anyone interested on buying a Laptop
An HP zd7140us BUT I need to disclose that tha AC receptacle needs some fixing. Likely someone needs to open it and replace the AC receptor. Otherwise the computer is awesome. Nvidia graphics card plays Civ4 fine for a Laptop, 17" widescreen, CD-R, DVDrom, Pentium 4, Windows XP etc.
Im going to buy a new Laptop. Im tired of fighting with the AC receptacle and dont know how to open it and dont want to dump more money into it. Ill take offers on here but its not an auction. |
Ill give ya 100$ for it :D
|
$101 Canadian
|
$105
|
$106 and a USFL site overhaul
|
Tell ya what Flasch, ship me the laptop, and a money order for the cost of shipping it back via USPS, and I will do the work for free, then you can sale it if you'd like.

seriously? |
Sure, the company I work for does laptop repair on some of our products that have them. It's not my job to repair them, but I have watched them take the laptop apart, and I am fairly confident I could fix it. Let me know what you think.
|
Sell it to me for 200
|
PM me your address but Im nervous sending my computer off to a stranger :) hmmm

I agree but the damned A/C plug in just wont stay connected for me. Like right now it works, but soon it will start making the screen flash and the power starts surging, like it cant fully connect. I have to pry things against it under it to make it angled enough to touch the middle pin and the outer ring for the connection. It is simply too frustrating for me to fight with anymore. Apparently the 8700's plug is different so I wont have to fight with it or run the risk of fighting it. |
i guess im going to try to get it fixed to give it to GF. It can replace her Presario circa 1993. Airhog...i might although i guess im going to take it up to this computer place up the street that worked on it once, to no avail...another try :)

Pretty much exactly what I bought about six months ago, expect I have a 2.0GB RAM and a ATI 64MB x300 card. |

are you happy with it? anything you wish you did different? |

I'm extremely happy with it. I love this baby. Civ 4 looks stunning and runs like a cat. I just wish I could of gotten a longer warranty then the one-year offer online, but that wasn't a HP decision, but due to some stupid state law in NY (Dell and all the other online retailers have the same thing). |

wooo, i added the 2 year warranty where they overnight you a pack, you overnight it back and they have it back to you fixed in 48 hours. Hopefully i wont need to use it but this stupid AC crap had me getting the warranty.... |
dola looking back you have a different vid card....thisis what I got:
256MB ATI Mobility Radeon(TM) X600 is there something better? is yours better? I should have gotten what you got? |

I would gotten atleast a 3-year warranty if I could have. If I'm gonna spend $2k on a laptop, might as well pay the small extra increase to protect it. Reading over your post again about the AC battery plug, I had the same problem. But I found it be with certain outlets that it didn't work well. |
Nice spec. What kind of price range is it in?
I have serious wood for a laptop so I could chill somewhere and play CM [er, FM] but I'm always afraid of not being able to play FM proper. I could really care less about graphics since most of my time would be spent with FM and browsing. I could conceivably eventually peek at R:TW but the only other game I can think of spending serious time with would be Civ 4. |

Flasch: No big deal, let me know if they cannot fix it. As for sending it to a stranger, I cannot help ya there. But you would have my address if I didnt send it back. Its not like I am going to have you send it to a P.O. box :D

true!!! |
so now im having buyer's remorse cuz the place that has been working on it, I called them, and they said "dont buy a new one, yours isnt that old. We can fix it no problem." I dont think that they can fix the root of the problem which is that adapter portion, the receptacle is heating up to ungodly proportions and that is what is causing the metal connectors inside to bend so that they dont have the pressure to touch the pin. Anyways, sucks, I hate it when I feel like this. makes my stomach hurt. theyre still going to fix the old one so that GF can have it though. Hopefully it lasts a long long time for her.
|
BTW, the store here said they would fix their own work free. They guaranteed it be a longterm fix and definitely reiterated that I should return the one I just bought and see if I can get at least another year or 2 out of this technology. hmmmph. I probably will return it.
|
Damn Flasch, this is kinda reminding me of my recent laptop situation.
In my case though, its her laptop that had issues including problems with the adaptor recepticle (sp?). Dropped it off for warranty repair AND bought her a new one the same night. Well, the new one is suiting her fine but after 6 weeks of waiting we finally get the old one back ... and they hadn't fixed but about half the stuff that was on the work order. So it's been another two weeks & still counting. Like your old one is going to the GF, my wife's old one is destined for me as mostly a games-and-internet-while-traveling machine. |
welp i dropped it off to get fixed today so ill let you all know. I may just be, and am leaning towards simply shipping back the new one if the old one, "Bloody Mary" works.
