Total Pro Basketball Interactive Dynasty

Hi all, long time lurker on the forums and newly created account to start posting.

I would like to start a small-scale interactive dynasty for TPB (something I run at work :P). My idea is to simulate the game 30 years into the future (2036) and then start the dynasty there.

It's the first time I'm attempting something like this and it's going to be relatively simple so that it's not too frustrating for me and/or you. So don't expect nice print-outs, pictures or spreadsheets :)

To that end, this is how I would like to sign people up. I will follow the careers of 10 rookies and those interested should sign-up as follows:

Name:
Position:
School: Either big school/small-school/high-school/international
Favoured Stat: Eg PPG or BPG or APG or RPG .. etc

I will then take the first 10 and find the best fits amongst the rookie class of 2036 and insert them in. There will obviously be some randomness and that's part of the fun I guess :)

Cut-off is here ... looks like it's 11 recruits then.

Slight change, I'll be simming to 2025 instead and it'll start then.

JeeberD 02-08-2006 09:33 AM

Damn! :(

law90026 02-08-2006 09:28 PM

Simming is still in progress, at 2018 now .. work's a little heavy right now ...

Let me clarify how your players are going to be chosen. When I said to choose big-school/small-school/high-school/independent, what I intended to do was to pick the highest rated players for the position/category as evaluated by the relevant scout. For those who have played TPB before, the GM essentially has 4 scouts, one for each category.

So it means that my big-school scout could have a high-school player first on his list and if it fits any of your chosen criteria, that will be your persona for the dynasty. Apologies for any confusion.

Next, there's a significant amount of overlap in the positions. I mean, so many PGs that want to score :P Anyways, to allow for a fairer choice, I'm going to ask that you insert a second category into your criteria for me to determine your persona.

This means edits will be required and I apologise for that. First time dynasty's, heh.

Finally, Jeeber, go ahead and create one more, might as well have a full roster of 12.

Coffee Warlord 02-08-2006 09:45 PM

There. Edited!

tucker342 02-08-2006 11:06 PM

Hey, if u don't mind, I changed my position from PG to SF when I listed the second skill. If that's a problem let me know and I'll change it back

Draft Night 2026, New York, Madison Square Garden

It’s that time again, when some franchises believe they can find that one player to push them to the top, when some franchises believe they can find that one superstar to bring back respectability and when some young kids will have their dreams fulfilled … or dashed.

Who’s going Number 1 in the draft? Which franchise will make the right decision? Will the draft picks be made based on potential or performance? After such a long time, it’s safe to say that drafting is still an inexact science … some have called it a crapshoot and who’s to say they’re wrong?

But here at the No. 4 Sports Network, we’re not going to do the conventional draft analysis … there’s a reason why we’re “The Network That’s Different” (and also a reason why we’re No. 4). We’ll just randomly analyse the draft as and when we have time to do so during the intermission breaks for The Dog and Pony Championship 2026.

Stay tuned and wait for the random updates …

law90026 02-10-2006 05:02 AM

K so that was just a teaser ... sims are done, draft will be carried out after the weekend and the dynasty begins from there.

law90026 02-13-2006 08:21 AM

2026 Draft Recap:

Well, the draft is done and we will have a full update of the draft results in the late night show, along with our experts’ full review of what happened. But here are some preliminary views on the first round of the draft:

Pick No. 1:

Bulls pick Owen Hunter, PG, 6-2, 175 pounds (3.5/5)

Well, the Bulls appear to have picked their PG off the future. It’s unlikely Owen, a sophomore out of who averaged 8.3 assists and 1.8 steals per game, will be the started this year, because the Bulls have Henry Hampton, an 11 year veteran, manning the point right now. But this will give Owen a chance to hone his craft behind a player who was an all-star in 2024. The only question is how patient will the fans of the Bulls be with a franchise that had needs in other parts of the roster?

Pick No. 2: Denver Nuggest pick Dan Ertmann, PG, 6-1, 188 pounds (3/4)

And the number 2 pick is another point guard, this time Dan Ertmann from Gonzaga. In his freshman year, Dan averaged 25.2 points per game, proving that he was a big-time scorer. But there are questions where he has the right attitude to be a point-guard .. or whether he’s going to look for his shot more than his team mates. It does look that Dan is going to be the starter in at this time, unless the Nuggets pick up a more experienced guard during free agency.

