OT: Stephen Chow movies.
Shaolin Soccer (Miramax, 2003) - http://www.apple.com/trailers/mirama...ccer-tlr2.html
Kung Fu Hustle (Sony, 2005) - http://www.apple.com/trailers/sony/kung_fu_hustle.html Not sure if you guys are familiar with his Movies. Miramax botched the US Release of Shaolin Soccer, the HK version is still best. Kung Fu Hustle, on the other hand was handled well by Sony. :) |
I own two copies of Shaolin Soccer. One is the HK version and the other is the Miramax release. I plan to pick up Kung Fu Hustle soon. Probably not this week as I'm getting ready to move.
I also have one of his earlier films on DVD, God of Cookery. |

I also have both versions of Shaolin Soccer. I have the Kung Fu Hustle DVD with me as well. God Of Cookery is also one of my favorites! :) Nothing beats THE EIGHTEEN BRASSMEN OF SHAOLIN!!! I have King of Comedy and Tricky Master on DVD. The funny thing is, no matter how many times Chow rehashes his formula, he's still one of the funniest guys out there... and he makes terrific movies. |
I own just the MiraMax release of Shaolin Soccer. When was Kung Fu Hustle released on DVD? Or do you....ahem....own a bootleg. That's one movie I want to see badly but hadn't got a chance with kids and all.

Bootleg? I live in the Philippines. We're practically the bootleg capital of SouthEast Asia. :D |

Damn...should have paid attention to your location. You are such a lucky Klingon bastard. I will probably have to wait another 3 to 6 months before I could see it. |
Kung Fu Hustle is being released on DVD today.

Seriously....that's how far I am out of the frickin loop. Ho-hum...thanks now I could stop by Fry's Electronics and get one. |
I loved Shaolin Soccer and Kung-Fu Hustle.
He has a few more movies like these, right? |
Those two are his latest, MikeVic. Try God Of Cookery, it was made in the mid-90's... looks like Iron Chef, but with loads of comedy. :)

I finally got around to watching Kung Fu Hustle after seeing a preview of it a year ago or so. I have long been a fan of kung fu movies and count Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon as one of my very favorite movies. I wasn't fully prepared for Kung Fu Hustle but I thought it was so good that I just wanted to keep watching it over and over. I like what Ebert said about it, "like Jackie Chan and Buster Keaton meet Quentin Tarantino and Bugs Bunny", or another variation: Three Stooges meet Bruce Lee in The Matrix. I want to see Shaolin Soccer and know that I'm going to love that as well. Kung Fu Hustle may be my most favorite foreign language film.

I saw Kung Fu Hustle and couldn't stand it. I actually liked the stuff with Chow's character the best, but when it focused on the townspeople and stupid repetitive jokes it completely lost me.
|
I agree with Bucc in that I loved Kung Fu Hustle. Especially the battle between the Beast and the two (innkeepers are they?).
I liked Shaolin Soccer better, but Kung Fu Hustle was great :D. |
Poor Thin Guy: "I am the Kung Fu master..."
*kung fu master lady punches thin guy in the face. Guy is knocked out cold. Kung Fu Master Lady: "No...nope, he's not." |
