Most extreme case I've seen of low ratings vs. great combine?

It just may be.

Hmm, mob name. Maybe he lost a body part or two.

Edit: Duh, this is pre-draft.

Ben E Lou 09-21-2005 07:35 PM

Well, I'm in year 2 of a new Empty Cupboard career, so I'm going to draft him and play him.

gstelmack 09-21-2005 07:38 PM

There is at least one of those in EVERY draft I've run (of course, my league is only on its second FOF draft, the others were from TCY). I always see at least one mid-30s rated player who has fantastic combine numbers. Two of them will be my starting CBs this season (58 and 61 futures, with the first almost fully developed), and one of the other GMs got to this season's candidate before I could.

Suspiciously, almost all of them are DBs...

I haven't seen them quite this low-rated, I don't think.

Ben E Lou 09-21-2005 07:52 PM

I took him 6(1), fwiw.

Actually, that 21 current means he's pretty decently rated. I see mid-teens current / mid-30s future with those numbers at least once per draft.

Ben E Lou 09-21-2005 08:41 PM

Up to 26/41 post-training camp.

Dutch 09-21-2005 08:49 PM

You would have drafted him in the 2nd round if this were IHOF. :p

In all seriousness, I'll bet he would have gone mid-to-late 3rd round.

I believe the WR in our last draft is a good example of a player we would normally draft in round 6 or 7 that went in the 2nd round.

What was his name...Cary Dole, drafted at 2.31 by Buzzbee. No AI player would have likely touched him.

Kozure 09-21-2005 09:25 PM

At least he is 61 percent of the way developed. :)

How did that guy turn out? I haven't checked.

Poli 09-22-2005 08:06 AM

5'8"?

gottimd 09-22-2005 08:15 AM

That is 68 inches of pure football potential.

Raiders Army 09-22-2005 08:50 AM

Is his agent a master?

I can't remember his pre draft numbers, but I think he's the exact same. Maybe up a point or two in future?

JeffW 09-22-2005 10:51 PM

This guy will surely breakout. The more I play FOF2K4, the more I appreciate the importance of combine scores. The scout ratings are of secondary importance.

stevew 09-22-2005 10:52 PM

Most of the time, rounds 4-7, in solo play, i draft guys with extreme bench scores for their position, as they tend to break out.

Ben E Lou 09-25-2005 07:45 PM

Season 1: 16 starts (all at SS), 9 INT's, 11 passes defensed, 20.6 PDPct, 83 tackles 23 assists, rated 30/41 at the end of the year, Defensive Rookie Of The Year

Ben E Lou 09-25-2005 08:09 PM

34/47 at the beginning of free agency in year 2.

nilodor 09-25-2005 09:17 PM

I imagine he might end up mid to high 60's for overall rating, should be quite the centerfielder for you.

Somehow I misread this as "...should be quite the centerfold for you."

Must be Monday...

Ben E Lou 09-28-2005 08:10 AM

In Year 2, Valencia doesn't get as many INT's, but he improves other numbers to register a better PDPct than last year: 3 INT's, 15 passes defensed, 28 catches allowed (down from 44). His PDPct was 20.7, and he had 68 tackles and 21 assists. Beginning of free agnecy in season 3 (2008), he's up to 46/51.

That's how I read it as well:)

pretty good pick up for a 6th round pick

Ben E Lou 09-29-2005 04:53 AM

This guy has been fun to watch closely so far. In Year 3, he picks off 5, breaks up 13, gives up 32 catches, all good for a 20.6 PDPct. He also racks up 70 tackles and 24 assists. After Year 4's training camp, he's up to 59/59.

Ben E Lou 10-11-2005 02:17 PM

Update:

Entering Year 8, he's rated 64/64, is a Mentor, and has started 95 games in 7 seasons, with 78 passes defense, and a career 20.3 PDPct.

stevew 11-01-2005 08:18 AM

This guy was pretty extreme. I drafted him in the second, and he busted.

Pre Draft

Post draft.

Those are stud combine numbers. I'll sign him and see what happens, this bust is totally odd.

stevew 11-01-2005 08:22 AM

dola, I thought the original title of this post applied when i started the post, until i discovered he busted. It would be extreme if he had those combine numbers and a pre draft potential of only 36 overall.

Icy 11-01-2005 09:26 AM

I had a good boom this year in the NAFL Draft, he is already starting this year as he was 92% developed. His volativity was just average so the developed % was what made me draft him in the 4rd round as i hoped the boom it ended having.

During draft

After Draft

Ben E Lou 11-01-2005 09:49 AM

Seeing this thread bumped made me want to check on Valencia. He's no longer a Falcon, as I couldn't keep him around due to cap issues. At the beginning of his 12th year, he's rated 67/67--the eighth-best rating for either safety position in the current universe. He has a career PDPct of 20.2, and is still getting 70-80 tackles per full season.
