Concern while Posting Dynasty Thread..

Those of you familiar with Dynasty Postings should know what I'm talking about.

Remember this..

"To make columns appear clearly add (pre)(font) face=courier) at the beginning and (/pre)(/font) at the end.

Note: I have used () as well as [] at the new FOFC. Neither has worked..

On the old FOFC Board this would work maginificently with everything lining up neatly and properly.

But... here at New FOFC, I'm having some issues with this. Basically when using this, you get huge amounts of blank space between each individual line.

Scroll down through this thread and check out the Team Roster and then the Boxscores from individual games. See how much space it is using in comparison to the rest of the writeup? Strange.. I've tinkered with this quite a bit and can't figure out how to fix this.

Anyone with more knowledge than me regarding this who could figure this issue out, I would appreciate the heck out of you.

Thanks!!

Qwikshot 01-25-2003 10:14 AM

Yeah, I had the same problem with my dynasty...

MylesKnight 01-25-2003 10:25 AM

Quikshot, if you want to say for instance allign the League Standings up nice and pretty on your thread, do this..

At the very beginning of the standings add one of these..

(pre)(font face=gothic) Note: You can use any font you wish, I just chose Gothic for mine.

..And following the last of the Standings, add this..

(/pre)(/font)

Note: Replace () Brackets with <> these and it will work.

If you're copying and pasting from a .txt file, use the {code} and {/code} tags (change {} to [ ])....everything should line up then.

MylesKnight 01-25-2003 11:21 AM

That was it.. [color=dark-blue]THANKS SIMMS!!![/color]

is it possible you could give us a rundown on the code changes? or is there some sort of brief guide you could post or give us a link to?

MylesKnight 01-25-2003 11:53 AM

Well, using (code) & (/code) replace ()'s with []'s makes all of the .txt files, etc., line up nice & neat as was the case with the (pre)(/pre) action.. replace ()'s with <>'s.. on the former FOFC Boards..

As for the rest of the vB Codes, here's the link ... It is also available by clicking the HELP button next to vB Code that is listed when you are creating any post.

Qwikshot 01-25-2003 11:58 AM

Thanks

Please reiterate more precisely, someone. I used the "code", "/code" and, yes it lined-up, but it indented like a quote. What did I add or not add that I should have to make it look like it used to w/out the spaces in between.

Thanks

sabotai 01-28-2003 12:36 AM

mrushh

Instead of code and /code, type this.

<pre><font face="courier">
block of text you want to appear
</font></pre>

mrushh 01-28-2003 11:41 AM

sabotai,

That is what I was using, but it kept skipping lines between each entry so as to take up twice as much room as needed.
However, I used "size=2". Could that be the culprit? Thanks for responding.

This mess was created using the codes:
{pre}{font face="courier" size=2}
and
{/font}{/pre}
except that < and > took the place of { and }.

That would have worked fine on the old board.

The above was created using the codes

and
{/font}{/code}
except that < and > replaced { and }

You'll see there are no longer lines between the lines, but the spacing is wrong (though in a different way).

What else do I need to do, chaps?

This was created using exactly the same code as the one immediately above, except that 'size=2' was removed from the first code.

You'll see it makes no difference at all (at least, not on my screen).

So that can't be the answer

Roberto 01-28-2003 05:19 PM

Sorry - tried something else but it failed again :(

Kodos 01-28-2003 05:43 PM

Maybe we need the default text option when you are typing up a note to be couriers, because all letters are the same width, which makes lining up tables easier. With other fonts, you end up trying to line things up, only to find out that they don't line up when put in a table.

See how nice this is. That's because the letters are
all the same width, and each letter lines up with the one above it.

This one, on the other hand, does not have all letters the same width,
as you can see by having two lines of text next to eachother.

Well, that worked in a way but it's disappointing in another.

FIRST it prints much wider than I wanted.
SECOND it's a table that's been printed to file. My failures above were manually created documents.
And THIRD the word "code" appears in a silly place.

So we have a code that sort of works for tables printed to file, but not for manually created tables.

Oh - the code. Right. It's a bit complex to translate.

