Poker - Depositing/ Cashing Out Questions

I'm just wondering how the other Americans on here deposit into an online poker account. I mean isn't it illegal to do so in the US? Or is it just running it that's illegal?

Also has anybody tried using a visa giftcard to deposit on pokerstars? how does that work?

Sorry, but I'm a novice at this.

I've played some realmoney....won some money in a freeroll. Then I actually won the first money tournament I ever played. But I've never deposited. There seems to be alot of semi-serious players on here...so I think this is a good place to come with these questions.

99% of players use Neteller which is like Paypal, but a Canadian bank. Most CC will not let you directly desposit at any known gambling site although this may have changed. Just get a Neteller account and hook it upto your checking acct. or a new acct. you open just for poker. Once you move some funds from your bank to Neteller (1-2days) you can be in the games in no time. Let me know what limits and games you like and I can tell you tell best site to play and give you a bonus code.

I've tried to sign up with NETELLER but they refuse to take the last 4 digits of my SS Number.

Plus I'm 18 (which is a legal age on many sites)...so I'm just a little apprehensive about the rents finding out that I play poker at all. Even though I haven't invested a penny so far. I might be able to sell them on it if i can find a way that doesn't involve me giving any of their bank info. There not against gambling or anything. But I still dunno how they'd feel.

BTW, if I did play I would only play tournaments. I'm not a ring game player. I've tried some of those when I've found ways to get no-deposit bonuses on some sites. And they just don't appeal to me.

I like tourneys because they have a beginning, middle, and end. I love the math involved and the extra strategy. I would only play NL Holdem tournaments also, i know it's stereotypical but that's where all my experience is. I've played other games a little, but I've played NL Holdem probably atleast a thousand times more than any other game.

Whether credit card transactions actually work is a function of your CC bank, not the host site. There are plenty of sites that nominally offer CC transactions, but nearly all banks decline any transfer with a known gambling establishment.

This "option" turns out to not be very useful for most Americans with credit cards, despite it being advertised in many places.

Gotchya...maybe being Canadian has allowed me a couple more liberties in this department!! :)

My MBNA cards have never worked, but for some reason my Shell Credit Card (not sure on the bank at the time of this posting) works. Be warned, it is a bitch if you ever want to get money out that you initially deposited with a credit card.
