Gameplanning and precedence

Okay...after all of these years, I've finally taken an interest in trying to gameplan my team. In the past, I've just done the recommended gameplan for everything, but I'm changing now.

I searched on FOFC and couldn't find anything, so maybe it's out there. When I set my gameplan, which "situation" takes precedence? I mean, if it's in the 4th quarter and I'm losing but I'm inside my 3 yard line, which situation does the computer go with? Is it the 4th quarter and losing situation or the inside your own 3?

I don't remember offhand, but I'm sure I remember seeing it clearly outlined in the documentation or somewhere ingame the order of precedence.

Ah...maybe it would help if I read the help file. I'll check it out when I get home.

Offensive Game Plan Screen

The Offensive Game Plan Screen allows you to set part of the game plan your team uses when simulating games.

This portion of the game plan is only in effect during the specified game situation. The game situation is determined by the score of the game and how much time is left in the game.

The fields at the top of the screen determine the game situation. When enabled, you can change the fields to adjust when that situation applies. For instance, you can set the game plan for situations when you have a lead to trigger only when you lead by 14 or more points.

The grid on the left of the screen indicates how often you run the ball in the specified game situation. A value of `60' in one of these fields means that you choose a running play 60 percent of the time when you're faced with one of these situations.

The section below dictates how often your team will perform an action compared to the league average. A `50' for 'go for it on fourth down' does not mean your team will attempt a first down in 50 percent of its fourth down situations. It means that your coach will assess the situation, and has an average likelihood of attempting a first down, compared to other coaches.

The fullback rushing percentage field dictates how often your fullback will be the primary ball carrier. Keep in mind that fullbacks often don't have the endurance to support running the ball more than a few times per game.

The reverse frequency is not a percentage. It indicates how often your team will attempt wide receiver reverse plays, compared to the average team.

The Run direction by percentage area of the screen indicates the percentage of runs your team will run in each direction. These values will be adjusted to add to 100 percent when you exit the screen.

The Pass distance are of the screen indicates the percentage of passes your team will attempt at each distance. On third downs, or in clock management situations, these percentages will not always apply. Set the screen passes and short yardage passes higher for a more "West-Coast Offense" style of play. Set the longer distance passes higher to simulate a more risky passing offense. These values will be adjusted to add to 100 percent when you exit the screen.

Select the Recommend button to have your coach set the values on the screen.

So, does this mean the situation trumps the field position then?

It tells you on the play screens:

[Normal Situations]: "This situation is superceded by the fourth quarter and the yardage situations."
[Inside 3]: "...by the fourth quarter situations."
[4th quarter]: "...used in all fourth quarter situations within this point spread."

It's below the from X points to Y points fields.
