Tech Help USB 2.0

I recently got an iPOD and when I connect it to my USB port, I get a message "This device can perform faster if it is connect to a USB 2.0 port. Click for a list of available ports." Okay, that's paraphrased, but you get the idea.

When I click to find a list of available 2.0 ports, I get the message "There are no High-Speed USB Host Controllers installed on this computer."

Anyhoo, I have a pretty new computer that I had built a few months ago and the motherboard includes 6 USB 2.0 ports (all of them are supposedly 2.0 according to my manual that came with the motherboard). I have tried plugging it into all of the ports, and I always get the same message.

So here's the question. Is there something that should have been done to make them function as 2.0? Is there something I can do to correct the problem? Is it possible that they really are 2.0 and I'm just getting an incorrect message? Is there a way to check if they're 2.0 or 1.1?

When I go into device manager, I have two USB controllers. 1 of them appears to be for USB 2.0 and it says that it's working properly.

Check your BIOS to make sure the ports are truly activated. I am no hardware guy, but I don't know if you can switch it back and forth from 1.1 to 2.0, but it doesn't hurt to check.

I remember having to upgrade my 1.1 USB port to a 2.0 USB port with some software that came with my motherboard. But my motherboard is kinda old now...

Yup, check and make sure you have the latest chipset drivers for your motherboard. If it's Intel based, you can get them from Intel, or you should be able to track them down on your motherboard maker's website.

Yep, driver issue.
