Can I buy an FOFC clue? DOOM?
Ok, so I have been told many times here to go to rottentomatos and read their reviews before I go see a movie. But, the reviews are crazy on DOOM over there right now. They are either praising it as the Next Aliens, or they are saying it is worse that Super Mario Brothers. It is like at 26%, but if you read the reviews you will quickly see that there is no middle ground for this movie. Everyone either Loved it or Hated it. I think this is a good sign for me.
I also suspect that half the people that are bashing the movie don't understand why people who are praising Doom think Aliens is a good movie in the first place. So here I am, looking for some People who know their Sci-Fi Horror Movies to clue me in. I figure I can get a better feel for the movie from people here. BTW...I think Aliens is one of the Greatest Movies of all time and better than the original. Aliens to me is the modern day King Kong. |

I think your best bet is to assume it sucks ass unless there's a large amount of evidence pointing to otherwise.
I can't imagine it not sucking ass. The only thing it is missing is Uwe Boll directing. |
Just see the movie. If you even think you want to see it, see it. I'm sure you've seen plenty of crappy movies to justify the roll of the dice here.

Or Manute Bol? |

I would hazard a guess that Manute Bol would do a much better job directing than Uwe Boll. Uwe is the king of crappy video game to movie translations and he's got more in the pipeline! House of the Dead Alone in the Dark Hunter: The Reckoning Far Cry Bloodrayne A Dungeon Siege Tale Quite a list of work there. Two already out and the rest surefire award contenders. A fugging Dungeon Siege movie! It boggles the mind. |
House of the Dead was the most horrible movie I've ever spent money on to see it in a theater.
|
I am hoping to get a real FOFC review tonight. Friday Night.
Someone here has got to go see this. They are predicting it to open at the #1 position. |

House Of The Dead is probably the worst movie I have ever seen. |

The movie is going to suck dick... it's plainly obvious. Obviously you're looking for a reason to go see it though, so just do it. |

I would, in all seriousness, put it on the top 10 worst movies I've ever seen. And I've seen some real crap. :) |
All I know is that the Rock is an awesome action star, and not a bad actor.
I'll rent it when it comes out on video. |

You know what we did to kids in the hood who threadthieved? |

I know what threadjacked means, but not threadtheived? And, yes I am desperately wanting to hear so good buzz about this film. |

yes, they are :) but thats based on a terrible box office the past few weeks, and doom's massive screen count vs other new releases. |
For what it's worth, I just got back from the movie.
Is it Oscar-level material? It is not. Is it a pretty damn fun time? Yep, I'd say so. I'll make this a spoiler-free post, but this movie does pay more than a little homage to Aliens, and does so with taste, I think. The Rock does a good job at his role, teetering right on the edge of overacting but not quite getting there. Karl Urban, whom some of you might know as Vaako from Chronicles of Riddick or Kirill, the evil Russian hitman from The Bourne Supremacy also did a rather good job, I thought. On a side note, Rosamund Pike makes an appearance in the movie, and I'd have to say that even though she's more than eye-candy to this film, she'd have done a hell of a job as eye-candy for this film. :p For fans of the game, and those that know a thing or two about id software, you'll notice a few in-jokes. Other than that, it's a good way to spend two hours, and it'll be much more fun in-theatre than at home on a small screen. Worth the eight bucks? You betcha. |
Karl Urban also was Eomer in "LOTR:The Two Towers" and "LOTR:Return of the King"

HAHAHAHA. Uwe Boll. Every time I hear he's in line to direct another movie I wonder: WHY?????? I don't fall asleep watching movies very often, but I fell asleep watching Alone in the Dark (actually, judging the crowd when I saw it, it should have been called "Alone in the Movie Theater") and House Of The Dead. Spliced-in video game clips were both laughable and the best parts of the movie.
Who is paying uwe Boll? May as well give the money to Kim Jong Il |
I, too, fell asleep during Alone in the Dark. I had my reservations about seeing it, but it had a "name" actor in Christian Slater so I didn't think it would be that bad (also my mistake overlooking the Tara Reid Factor).
House of the Dead was a really horrible movie, but I think Seizure took the cake for the worst movie I've ever seen. It had the little guy from Fantasy Island (de plane! de plane!) as the bad guy, I believe. My brother and I rented it because it was in the horror section and had a ninja on the cover...and hey, we were like 14 and 11 years old. |
Dola, I just looked at imdb and saw it was Oliver Stone's first movie...no wonder I hated it.
|
I saw Elizabethtown last night. I don't know why, but every time I see Kirsten Dunst in a movie, she just looks more and more appealing and her acting ability gets better and better.
Wimbledon is my favourite Dunst movie, though. |

Well, I can't tell you if you don't know what it means. Just tell me that dumbass Soul Sphere isn't in the movie. |

Loved the music though. I might even have to see if I can pick up the sound track. God I miss real heavy metal. What was that closing creadit song about Angels? Also, nobody got that StarGate feeling with all those symbiotes(SP) slithering around. EDIT: Cool 6 music videos available on the DVD. Nightwish "Wish I had an Angel" |
Oops, spoke to soon. Those other 5 videos were complete crap. I knew there was a reason I never considered myself a metal head.
The Nightwish song is awesome though. |
