I just quit my job...

I just gave my 2-week notice and am moving out of the ISP world and into the consulting world. I really hope I am doing the right thing.

I need beer, and lots of it, right now.

Good luck, Brian. It is much better to be your own boss, hope it works out for you.

Good luck BrianD. At least this way, you'll have more time to play Werewolf games on FOFC!

What's the Over/Under on the number of weeks before you beg for your job back...

Do you ever contribute anything to this forum?

BrianD 08-11-2005 07:26 PM

Thanks for the good wishes. I'm actually not doing private consulting. I'll be working for a consulting company with a full consulting staff. I'm hoping to start off with network consulting, and then shift to project management and eventually department management. I want to be the guy that tells everyone else what to do rather than do it myself. :D

hoopsguy 08-11-2005 07:48 PM

Good luck Brian. I moved from an inside computer job to a consulting position about eight years ago and feel like it really helped me to grow at a rate I never could have before.

I still enjoy the role of the doer more than the manager, but it gets a little harder every year to have the same passion to learn new technology, get re-certified, etc. Long hours, very high highs and some pretty low lows.

Get over yourself, your not that important...

Dutch 08-11-2005 07:57 PM

Good luck and keep us informed. Sounds pretty exciting to me. :)

jeff061 08-11-2005 07:57 PM

Good luck man. Got to take those risks, even if they don't pan out. I certainly hope it does though ;).

I day dream about going into general IT consulting(network, OS, various apps) for myself. I'm young right now, don't need a ton of money, and have plenty of time to invest. So I figure if I could get something started now would be a great time. Management and I historically do not mix(the catalyst for this) and I have a pretty strong passion for my job.

But, I don't really know where to start :D.

How does a consultant not need to keep up with current technology? How do you get to tell people what to do if you don't know what is out there?
