the jury could understand, and delivering a conviction. These trials were extraordinarily complex, and the government not only had to convince the jury of guilt, they had to make them understand the crime as well.