Pick No. 3: Bobcats pick Travis Elkin, PF, 6-9, 272 pounds, (3.5/5)

This is a franchise that needed a big-man and they got him in Travis Elkin. Travis has been playing in since he was 14, eschewing the traditional route of going to college. This has served him well it appears because he looks polished and ready for the NBA. The only question now is whether he’s tall enough to play at PF for the Bobcats but expectations are high for the young man who averaged 29.5 points and 3 blocks in the Euro League.

Pick No. 4: LA Lakers pick Jeeber D Mack, PF, 6-9, 243 pounds (2.5/4.5)

Potential was the key word here as the Lakers picked the High School Senior. While D Mack averaged 28.4 points and 13.4 rebounds each game, that was against high-school competition. We’ll be honest right now and question this pick when the Lakers already have Andy Howell (3.5/3.5) and Rashad Ohnstad (4.5/4.5) as their big men and with other holes to be filled. There’s no questioning D Mack has potential but will he actually develop it? He’s also been widely regarded as too short and too slender to play at PF. He’s going to have a lot to prove in the coming years.

Pick No. 5: Indiana Pacers pick John Williams, C, 7-5, 290 pounds (3.5/3.5)

Looks like the Pacers have their centre of the future. The third-year player out of

Pick No. 6: picks Richard Goree, SG (1.5/5)

Pick No. 7: picks Major Williamson, PG (3/4.5)

Pick No. 8: LA Clippers pick Danny Wilson, C, 6-11, 275 pounds (2/3)

Wow, looks like this may be a wasted pick. The Clips already have Bobby Dare and Kurt Jones (both 5/5) as their big man, so why waste a pick on another big man? Especially one that hasn’t proven himself at the highest level of competition yet? Nothing against the third-year player out of

Pick No. 9: Trailblazers pick Neuqua Verma, SG, 6-5, 213 pounds (2.5/4.5)

An interesting pick by the Trailblazers. Neuqua has the potential to be one of the best off-guards in the league, provided the high-schooler develops accordingly. Still, it looks like he could be playing regular minutes this year, either as one of the two starting guards or the first guard off the bench, unless free-agency changes the complexion of the Trailblazers significantly.

Pick No. 10: Caveliers pick Rob Nielsen, SF, 6-6, 218 pounds (3/3.5)

The Caveliers have missed King LeBron since he retired and they’re hoping Rob, who’s been playing in , will be able to fill those shoes. Let’s be honest, nobody’s going to be able to do that and it’s definitely not Rob. Don’t get us wrong, this was a good solid pick by the Cavs, because Rob looks NBA ready right now. But he probably isn’t going to be the franchise player the Cavs need to turn things around .. not yet anyway.

Pick No. 16: Grizzlies pick Tim Moungey, PG, 6-4, 193 pounds (2/3)

The senior from LSU goes in the middle of the first round. Here’s a guy who will work hard, defend and be a great locker room presence. He proved that by being co-captain of LSU last year while averaging 2.7 steals and 14.6 points per game. Will he win games on his own? Probably not. But he’s got the potential to be a solid contributor.

Pick No. 18: Wizards pick AJ Tucker, SF, 6-6, 215 pounds (2/3.5)

The Wizards made a good pick here in our opinion. The sophomore out of is still raw right now but he may just develop into a really good player in a couple of years. It also looks like AJ has the chance to get some serious minutes at SG or SF, considering he’s already one of the Wizard’s better players at those positions. He’ll be hoping his 19.1 points per game and 1.1 steals will translate well in the NBA.

Pick No. 19: Timberwolves pick “Zippo”, PG, 6-2, 207 pounds (2.5/3)

Ordinarily, this would have been a decent pick. The guard who goes by the nickname “Zippo” had an outstanding 4 years at Seton Hall and he peaked last year, averaging 8.8 assists and 18.3 points each game. Zippo has the potential to be a starting point guard for a franchise looking for a player to handle the ball. But the T’wolves are not likely to give him much playing time, not when Siyolo Sexwole (4/4.5) is already playing the bulk of the minutes at the point. Jaime Beeson (3/3) is the back up, so where’s Zippo going to find minutes?

Pick No 20: Celtics pick Mike Tokunaga, PG, 6-3, 204 pounds (2/2.5)

Mike’s in the right place at the right time. He was the best available PG left on when the Celtics turn to pick came and the Celts needed a PG. M.T will be a steady influence at the point, especially with his pass-first, pass-last, approach to the game. He was the leader in assists last year in the NCAA, averaging 12.7 assists for New Mexico, and the Celtics will be counting on the senior to bring the same selfless game to the NBA.

