Snowing its Ass off(bumped)

Yep....first "Real" snowfall of this season, was actually sticking for a minute. 500 dollar heating bills, here we come :(

Schmidty 11-22-2005 09:26 PM

I miss real snow instead of this freezing rain crap that penetrates every part of your body.

Eaglesfan27 11-22-2005 10:55 PM

I miss snow :(

(although we did get a bit of snow that didn't stick last Christmas.)

Live in Cleveland for a winter and I bet you'll never say "I miss snow" again

FrogMan 11-23-2005 09:47 AM

we had a good 4-5 inches fall over the evening yesterday, looked lovely, until the city snowplow dude came and left us with about a foot and a half in front of the driveway at about ten minutes to 11 pm last night, just as I was ready to go to bed... Decided to start up the snowblower and clean it up then and was glad this morning that I did it last night. It was kind of wet last night, but temperature dropped greatly over night and I can tell you that that dang foot and a half would have been a major pain in the behind to showel once frozen thick...

Oh well, here we go for another 4 months of white crap...

OK, all I saw were snow flurries. stevew, I know you're somewhere near Pittsburgh, but I don't know how far away or in which direction you are. I was in Pittsburgh at work all day yesterday, and I only saw flurries. Then I drove to Greensburg and got a little snow there, but it wasn't sticking.

So where the hell are you? :)

About 50 minutes from Pittsburgh off of 79. In Amish country.(Village of Volant). If you ever go to the Grove City Outlets(right off of 79), you'd be right in the vacinity of where i live(and work).

stevew 11-23-2005 10:29 AM

That'd be North West of pittsburgh

rkmsuf 11-23-2005 10:29 AM

I hear the Amish ladies give great helmet.

Ah, gotcha. Quite a bit northwest of me, then. I gather that some of that snow will start settling near me in the foothills any day now. This Louisiana boy is going to freak out. :)

Some Pumpy pics in the snow would be pretty funny ;)

Some idiot better not be running his snow blower at midnight in my neck of the woods.

Your neighbors must love you. :D

yeah, riiiiiiight... Me at 11pm, or the neighbors' contracted guy who comes at 4:30am, which is worse? Or even me at 5:30am (or before I go take a shower) instead of 11pm with the snowblower...

Live in a country of snow and you learn to deal with this stuff....

Pumpy Tudors 11-23-2005 03:00 PM

Haha! I have found Shorty's one- or two-sentence post for the day! Today is a good day! I hope I can find tomorrow's!!

SnDvls 11-23-2005 03:29 PM

you know the first time I saw this post I thought it said "Showing it's ass off". I oh course clicked to see who was showing their ass, only to see a thread about snow, glad I don't have that here in AZ.

Raiders Army 11-23-2005 04:10 PM

Snow would be nice.

sterlingice 11-23-2005 04:18 PM

Who is the "it" of which the ass is snowing off of?

It is??? Looks more like ice or sleet in west FTW.

JeeberD 12-07-2005 11:51 AM

Yup, real snow here. It's tiny little flakes, but it's snow.

Of course I look out my window now and it's stopped. Hopefully there will be more to come this afternoon.

Ksyrup 12-07-2005 12:54 PM

I'll be in Dallas in about 3 weeks. Hope it snows then.

gottimd 12-07-2005 12:56 PM

I think it would be better if snow just came down in one big clump and made a loud noise when it nailed the ground, instead of coming down in all of those sissy little flakes.

oliegirl 12-07-2005 01:11 PM

There is a chance we'll have some "winter precipitation" here tomorrow or Friday...although I am not excited at the prospect of a snow day to be made up later in the year, the thought of playing out in the snow with the kid and dog is kind of cool :)

sterlingice 12-07-2005 01:36 PM

KC and surrounding environs is getting quite a bit of snow. 4-8 inches expected. Better than the usual ice storm. But it's been really cold here for December. Usually we don't get the bitter cold until January but it's not going to get out of the 20s at all until maybe Friday. That's really rare here in December.

SI

kcchief19 12-07-2005 02:34 PM

Yeah, this is a brutal winterstorm this early for Kansas City. They've upped to us to forecasts for 6-8 inches. That means my 35-minute drive home will take 2 1/2 hours this afternoon. Add the single-degrees temperatures and we're golden. We usually don't get this kind of weather until January.

Agreed, 100%!

GoldenEagle 12-07-2005 04:45 PM

It might snow here tonight. The critical thing is the tempature. It is only going to get as low as 35. However, I think it will get lower than that.

cougarfreak 12-07-2005 04:56 PM

Us in the Ohio Valley are supposed to get hit pretty hard starting mid-afternoon tomorrow.

JeeberD 12-07-2005 05:26 PM

I got the windows on my car scraped and was sitting at the stoplight just outside my apartment complex when my manager called and said not to bother coming in tonight, that they were most likely closing early tonight and didn't need me to come in... :)

Down into the low twenties now and the roads are starting to glaze over. I'm glad that I'm not going to have to drive home at 10pm when it's even worse.

JeeberD 12-07-2005 05:43 PM

Dola-

Of course, it's now taken over an hour for my fiancee' to get home from work and it usually takes her around 20 minutes. I'm sure she's fine, but I'm starting to get worried. She's not the greatest of drivers even under ideal circumstances...

JeeberD 12-07-2005 05:56 PM

Double dola-

OK, she's home, I can relax again.

sterlingice 12-07-2005 06:13 PM

That's just now snow is, I've come to learn. Take it slow and you'll usually be ok. Ice is another matter altogether.

Snow? Never seen the stuff. Not here anyway. What I have seen for the past couple days is ice... right outside our apt. complex which really tripped me out. It was in the high 20's the other day... BRRR...

Jeebs, I can understand how you can get worried. I live in the land of snow and we have snow tires, real good ic & snow tires and I always get worried when my wife is out there in a snowstorm. Yeah, for us we need a snowstorm to get worried, not some silly snowfall :p but I can still sympathise

Seriously, we're not getting any snow at the moment but it is unseasonably cold, about 10F right now, -8F with the wind. These are more like January temparatures, even for us...

I think canada sneezed on us folks in oklahoma. They said this is one of the coldest air masses we have had in the last 10 years

Sorry about that, I'll try to fart a big one, tell me if it warms up the air a bit :D

I would actually rather drive in the snow than in the rain. At least in the snow, the other cars behave as though conditions have changed.

Ice sucks but can be ok so long as you know it's there. I hit snow on top of ice last year on the Ohio turnpike and damn near hit 2 cars before I was able to get control of my car.

The problem yesterday was that the roads were icy, not snowy. I wouldn't have been as worried if it had just been snow...

stevew 12-08-2005 11:29 AM

Its so fuckin cold today. And the heat in my car is not cooperating.

not to make you worried even more for next time but snow or ice if my wife were driving a car with summer tires (or even all seasons), I'd be worried sick with her out there... We got caught by surprise in early November and she went to work (a 50 miles commute through rural routes) with only all season tires and she stopped midway after giving herself a few good scares. No need to tell you that the winter tires were put on the car the very next day...

Exactly! And to make things worse, her tread is a little worn as it is and could use new tires to begin with...

very similar to my wife's Matrix front tires in the all-season. Let me tell you I learned a lesson that night and will always strive to make the change sooner rather than later ;)

If I had a a house or somewhere in my apartment to keep them, i would invest in some snow tires. But im driving on a set of all weathers that i bought last july....they still look close to new.
