Wearing Watches
 

So for Chanukkah my brother got me this knockoff watch...something about if you walk it winds it. anyways, it has this big face cand it looks nice, real nice BUT Ive never worn any type of jewelry in my whole life. Im trying to wear this thing today and its annoying as hell. Big, cold, sometimes it clinks on the back of my wrist....I just dont like it. SO, do most of you wear watches of some kind? I have a cell phone so the time is on there but other tha for looks and to tell time, why wear it? I dont know if I can continue to wear this.

Yeah I haven't worn a watch since jr high. And now with cell phones, I don't see myself wearing one in the future either.

Sound like it's a kinetic watch. Your everyday movements charge it. Who does this watch knock off? I picked up some Tag Heuer his and hers for $75 in Saudi in 1999. Jeweler couldn't tell the difference. The real ones were $950 each.

They're usually useful for telling time, so yes.

I wear a watch every day. It is a nice Tissot I bought while touring Europe last year. It is more easily accessible than a phone or pager, and now that I am accustomed to looking at a watch rather than a phone, I prefer it this way. Now I hate being without the watch.

Panerai is what it says on it...also Luminor Tantalium....I dont think Ill wear it again unless to a dressy occasion.

I didn't start wearing watches until my mid-20s. It was tough getting used to at first, but I soon couldn't go without one. I only wear one to tell the time, not as a fashion accessory. You're right about the cell phone. It can replace a watch for a lot of people.

I started wearing a watch in college - which was before the explosion of popularity in cell phones. If you wanted to tell time while away from a room you wore a watch.

After a month, you don't even notice its there. After 15 years, you feel naked without it.

Haven't worn a watch for a while. Since I dropped the one I had down the toilet at work one day. Never got around to replacing it.

I have a clock on my cell phone and on my iPod, both of which go with me nearly everywhere. But I feel naked if I forget to put my watch on in the morning.

I wore them for around 10 years and felt off whenever I didn't. Now I feel like you when I put one on. It'll just take some getting used to.

First thing I do when I walk in the door from being out anywhere is watch & ring come off, wallet leaves my pocket.

I wear my watch only when I'm "on the move" meaning not either at home or at work. At work, it bothers me since I'm at the keyboard all day and at home, well, I don't know why :) PC supplies time of day at work and there's always a clock nearby at home...

I don't wear a watch, I sit in front of a PC all day, drive a car with a clock and have various clocks (stove, VCR, microwave, alarms, PC) at home. In the last 12-18 months I have received as gifts: a knock-off Rolex from Kuwait, a Citizen and some other Swiss watch. I don't know why people keep giving me these; I wind them up and by them time I get the band where I want it, I have to wind it again. I'm just not interested in wearing one and I can't get away from them. Have I reached a time in life where will only receive ties and watches as gifts?

No need for a watch in this day and age. The time is on everything, and at worst on the cell phone that is in my pocket.

I wear one when I have a battery in it, but the battery is always out so I never wear it...

I've proven to be too lazy to be a responsible watch wearer. When I get a watch, I'm too lazy to take it off at night, so I sleep with it on and eventually either (1) break it while sleeping or (2) it gets so rank that I can't wear it anymore.

(#1 above might have to do with the fact that my upper limit on spending money on a watch is about $4.99.)

I've been wearing a watch since high school and definitely feel weird if I leave the house without it. I also find that I use it as a nervous twitch of sorts...if I'm uncomfortable or nervous about something I usually will reach over to adjust it on my wrist and look at it repeatedly. Odd, I know.

I think that accounts for number two above as well.

I never take my watch off. Sleep, shower, swimming. It just doesn't matter. Mine finally died about three months ago...had it cleaned about a year ago, and it never really worked well after that. I'll be getting it replaced this Christmas. Nothing too special, a Bulova < $500.
