How are you cooking your turkey?
I am cooking mine upside down. No stuffing inside, and injecting it with two sticks of melted butter.

takes like 15-20 mins and your done. very tender. taste great |
18-pounder (stuffed only with carrots and onions) in a cooking bag with a full bottle of white wine and some veggies for flavor. Will only take 3 hours plus cooling time. The dressing has been cooking in a crock pot. All we got left are the Yukon Gold potatoes, green beans and crescent rolls.

I am learning how to Deep Fry this year. I practiced last week on a 9 lb chicken and it was great.
The injection for the turkey will be mild spice and Creole Butter. Be safe if you are deep frying, please. It doesn't take much to turn your holiday season into a nightmare if you don't take precautions and follow the directions. If you make a salt only brine, it won't change the taste. Brining is a process that uses salt water to force more liquid into whatever you are brining. Works great on poultry. You can add flavor enhancers, but it isnt nessecary. From what I have read, once you brine a turkey, you will not want one any other way.
Some turkeys these days come presoaked in a salt solution. You cannot brine those, since they already have. That would make the bird too salty. |
I baked mine, but I would like to try deep frying one. I hear they are super moist.

My brother and I got deserted for the holidays, so we met up at our parents house to go out to eat. When we got to Golden Corrall, the line was fuckin huge, I already have buffet cleanliness issues(People dont wash their damn hands!). So we got some food at wal mart, and i cooked Ham and a giant stuffed Chicken with the fixings. Was better than GC, about the same price, and there was no chance of EColi, cause Jim Bob doesnt wash his hands after he shits. All and all a pretty good day. Then i stole his copy of Civ4, so it became even better(he has t and l issues).

The injected turkey I cooked upside down had really moist white meat. Was pretty good. I think next time, I will add some spices to that..

i saw on tv, someone stuff a duck into a chicken and stuff that into a turkey and bake it all.
so you had a duck into a chicken into a turkey. |

Turducken is damn good stuff.
The fiancee' put olive oil on the turkey, put it into a paper shopping bag, and then roasted the sucker. Came out tender as hell...I didn't carve the sucker as much I just pulled the meat off the bones. |
I would never put my turkey in a paper bag. You don't know what kind of chemicals they use on that bag during processing. Your better off getting an aluminum foil bag.
