Whats your favorite military Aircraft?
If you had to pick one aircraft as your favorite, which would it be?
For me, there is no greater CAS plane then the A-10 Warthog. I love the way it looks, and flys. |
AC-130U "Spooky" Gunship. They're wicked to ride on when they are firing their guns. :D
|
Fake: Airwolf
Real: AH-64 Apache |
I've always thought the A-10 looks pretty damn cool myself. 40 years old, and it still makes the kids run into the backyard to catch a gander at them when they're taking off from Dover AFB.
|
if i don't have a favorite, does that make me gay?

Watching those guns in action makes me glad they're on our side. That is just a terrifying weapon... |

Yeah, I got see some cool footage of them in live action and not just a training exercise. It was some pretty gruesome, but cool at the same time. The first time I rode on during a "live fire," I had to actually use one of those baggies. The damn thing literally goes sideways when it fires. I was so green after I got off it that I swore that I wouldn't ride on one again during a "live fire." Few months laters, I was back on one again. :D |
I've always been partial to the Corsair.
|
Modern.........F-15, Historical.........Submarine Spitfire or P-51 Mustang.
|
Since I work in a B-52 squadron I'm supposed to say B-52.
:D (I'm just a comm geek, I don't get to fly on the things...not normally anyway.) |

I like the B-52. I feel it represents America's strength. |

But it doesn't blow anything up! |
I've always been a fan of the B-17. Some of the pictures of them coming back to base with big chunks of aircraft missing are just incredible.
|
hate them all.
|
The Hypersoar or X-29
|
There's been a ton of variations, but I've always been privvy to the F-111 before it got phased out by the F-16s.

Me too. :) |
Wow having worked on a lot of the US Army helicopters i will have to go with the AH-64 Apache. I do get a bit nostalgic when i see a Huey though.

Why? |

Are you comm/nav, Dutch? |
You bred ............Raptors?
|
I'm partial to the comanche attack helicopte (mainly due to jungle strike for sega).
Loved the way it looks, too bad the project was canned. |
![]() Oh yeah baby, can't beat the classics..... |
Chinooks, they fly over my house almost daily.

Comm-Computers...15 years and counting. |
I know the Spitfire is the one that got all the credit, but the older, stubby little Hawker Hurricane is the one I like. Not as quick and agile as a spitfire, but harder. Without them the Battle of Britain wouldn't have been won.
Harrier Jumpjets were pretty cool too. |
Sukhoi- 30 ... :D
|
F/A-18E Super Hornet.
|
Current = C-130 and C-141, they are the only aircraft I have jumped out of and everything worked fine, whew!
Historical = Zero's, the story behind them is just too cool Fake = X-wing |
For me historical would have to be the P38 Lightning.
|
Current: AH-64.
Historical: P-38, just for the sheer coolness of a two-prop fighter. And gotta give special props for the good old Fokker Eindeker. I still find WW1 to be by far the most interesting period for air combat. |

Word. Starting out throwing rocks at each other, and culminating with air to air combat experts on both times. |
F-22
|

I was comm/nav during my stint. |
and who could forget the Sopwith Camel!
|
Quote:
Yeah, the SR-71 was pretty badass. As far as Helicopters go, I've always liked the Cobra gunship. |
Fell in love with the Cessna OA-37B 'Dragonfly' upon first sight. Would love to own one.. Maybe some day. Very underestimated aircraft.
|
Gotta be the "Starship" F-15. Was always partial to the Air Force growing up.

Hey I once read a tale, posted on a message board by a purported former B-52 pilot, He indicated that it was not an uncommon occurence during Vietnam for a B-52 pilot to find his feet on the instrument panel to gain leverage pulling back the Yoke. The personal example he gave was while avoiding a Surface to Air Missle, he said when one was inbound and capable of hitting you, the avoidance procedure was to dive into it. The resulting "pulling up" was a rather traumatic experience for both the pilot(feet on the console, and such) as well as the plane. In any case, one of the posters on the board called "BS" on him, and I have ever since wondered if such a scenario was possible/likely. |
Runner's up - A-10, P-61, P-38, ME-109 |
Im also partial to the P-51 MUSTANG, Also known as ''THE CADILLAC'' of the skies.
|
At the Chicago Air Show this summer, one of the coolest parts was when they had a P-51 flying alongside an F-15. Two distinct generations of U.S. Air Superiority fighters...
|
Quote:
Ahh, the Luftwaffe. The Washington Generals of the History Channel. |
So many to choose from. I think I'd have to go with the P-51.
|

Stuka! I was always intrigued by the gull-winged WW2 planes like the Stuka and the Corsair. |
Question: Was the stuka only a dive bomber or was it also used in Air-air combat?
|
I was always partial to the P-61 as well as the B-25 Mitchell (the gunship-modified version).

Most planes would tear it up in air-to-air combat. |
