FOF License Question

Alright...so I just had to reformat my computer. Last time I did this with FOF, I saved the receipt.txt file so I had a copy of my license key and all that, and used that to reinstall the game (I know you are supposed to unlicense and all that, but I found that out after the fact) Anyways, when I reformatted this time, I forgot to save that file. So right now, I have no copy of my old license. I wasn't the one that originally purchased the game, a buddy from another league did and we went into together and each got a license. Is there any way that I can get a copy of my license back or am I pretty much SOL (unless I buy another license)?

FBPro 11-21-2005 03:19 AM

I ain't touching this one. But you need to be a man and buy the game yourself!!!!!!!!!

sovereignstar 11-21-2005 09:07 AM

Holy hole in a donut, Batman, it's a cheapass!

Okay, I think I understand so far...

Here's the part I don't quite understand. What makes you think there is any such thing as your license? Sounds to me like you paid your friend a few bucks so you could pirate off his license. I don't think you own anything.

Just buy the game.

Is this a violation of the EULA?

So, a license that allows us the convenience of playing on 2 of our own computers has been interpreted as a license for 2 people to install on their own computers? It is this kind of crap that will get licenses restricted to 1 PC, which is a very bad idea. The price is well worth the years of enjoyment you can get out of the game. Just buy 1 for yourself.

Ben E Lou 11-21-2005 10:01 AM

Suspended for a month. This is a little different, since he wasn't actually asking for a license, but this is a clear violation of the agreement.

QuikSand 11-21-2005 10:14 AM

As if the FastFL had any eyes left to be blackened...

Passacaglia 11-21-2005 10:16 AM

Caught somebody cheat at FastFL.

Bee 11-21-2005 10:46 AM

It may be worth joining the FFL just for the UIC factor...

FOFC note: Hey guys. First off, thanks to SkyDog for posting this, I greatly appreciate it. I am not going to sit here and try and beg you guys to forgive it and blah, blah, blah. I never blatantly "cheating", unlike the rep my league has been getting lately. I unknowingly made an agreement with a friend when I got the game over a year ago and I am paying the price for that now.

I honestly never knew about the EULA, but I refuse to play the ignorant card. I probably won't be around anymore, but I am sure not too many of you will miss me much. Thanks for the good times and I hope you all enjoy the rest of your lives.

I'm trying to conceive of how this might be true.

Hmmm... uh, nope....

Oh, maybe....uhhh.... nope...

Nope, sorry... just can't do it.

sovereignstar 11-21-2005 12:37 PM

I unknowingly made a deal with the devil once. That dude is a total prick.

Raiders Army 11-21-2005 12:43 PM

Goblet of Fire rocked his face off???

Tekneek 11-21-2005 01:40 PM

Hmmm. The proper response would have been, "I'm sorry I was trying to screw Jim out of some money and will buy a full license now."

Hurst2112 11-21-2005 01:45 PM

you guys are brutal.

Antmeister 11-21-2005 01:45 PM

Oh my goodness, I can't believe what happened to that league in a matter of months. I feel bad for WrongWay and the gang, who simply wanted to play a complete season.

This sums it up -- the games I like lend themselves to electronic distruibution. I like that medium, but frequently want to install more than one place, just for my personal use. Currently e-licensers let me do so. More evidence of crap like this, and it increases the likelihood that people like me will eventually have to either settle for one installation, or else purchase multiple licenses.

I didn't say he was right, or everybody was wrong. I just thought that there were some brutal comments and chastising.

Hurst2112 11-21-2005 02:18 PM

dola:

What about the other guy that gave him the license? Is he a member here?

LOL, the FastFL has about as many people thinking it should be shut down, as Rocky 6 has fans wanting Sylvester Stallone not to make the picture. Or, something like that.

The Good news is I think there is no way I can possibly be blamed for this one. :)

Eaglesfan27 11-21-2005 08:43 PM

Wow. Just wow.

Hurst2112 11-21-2005 08:51 PM

i remember the old days. the excuses were pretty lame. pretty blatant. i give the guy credit for creating his excuse.

FOF License Question II

FOF License Question II

So, what do you, or anyone else, do if you spot someone selling their "Spare" license like on ebay or somewhere else?

Would this be illegal?

I have seen the old Disc's on ebay, but never a digital license.

Report it to Solecismic so they can contact Ebay and get the auction pulled?

digamma 11-21-2005 09:10 PM

And, it's definitely in violation of your license agreement to sell your "spare" license.

i would have to assume that you can sell a digital download game with all licenses on ebay. however, there isn't a way to stop people emailing each other and working a deal out.

i haven't seen any fof games on ebay for some time.

vtbub 11-21-2005 09:55 PM

You can't make this crap up. LOL

Solecismic 11-21-2005 10:33 PM

I think the worst was some clown who, back in the days when I was mailing everything out, claimed he didn't receive his copy. This was before I had delivery confirmation on every sale, so I had no choice but to send him another.

A few months later, the original was on eBay. The guy was stupid enough to include a picture of his receipt with his name on it. So in the next patch, I disabled his registration code.

Was doing a search for something else, and ran across this. Cracked me up again.
