Doesn't look that great so far. I was thinking about going again this year, but Roxy Music is the only tickler of my fancy.

Sufjan Stevens and maybe OK GO are the only names that even remotely interest me on that list. And that's only if they played Tallahassee, let alone thousands of miles away.

I see a lot of names there that I would be interested in seeing:

I am exceedingly skeptical that Brian Eno would be performing with Roxy Music - he's repeatedly declined invitations to tour with them, and he's the type of artist that hates looking backwards. I'm also skeptical he would peform at Coachella under any circumstances - he's only recently "toured" as a musician, and only a few dates at very exotic, non-traditionally music oriented venues.

That said, if he really is part of the lineup I'll be there. Besides, there are plenty of acts on that rumored lineup I'd enjoy seeing...

WTF is wrong with you people? Lots of great bands on that list.

Two words. Music snobs.

You don't have to be a snob to not like certain types of music. As a matter of fact, a number of these bands are quite high on the favorite artist lists of many music snobs' critics of choice - they're all "buzz bands" of the past 2-3 years being championed by people who more closely resemble what you accuse some of us of being.

The simple fact is that I never liked any of the alternative pop/punk of the 80s, and quite a few of these bands are influenced by The Smiths/Gang of Four/Joy Division/Pixies, so it stands to reason that I wouldn't like these new bands, either.

Pretty terrific line-up. I've always hoped to get to Coachella someday, shame it won't be this year.

Day 2 looks terrific if for only Sleater-Kinney... those ladies light my fire.

My personal opinion is Atmosphere is the only one worth seeing.

I've only seen a partial lineup listing for Bonnaroo, but would still rather go to that one than this one. Tool is the only band on that list I even remotely like, but I wouldn't really care to see them live. They've always struck me as a studio band rather than live act.

I work in a studio where Slug and Ant have done the Atmosphere stuff.

When I first met him, I didn't know who he was. Didn't really give him the time of day. Same with Ant. Now, it's cool to see them and just shoot the shit about stuff.

I dunno - from what I've seen, they make their live shows quite the spectacle. I'm looking forward to seeing them live, whether it be Coachella or their next tour.

I have never seen them live except from a tape of a show long ago. From what I have heard, there is more energy put into the 'spectacle' than their individual performances. Still, i would like to see for myself sometime.

Yeah, I heard that Maynard sits in the corner, sometimes not even facing the crowd, and just sings from that one position all show, there's no banter with the crowd, etc. Doesn't sound like my cup o' tea.

Personally, I'm not too big into crowd banter, so that shouldn't bother me. The last time the Mars Volta came through, they just played for two hours without once saying anything to the audience until after they were done. I actually thought that was cool.

Crowd banter isn't that big of a deal for me. I have sat through 3 pantera shows in my life. Phil was the worst at talking to the crowd. He went overboard.

I base it on the belief that a band should look like it's having a good time/fun on stage. Tool doesn't seem to do that. Mars Volta DOES put on a good visual show (from what I saw of some concert footage). Aside from seeing Danny Carey drum, I wouldn't think that watching Tool would be better than putting in a Cd and listening.

Yeah -- Anselmo is a jackass. Best interaction with a crowd from my experiences go to Sage Francis and Andrew WK. I saw AWK at three festivals, did massive amounts of stage diving and even saw a dude in a wheelchair stagedive. Amazing.

I think stage presence in general is what I'm referring to, with banter being a part of it. I'm not exactly thrilled with, for example, Rob Halford's cliche metal band "banter" in between songs. But Tool seems to be going for that anti-social, pissed-off attitude look during their shows, which seems boring to me.

BTW, Hurst, what do you think of the rumor that Rick Rubin might produce the next Metallica album? Personally, I think they're done regardless of who produces, but getting rid of their dependence on Bob Rock (and Pro-Tools) should be a step in the right direction.

I hear where you are coming from. I think we are on the same page. I do hate the pissed off, angry at the world vibe bands can display. It's different than a metal band's persona. In metal it's cool. Hehe

Seriously, I think leaving Bob Rock is a great idea. He can take his band member status and 60 inch plasma pro tools monitor and take a hike.

Rubin, eh. I don't know. It will be interesting to hear. I like rick's work, however, everyband is going to him now and his sound is getting spread all over the music scene. He does a great job but there are producers out there who would be able to snag that Metallica magic back. Problem is, I don't think the band wants that magic to reappear.

Rasmussen is the reason they stopped wanting to play complicated thrash. I FUCKING HATE that guy. I think the only thing they should do with Bob Rock is re-record AJFA with TBA's production. AJFA sounds so damn tinny. Actually, the guy who should have produced that album way back when was Terry Date.

We'll see what Rubin can do to resurrect them. If he can succees in not only bringing a good sound back, but actual good songs, then he deserves all the credit he will get.

I am saying that their best years were with Flemming. We both know that that Metallica will never be heard of again. They are too old and have lost direction.

Go have Zeuss produce for them.
