lol, pure gold. He's freakin' Jesus H. Christ now.

I know people will be hating on TO and all, but how can you not just laugh at this guy? How can anyone take him seriously?

Infact, you can't!
A new 'great' TO story. I agree, pure gold.

BTW as an Eagles fan sometimes I can't help being a little upset about this guy...

Cringer 07-21-2005 02:13 AM

Not to defend Owens, because I don't like his BS, but I don't see him comparing himself to Jesus. He is refering to Jesus as someone who went through a lot more then he did, but kept going on the path he felt was right. And that Jesus had it worse then he, so why should he complain?

Thats how I read it. I could be wrong.

LionsFan10 07-21-2005 04:04 AM

This is how I read it too, my first reaction was that he was using Jesus as an example, not comparing himself to Jesus in anyway. But because it's T.O you can expect the media to overblow the whole thing and twist his words in anyway imaginable.

Umm, yeah, that's how he's gotten to where he is today, the media twisting his words.

Maybe a little inappropriate example...persecuted as jesus? The guy is making thing bigger than they are...so the media. How can they take so seriously TO? He is a jackass! Have fun on what he says. In the end he is just acting his stupid diva character.

Raiders Army 07-21-2005 05:51 AM

Jesus was jealous when Randy Moss outsold him in jerseys as well.

gstelmack 07-21-2005 09:07 AM

T.O. managed to get himself into the news again? How shocking...

Raiders Army 07-21-2005 09:21 AM

I don't know what version of the Bible he has, but in the version I read, they didn't just try to kill Jesus. They were pretty successful.

WWJD? Now we finally know: hold out for more money up front.

I live in Philly, and TO is hilarious to me. Until he misses week 1, anyway.

Yeah, and so goes the story for Packer fans and Jevon Walker.

screw that. I think all the radio stations should put out an announcement to destroy all of his albums.

(lost on the younger crowd I'm sure).

BigJohn&TheLions 07-21-2005 04:20 PM

Let's see... Jesus was forced to drag a cross thru a crowd throwing stones at him while he wore a crown of thorns. He was then nailed to the cross and stabbed to death.

Terrell Owens cried his way out of San Francisco, refused a trade to Baltimore, signed a new and valid seven-year contract with Philly, and a year later feels slighted even though he gets paid more than 99.9% of Americans just because he can play football better than 99.999% of Americans.

The similarities are rather scary...

TO's situation is fact. Jesus' situation is strictly hearsay. :)

Klinglerware 07-21-2005 05:36 PM

And could Jesus cover TO one-on-one?

timmynausea 07-21-2005 05:42 PM

I've always felt Jesus was pretty overrated. He was a product of God's offense.

Ah, Hay-zues. I like him very much. But he no help with curveball.

Are you trying to say that Jesus Christ can't hit a curveball?!

Philliesfan980 07-21-2005 06:26 PM

Did anyone here think of the "player haters ball" the first time you saw the title of this thread? Hate Hate Hate Hate Hate.

LionsFan10 07-21-2005 08:33 PM

I think what he said more recently about "taking care of his family" is more offensive to me as a person, than the Jesus thing in general. Oh that's right, millions of dollars can't take care of a family anymore, sounds like Latrell Spreewell to me. But to each his own, apologies for saying the media twisted his words, they didn't but I do believe T.O wasn't drawing a comparison to himself, he was using Jesus as an example. A bad example, but an example none-the-less.

JimboJ 07-21-2005 09:14 PM

Don't preachers pretty much say the same types of things in their sermons every Sunday? How we should live our lives according to Jesus' example? Relating our personal issues and world issues to the struggles that Jesus endured?

Whether you a fan of TO or not, and whether you can sympathize with him or not, he is a very religious man, and this contract thing is obviously very important to him. And it seems only natural to me that someone like that would relate his own personal struggles to that of Jesus.

Pacersfan46 07-21-2005 09:17 PM

I don't know why people are making a big deal out of this.

I use that analogy for a lot of minor things I do in my life. It just means that I'm going to do what I think is right, no matter who tells me I'm wrong. This isn't a new saying, or phrase, or some TO made up ****.

If only more people lived without concern of what other people thought of them. As long as I live within the laws, I'll do what I want. I honestly could care less what people say or do around me.

RendeR 07-21-2005 11:31 PM

Best thing for TO , the Eagles, and the NFL is for the Eagles to sit back and let him rot for 6 more years. Eat the salary, don't let that prima donna touch the ball again. He can enjoy the season from the sidelines.

TazFTW 07-22-2005 04:17 AM

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2113696

RendeR 07-22-2005 06:36 AM

Seriously, after reading that little tid bit I'm even more of the belief that Banner should let him rot in Eagles green. They own him for 6 more years. Period. Doing this for his family, my ass. SOmehow his family can't survive on 49 million more over 6 years? Fuck that. Greedy little slime ball. Him and Rosenhaus both.

CraigSca 07-22-2005 07:16 AM

You know, if the Eagles refuse to trade TO and just let him rot, I may have to become an Eagles fan.

RendeR 07-22-2005 07:25 AM

I'm already a mildly Eagles-fan-ish sort, but if they actually let him sit and rot I'll make them my #2 =)

JimboJ 07-22-2005 07:57 AM

I guess letting him sit and rot may or may not be a good idea, depending on what his trade value is right now. If he has tarnished his rep to the point that the Eagles will never get anything of value for him, then I say let him rot. But there may be a team out there who needs to sell tickets so badly that they are willing to give up a high draft pick(s) to get him. In that case, I would say trade him!

jeff061 07-22-2005 08:04 AM

Can't they let him rot AND fine him as well?

How can you trade him? You'll be taking a huge cap hit for the next two years. You'd take less of a hit making him sit (which I seriously doubt he'll do for longer than maybe the first couple of games in the season).

They can fine him, request (or sue) him to repay a portion of his signing bonus for every season lost, and refuse pay him his base salary. For that reason, I would let him rot on the bench for the length of his contract until he came back with his tail between his legs. It's a no-win situation for Owens. He loses upcoming income and possibly a good portion of the money he made in the past.

JimboJ 07-22-2005 11:27 AM

So if he sits, does his salary count against the cap? I would think not, since he's not actually earning a salary.

I believe it still does because he's under contract.

Yup. But what happens (in the arena of fantasy here) if T.O. agrees to pay back part of his signing bonus? Could he do that to facilitate a trade?

Good question. He would be paying back the signing bonus to the Eagles, but probably getting a new, bigger signing bonus from his new contract with his new team.

The net cap hit of trading TO would actually be negative. Most of his bonus money was in the form of a roster bonus last year, which means it all went on last year's cap.

If that's true, I'd trade him in a heartbeat. Get rid of the stress. That would be what would be best for the team.

Klinglerware 07-22-2005 03:45 PM

Wow, people here are really hating on T.O., some of them appear ready to crucify him too...

TazFTW 07-22-2005 05:00 PM

TO said he will be in camp.

This was then followed by Drew Rosenhaus saying that it is not definitive.

korme 07-22-2005 05:07 PM

I can't even be pissed at TO. He is getting paid 7mil, but he is bottom line the best receiver in the game. He should be getting paid like so. Especially with contracts not being guaranteed in the NFL.

Then he should have only signed a one year contract, so his valuation can be changed at the end of the season. No one forced him to sign a 7 year deal, and it is no secret that the rules of the game are that the contracts are not guaranteed.

Yeah, if he could have gotten a better deal he should have taken it.

Greyroofoo 07-22-2005 06:54 PM

I always had the feeling that Jesus being nailed to the cross was just the result of bad carpentry
