1980s Song Title Puzzle

Okay, here's a collection of clues for 1980s song titles. I think they are all 1980s, and if not, they are very close in the late 1970s or early 1990s. Some clues are literal, some are not. There are 25 artists/bands, one for every letter of the alphabet except X. The clues are sorted alphabetically, but this has no impact on the puzzle other than to randomize the list. Artists can be used for the first letter of either their first or last name (example: Steve Winwood could be an “S” or “W”). Ignore the word “The” for band names (Example: The Cars would fall under “C”). I will acknowledge and "green font" the correct answers once they are posted. Good luck!

444 = A Flock of Seagulls, "I Ran"

August 2004!!! = The Motels, "Suddenly Last Summer"

Boy, it’s warm this evening! = Loverboy, "The Kid is Hot Tonight"

Certainly not a flush for this poker player = Yes, "Owner of a Lonely Heart"

Chess statement = Olivia Newton John, "Make a Move on Me"

Cool miracle to do = Devo, "Whip it"

Cupidian concrete might do it = Quarterflash, "Harden my Heart"

Jack’s critical dance partner = Elton John, "Nikita"

Jacksonian squeeze = Rick Springfield, "Jesse's Girl"

Lead Bronco’s got some of this = INXS, "Devil Inside"

Long, high triple shot = Van Halen, "Jump"

No Hamlet ending = Crowded House, "Don't Dream it's Over"

Oedipal school subject = Thomas Dolby, "She Blinded Me With Science"

Saint Anthony’s familiar refrain = U2, "I still haven't found what I'm looking for"

Sibling Wildcat slayer = Night Ranger, "Sister Christian"

Thanks, H.H. = J Giels Band, "Centerfold"

Tom Hanks’ hour = Peter Gabriel, "Big Time"

Unsafe, but not the end = Kenny Loggins, "Danger Zone"

I like Loverboy's The Kid is Hot Tonight better for this one.

Qwik and Quik are correct, two down.

Yup. I think the song title is just "Centerfold."

Kyrie Elesion by Mister Mister?

Nope and nope.

Long, high triple shot - "One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer" - George Thoroughgood and the Destroyers

WSUCougar 08-15-2005 01:25 PM

Good try, but not what I was looking for.

Klinglerware 08-15-2005 01:31 PM

Chess statement = Murray Head, "One Night In Bangkok"?
Jacksonian squeeze = Michael Jackson, Billie Jean?
Oedipal school subject = Police, Don't Stand So Close To Me?

Warhammer 08-15-2005 01:34 PM

Jacksonian Squeeze could also be Dirty Diana by Michael Jackson

Mr. Wednesday 08-15-2005 01:35 PM

This is a long shot, that I don't think is likely to be correct, but... chess statement, One Night in Bangkok - Murray Head?

(I'd sooner guess that it's something related to "check" or "checkmate".)

oliegirl 08-15-2005 01:41 PM

Saint Anthony’s familiar refrain

Doctor, Doctor??? I think it way by the Thompson Twins...

John Galt 08-15-2005 01:42 PM

Is the chess statement that Busta-Rhymes song? Something like "Woo Ha, I got you all in check?"

WSUCougar 08-15-2005 01:55 PM

All rather clever interpretations, but no hits.

"Famous" is in there for a reason, but not as an adjective to describe the weather pattern. It's wordplay that matches something in the song title.

More along those lines...but no.

QuikSand 08-15-2005 02:47 PM

Famous ===> star? celebrity? hero? popular?

I'm thinking the word might be star, but haven't gotten anywhere with that...

WSUCougar 08-15-2005 02:54 PM

You guys might want to set aside "Famous Weather Pattern" until you whittle down the letters. It may be clearer once you know which letter artist/band you're looking for.
