ootp board

I haven't been able to get on since early this morning anyone know what's going on with it?

mauchow 09-28-2005 02:35 PM

I was going to post something about it here too, but figured I'd better not.

mh2365 09-28-2005 02:36 PM

so it's not just me then

Ben E Lou 09-28-2005 02:40 PM

Hmmm.....I just tried, too, and couldn't get on.

mh2365 09-28-2005 02:43 PM

I just e-mailed Andreas ... I'll let you know if/when I get a response

hoosierdude 09-28-2005 02:56 PM

Talked to Markus earlier this afternoon, they were going to reset the servers and things hopefully will be normal soon.

mh2365 09-28-2005 07:43 PM

haha..Yeah, they've gone straight to hell haven't they? I think they expanded too fast and now they're unable to keep up.

So freakin' annoying, too. Because they used to be really great.

yeah, I've been sending them some "nice" emails lately, which they have summarily ignored. I wish I hadn't given them the benefit of the doubt when I re-upped in April and now I'm locked in for a while longer.

Rizon 09-28-2005 08:33 PM

I haven't been able to get on in a year.

Oh wait, it's cause that board sucks.

FBPro 09-28-2005 08:38 PM

Server problems is what I heard, should be back up soon.

mh2365 09-29-2005 07:41 AM

Just got an e-mail from Andreas and he said server harddisk crashed and will probably be tommorrow before it is up

I'm going to be pissed if that means all the prior data is wiped out.

hoosierdude 09-29-2005 09:50 AM

Most likely it would go to the latest backup of the site. I wouldn't worry about prior data being lost at this point. Most likely it is just going to take a while before everything is reimported and set up.

Ben E Lou 09-30-2005 07:16 AM

Things aren't looking good.

Icy 09-30-2005 09:19 AM

Board is up, but the backup they loaded is way outdated, the last post was from 07-13-2005. I hope they can find a more recent backup.

According to what I've heard, they were *hoping* that the 7/13 backup would work. Sounds like this is the best they're going to be able to do.

Quick update about the forums.

On Wednesday, Sept. 28th, the server "hanged" and we requested a reboot. But the server didn't start again and support told us that they will have to install a new harddisk with a fresh system on it, also installing the old harddisk as a slave drive.

The crash occured at noon during the backup run, and it's obviously not been a hardware problem, but a file system problem. The only backups that were not on the server HD and the forums HD, were two backup sets from July 17th, the other one from March.

After long discussions about trying to rescue the old HD file system which turned out to be corrupt, we found out we were not able to recover the latest backups since there were bad sectors, and total sections that were unrecoverable.

The crash occured at the backup around noon like all scheduled backups, which also regretfully interrupted files that were needed to reinstall the most recent forum file system information. When the server reset, it also left us without a complete backup except for the July and March backups which were in other locations.

For now I believe that Andreas will build from the July 17th database, and go from there since all the other backup databases from the 7/17 on were unusuable due to the catastrophic crash during a backup, and a HD failure.

This isn't a lot, but some info in a nutshell on the situation.

SelzShoes 09-30-2005 11:01 PM

Great to see the cowards that Mod that board are letting banned posters back
 Once again proving, if you are an OT regular it doesn't matter how much you harrass others or break the rules--the Mods will let you do whatever you want.
