Lions should...
1. Bring back Dick Jauron and see what he can do for a full season. Reasons for this are:
a) He was coach of the year in Chicago in 2001. Having spent time there listening to Chicago sport-talk radio, things went south for Jauron when the McCaskey family decided to end nepotism and replaced the family memeber GM with a different one, who just did not like Jauron. b) Really do not want to go thru all the hype-hoopla crap one more time ...bar is high...we're building something good here....put it all to rest with a low-profile turnover just this one time. Please. c) Jauron is highly respected among the players and they will play hard for him. Witness the Pittsburg game. Pittsburg had everything to play for, the Lions nothing, and yet if not for the Lions special teams game could easily have gone for Detroit. This can be fixed alot easier than making whole-sale changes. d) Scouts say Joey Harrington is not the same QB that he was at Oregon because he has been so badly mishandled. Marriucci's 1980s version of the West (Nile) Coast offense was Pop Warner level (John Madden said so!) and a complete misfit for Harrington's downfield talents and strong arm. Let Joey be Joey for a year and see what happens. We don't need any more has-been QBs anymore. Joey will be a star if Detroit can swallow its pride and give him a chance. Let Bill Parcell's be the one to continue to collect the fossilized QBs. |

Although Pittsburgh may be the favorite and all, I would REALLY love to see Cinci and Indy duke it out in the AFC Championship.. don't know if it will happen, but if Palmer is on and the defense gets even a couple stops, Cinci will win.
Problem is, Palmer has yet to be "on" against the Steelers this season.. I call it the "Curse of Polamalu" This game will go a long way in determining the Bengals offseason moves.. Pittsburgh runs over them like in their first meeting, I think they go all out to sign, trade for, or draft a top flight DT. Although Shaun Smith has played well, they need someone else to add to that rotation. I keep thinking, if only they could have gotten Corey Simon.. If only.. |
Starting to like what I hear about Al Saunders. Might be best pick for Lions, he wanted Joey at KC. Disciplinarian, might be good fit all the way around.

Very similar to the Lions in many ways, including an owner Ralph Wilson who used to be a minority owner in the Lions before Ford bought him out. Bills and Lions are tracking almost identical this season in many ways. Buffalo fans demonstrating against both GM and coach, young QB under fire for poor play, blue-collar hard-working snow-belt city someone described as 'the fat-lady of cities' in terms of tourist attractions. Loving comparisons, some things have diverged already. Lions kept GM Millen, Bills fired Donahue and hired old coach Levy as GM. Both will probably get new coaches soon. Very interesting difference in ownership. Wilson came out, apologized to fans for team's poor performance and...unbelievably...apologized for stadium security confiscating fan's signs critical of team. Said 'That is not how the Buffalo Bills do business!" I think the last time Ford talked to the media Walmart carried goods made in America. Neither team has won the Super Bowl yet, but if Vegas was giving odds and I was a betting man the bucks would be on the Bills. And nice as Ford Field is, playing inside is for panzies. So I will be watching the paths of these two teams very closely. |
