I think Im....

starting to see through Sean Salisbury. I think Im starting to realize his opinions are rehashes of other people's. He jumps on the bandwagon's as theyre leaving the shed and then acts like he is the driver. I dont know. Anyone else have an opnion on him?

rkmsuf 12-06-2005 02:15 PM

he's dogpoop

I'm in full agreement.

blowhard jock and a bully ... not nearly as bright as Phil Simms, Steve Young, or some other ex-qbs on the tube ... the kind of guy in real life that I *might* get along with, but would probably prefer not to, since he'd steal your girlfriend if he got the chance, and then act all surprised when you got upset.

Anthony 12-06-2005 02:19 PM

he just seems very fake to me. especially when he would get into those fake arguement with John Clayton on ESPN.

I have listened to Sean since he was on XTRA 690 in San Diego on the morning show. He has proven that he can be a hot head a lot of the times and when he has an opinion on someone, he tends to stick with that opinion regardless if anyone proves otherwise.

With that said, I think he bases his opinions on what he hears and reads, just like anybody else and I guess I may have a different opinion on him since I have seen him grow as a broadcaster. Sean Salisbury, Jeanie Zelasko and Jim Rome are guys that started out on that local radio station. Radio tends to let you see more of their personality than TV allows, so I at least know where he is coming from.

The act he puts on with Clayton is no different than that of Greenberg and Golic. It's just for entertainment purposes. He takes outrageous positions opposite Clayton simply for the PTI effect of it all.

Really, people. Stop looking at ESPN personalities as sports journalists, and more like the entertainers they are, and it'll probably be easier to stomach.*

Greeny and Golic are far more likeable.

Ksyrup 12-06-2005 02:41 PM

But it's still a schtick. And they're more likeable because their schtick is Abbott and Costello, not trading mean-spirited barbs.

Too bad they insist on trying to make their show into a 'wacky morning zoo' show with a sports theme. Let the comedy bits go......

st.cronin 12-06-2005 02:46 PM

The only guy on espn radio I can listen to for more than about 4 minutes is Rome. Even his show is a shadow of what it used to be...

Kodos 12-06-2005 02:47 PM

I hate Sean Salisbury. He's a jerk and a know-nothing.

Yeah but there is a place for that. I kind of like the balance because they have on their fair share of Mortensens and Claytons to provide the hard news.

See, I like the Herd to where he talks about all kinds of stuff.

Rome's show isn't on ESPN Radio, is it? They don't play it on ESPN out here, at least...

The Herd, or previously Kornheiser, type of show I do like with the general topics chat that can happen. But Mike and Mike is not that, they are up to about 50% of comedy bits/song parodies combined with rehashing the same stories in hours 3-4 that they did in hours 1-2. Thats why I usually only listen to half a show now.

Nope, FOX Sports Radio usually. But it is syndicated so it can pop up on indy stations too.

that's true. I do notice Mike and Mike leading many segments with the same story/line of thinking.

I got his show on espn radio in Madison, Wisconsin, and I get it here from an Albuquerque station which I *think* is an espn affiliate. They also have Dan Patrick.

Ksyrup 12-06-2005 03:03 PM

Mike & Mike is a typical morning drive-type show themed on sports. That's why they do the bits.

I have come to really like The Herd. I think the guy is really funny, and usually on target with his comments (although sometimes he goes overboard, as most talk guys do). Even my wife liked him when we took a trip and listened to him - he was talking about the difference between people who think Dirty Dancing is a life-defining moment and people who think it is one of the worst movies ever. I like him better than Dan Patrick. He's just looser, more fun, easier to get off subject. It's like the difference between your regular, ultra-formal teacher and the cool substitute teacher.

Ksyrup 12-06-2005 03:04 PM

EDIT - Now that I thinnk about it, Rome's show is on the local Fox-affiliated station in Tallahassee. We have a mixed "sports radio" station here - half national politics (Glen Beck and Limbaugh)/half local sports/variety (two locals with their own shows), with Rome on tape delay at 8pm and the freakshow Coast to Coast overnight.

I heard that show. That was a good segment.

stevew 12-06-2005 03:12 PM

I like ron Jaworski however.

Raiders Army 12-06-2005 05:39 PM

The only good thing Salisbury is good for is the sauce with steak.

Flasch186 12-06-2005 08:53 PM

what happened to Dibs? I definitely think the Dan show has lost a little of that something since "Ron" is gone. What happened?

I know he moved to the Best Damn show. Maybe one of those famous ESPN contract issues.

I must just really catch them at their best time (about 745a-830a, Eastern) because I don't get much of that stuff from them at all. Maybe two comedy bits over 5 days time & even those are not more than a minute or so long & always sports parody type stuff.

Either that, or watching the radio show on TV I'm missing some of the stuff you're talking about. (I usually catch maybe 15 mins in the car taking Will to school & then watch for 10-20 mins while I eat a couple of Hardee's biscuits -- hence the radio + TV viewing deal).
