Open Office 2.0 released

The new version of openoffice has been released this week. I just downloaded it and played around a bit with it. It doesn't look all that different from the last version but has a couple of nice things like the enhanced .pdf export and the database front end. For those of you that haven't heard of openoffice it's a free office suite that will run on pretty much anything(windows/linux/mac). If you don't have an office suite or have an old version of MS office you might want to check it out.

Thanks for pointing this out. I love OpenOffice and use it rather than buying MS Office.

Thanks for the update. I couldn't imagine actually buying MSOffice when this is available, outside of business use, and even then...

Yes in fact it can open any MS office format. Ther last version does this well and the new version is supposed to have almost no problems doing this. I don't do this often as I only use OO(OpenOffice) but if someone sends me an excel or powerpoint document OO has always opened it perfectly and that was with the old version.

I have never done this but the way to do this is when you go to save choose the extension that has the MS office choice. It should work like a charm and it's free. As far as open source programs go I think OO is one of the best, if not the best, around. I highly recommend it.
