I remember when I was a delegate at the 92 Convention, they had this really amazing video dedicated to all the Presidents since, if I can remember, Nixon. It was really well done, played in prime time. But, they left out Ford. I remember he was there that night, and I was not 20 feet from him, and I remember seeing him keep composed, but he looked very embarrassed. I was embarrassed myself.

President Ford was eaten by wolves today.

He was delicious.

Umm, Hey Dude, you're not funny.

I remember very well the hype of the Dream Ticket in 1980 - Reagan as Pres. and Ford as VP/co-Pres.

Gerald Ford isn't gonna be eaten by wolves.

Taft was.

Really? Taft?

Ouch. But that's pretty cool that you were there. I wish I could go to a convention, I'm not even sure how you go to one, I guessing they just don't let anybody in off the street.

But regardless of if I could even go in, the closest one I was ever near was the 2000 convention in Los Angeles, but security wouldn't let me within 12 city blocks of the place. I can't imagine what their beef was with me?

Lighten up, Francis.

Does this mean we'll all be hit with a barrage of Chevy Chase a la Ford clips on all the network news shows?

Desnudo 01-16-2006 08:39 PM

I didn't realize he was still alive.

The owner of the Texas Rangers at one time was a guy named Eddie Chiles. For some reason, he thought I was a smart kid, and helped push it through from the precinct level, up to National delegate. I was the youngest delegate in the nation that year, and somewhere out there exists video of me saying on national television, "From the Republican National Convention in Houston, GOOD MORNING AMERICA". Ugh.

I am not Republican enough these days, though, it seems. I don't get along with the powers that be.

President Ford restored America's faith in our political system during a very difficult time. History is also giving more credit to his presidency with the passage of time. I admire him for being a true gentleman, even in the face of his detractors.

I hope he can hang in there and get over the pneumonia, but it's not easy at 92. My prayers are with him.

clintl 01-16-2006 09:07 PM

I hope he gets well soon. He has always been a class act, and I wish more of today's political leaders would emulate his style.

JPhillips 01-16-2006 10:25 PM

I said when Reagan died that I thought Ford, Carter and Bush1 would pass away within five years. I wish him the best, but we'll be seeing the last of the WW2 generation leaders passing away soon.

What the Fuck? He pardoned the biggest crook ever to be elected President. He didn't restore faith, he destroyed what little was left after Watergate. Ford was a bumbling asshat.

Ditto.

You are right about historians holding him up as someone who allowed the country to heal. Ford realized that a trial of the President would be murder for the country. Even though people get all pissed that Nixon was pardoned, Ford knew it had to be done if the country was going to move on.

Gerald Ford shot dead today, at the senseless age of 83.

Rockstar 01-17-2006 08:06 AM

pneumonia got Chuck Norris once. It killed pneumonia

rkmsuf 01-17-2006 09:51 AM

Gerald Ford was mauled senselessly by a circus lion in a convenience store."

Same is true for an entire generation. It is truly sad that within 20 or so years they (WWII generation) will be as rare as WW I vets are now.
