Quick X-Com question...
 

So I have been trying to get my hands on X-Com UFO Defense of the PC for a long time now and have been unable to get my hands on it.

Yesterday I was in Blockbuster looking to pick up a pre-played game and just happened to stroll over the the PS1 section and there it was, X-Com UFO Defense, so I picked up it and a PS1 memory card for less than 5 bucks. I've been playing it for several hours now and have 2 bases. My first base is in the Alps in Europe, and my second is somewhere around South Dakota. I plan to expand to a base along the Russia/China border and a 4th around South Africa.

Now comes my problem. I can't keep my soldiers alive. I need to get some body armor, but can't figure out what exactly I need to research to be able to get some. Also, my ships can't take down anything except small UFO's and I've already had 3 interceptors shot out of the sky. What do I need to research to allow for better ships and better weapons on them?

its been ages, so i could be wrong, but i think you need to find alien technology and then research that to get the improved weapons and armor.

Just Alien Alloys for Personal Armor.

I would advise going as quickly as you can for Heavy Plasmas after that.

UFO Strategy Guide


It takes quite a bit of research before you can start knocking the bigger UFOs out of the sky. Offhand I don't remember the exact route, but it can be a few months or more before you're capable of doing that. Better strategy early on is to pounce on the bigs ones when they land.
