Do you remember this game idea?
I know it's been about 4 years since this game was supposed to be released, but I don't think it ever did. This was supposed to be a sort of online/reality game, where the producers created a bunch of bogus websites, which you would need for clues. There was a thread about it here at FOFC where some people signed up, and I guess it turned in to vapor ware. Because I never heard anything else about it.
I think EA was releasing it, but not positive on that part. When you signed up, you were supposed to give your phone number, AIM name, and maybe your email and home address. When the game kicked off, they were going to call you on your home phone, and leave a message. At that point, the game would be underway, and you had to solve some sort of mystery, and bounce around between real and bogus websites to find more clues. You were told to expect phone calls, and mysterious AIM messages. Was the message from someone trying to help, or from someone trying to throw you off track? That sort of thing. Does anyone remember this game idea, or heard why it never happened? |
It did happen - at least for a while. They released 2-3 free episodes and then went to a pay per episode model. I went through the paid episodes, got a few calls on my cell phone, got a fax, and at first thought it was pretty interesting.
But it quickly became very lame. And once they started charging for it, I quit. I can't remember the name of it, but it seems like it started with an "I" or an "E". |
I had a couple friends play it for a few months. They liked it, but appearantly not enough people did, because it stopped pretty quickly. It was called Majestic.

When they did the movie A.I., they did something similar to what they were making with Majestic. Difference was it was completely free and beat Majestic to the punch.

Yep, it was Majestic. I was part of the beta team. It was interesting, receiving phone calls from it, having it IM you, etc... I remember having to call a phone number to get access to someone's voice mail. Decided not to play with it after the beta as I thought the price was too much for an episode ($9.95 I think).

I remember this stuff -- was pretty interesting. Some puzzle-solving, and some other background stuff that was pretty provocative. Far more interesting than, say, the movie A.I. which I found mostly just irksome. |
Oh yeah, Majestic. That's it. That doesn't start with an I or an E. Hmmm...

There's some serious nerds on the internet.