First line

{code}@font face="courier" size=1%

Last line

{/font}@/code%

Replace { and } with [ and ] and replace @ and % with < and >.

Does anyone have a better way, especially for manually created documents? Please? Pretty please?

MylesKnight 01-29-2003 11:08 PM

That's pretty much what I ended up with as well Roberto. It looks like the best we may be able to do with this particular board.

Overall, it's not bad, except for the word "Code" up top..

Roberto 02-01-2003 04:11 PM

Some experiments. Bear with me.

The College Years
Roster, Scout Overview

Code:

Player                #    Pos  Elig  Current Estimate  Future Estimate
Young, Vernon          9    QB  Sr    7                7

List printed to file, opened in wordpad and saved as word document. Looks fine. This was the code:

First line

{code}@font face="courier" size=1%

Last line

{/font}@/code%

Replace { and } with [ and ] and replace @ and % with < and >.

But it's too darn wide. Try editing the headings (same code)

The College Years
Roster, Scout Overview

Code:

Player                #    Pos  Elig  Current Future
Young, Vernon          9    QB  Sr    7      7

Carman, Marty          48  RB*  Sr*  6      15

That looks good - the content is narrower, though the lines top and bottom are still full width.

Now lets edit the information - add some fake improvement date (manually). Again, same code.

The College Years
Roster, Scout Overview

Code:

Player                #    Pos  Elig  Current Future
Young, Vernon          9    QB  Sr    7  +0  7

Carman, Marty          48  RB*  Sr*  6      15

That works too.

Now, does anyone know how to remove those soppy lines at top and bottom?

Roberto 02-01-2003 04:26 PM

Following from the message above - does it make a difference to the width of the top and bottom lines if the message only contains the narrower version of the table?

Codes as before.

Code:

Well, up to a point. It's still too wide, but not as wide.

Roberto 02-04-2003 04:15 PM

There may be a further partial solution.

Code:

Roster Strength 2010
                Starters                Reserves

QB                43 (was 46)        54 (was 51)
RB                54 (was 62)        55 (was 35)
FB                35 (was 40)        36 (was 35)
TE                34 (was 25)        51 (was 61)
WR                9 (was 25)        17 (was 43)
C                46 (was 38)        77 (was 45)
G                20 (was 13)        20 (was 20)
T                37 (was 23)        43 (was 21)
P                53 (was 43)        36 (was 23)
K                46 (was 37)        43 (was 19)
DE                15 (was 24)        28 (was 22)
DT                34 (was 38)            41 (was 41)
ILB                12 (was 11)        27 (was 15)
OLB                10 (was 0)        37 (was 27)
CB                27 (was 20)        23 (was 17)
S                47 (was 47)        62 (was 61)

The above was a manually created document but using tabs, not the space bar EXCEPT for the DT

Code as before

First line

{code}@font face="courier" size=1%

Last line

{/font}@/code%

Replace { and } with [ and ] and replace @ and % with < and >.

Now, try the same code on a similar list which was manually created using the space bar (and lined up, as best I could, in this box)

Code:

.              Starters              Reserves

QB          42 (was 44)          40 (was 51)
RB          43 (was 30)          44 (was 37)
FB          35 (was 27)          38 (was 31)
TE          44 (was 41)          44 (was 67)
WR          59 (was 30)          54 (was 45)
C          32 (was 32)          41 (was 68)
G          18 (was 56)          16 (was 33)
T          43 (was 22)          75 (was 45)
P          43 (was 40)          29 (was 35)
K          41 (was 37)          46 (was 31)
DE          38 (was 34)          45 (was 67)
DT          29 (was 37)          25 (was 34)
ILB        37 (was 29)          21 (was 14)
OLB        40 (was 36)          43 (was 33)
CB          37 (was 32)          33 (was 34)
S          40 (was 31)          30 (was 21)

Oh - I didn't expect that to work, but it did!!!

Let's try it again on another manually created list which was created using the space bar

Code:

Team Performance:          3/100
Academic Performance      82/100
Recruiting Performance    100/100
TV Revenue                      74/100
Alumni Donations              1/100
Attendance at Stadium    63/100

Overall                              42/100

er ... back to the drawing board