Johnny93g 02-13-2006 08:41 AM

Wow, im a monster!!!!..7-5, 290, i need to add some weight though

Summer League 2026:

Ah summer league, the time when rookies get to play against each other and when vets try desperately to prove themselves good enough for another year in the league. Tracking the rookie class of 2026, here’s a breakdown of how they performed. It’ll be interesting to see how they develop this year, but based on these performances, it looks like Owen Hunter, Dan Ertmann, Travis Elkin, D Mack and John Williams are the front-runners for Rookie of the Year, with Neuqua Verma and Rob Nielsen having an outside shot at it. Keep an eye out for John Williams and Danny Wilson though, they look like potential Defensive Players of the Year, which should make Indiana and the LA Clippers very happy.

Owen Hunter (No. 1): 25.5 PPG, 6.4 APG, 6.6 RPG

MVP of the Summer League

Top Scorer of the Summer League

Dan Ertmann (No. 2): 17.4 PPG, 4.5 APG, 6.6 RPG

Travis Elkin (No. 3): 22.7 PPG, 3.9 APG, 9.4 RPG, 2.5 BPG

Jeeber D Mack (No. 4): 17.6 PPG, 1.1 APG, 7.8 RPG

John Williams (No. 5): 11.2 PPG, 4.7 APG, 11.0 RPG, 3.1 BPG

Danny Wilson (No. 8): 8.9 PPG, 4.4 APG, 9.2 RPG, 1.4 BPG

Blocks Leader for the Summer League

Neuqua Verma (No. 9): 14.6 PPG, 3.5 APG, 4.7 RPG, 1.2 BPG

Rob Nielsen (No. 10): 16.7 PPG, 4.1 APG, 7.3 RPG, 1.5 BPG, 1.4 SPG

Tim Moungey (No. 16): 11.9 PPG, 4.9 APG, 3.3 RPG, 1.8 SPG

AJ Tucker (No. 18): 13.8 PPG, 2.1 APG, 6.0 RPG, 1.3 BPG

Zippo (No. 19): 12.1 PPG, 6.0 APG, 6.6 RPG, 1.4 BPG

Mike Tokunaga (No. 20): 3.0 PPG, 9.5 APG, 5.0 RPG, 2.2 SPG

Assists Leader for the Summer League

Sublime 2 02-13-2006 08:57 AM

WOW....first overall....NICE!!

Izulde 02-13-2006 09:10 AM

Not a bad showing for my first summer league. I may be one of those guys who ends up having a quietly successful career for the first few seasons before I break out round about my fourth year or so :D

Coffee Warlord 02-13-2006 09:24 AM

Your ROY is right here.

Rob will dominate.

law90026 02-13-2006 09:35 AM

Owen Hunter (No. 1, Chicago): And the Rookie dethrones the All-Star. Owen is the starting PG for the Bulls and he has developed nicely. Expectations are high for Owen and he is expected to be one of the top scorers in the league. Of course, it helps that the dethroned All-Star is playing at off-guard to take some pressure off Owen. The question is, will they play well together, considering Owen is 6-2 and Henry Hampton is 6-1?

Dan Ertmann (No. 2, Denver): Dan has been given the starting nod as the PG for the Nuggets. It appears the coach wants to give Dan as much playing time as possible to develop, especially because Dan hasn’t developed much yet (still 3/4). Of course, it’s never fair to judge a rookie’s career so early but comparisons will be inevitable with Owen Hunter.

Travis Elkin (No. 3, Charlotte): Travis came in with a chip on his shoulder, bristling at comments he was too short to play at the 4. Well, that aggression has paid off (4/5) and Travis is looking to prove he’s a future All-Star. The fact that he’s starting for the Bobcats isn’t going to hurt his development and the Bobcats will be hoping for some big games from the not-so-big PF.

Jeeber D Mack (No. 4, LA Lakers): Well D Mack’s worst fears came true. He’s not going to start for the Lakers this year … or for the near future. He’s still solid but he’s just in the wrong place at the wrong time. At least he’s the first big man off the bench and he has some room to improve and impress his coach (2.5/4.5)

John Williams (No. 5, Indiana): Rumour has it John Williams is pissed and he wants out of Indiana. Big John has been given the 6th man spot but he’s disgruntled because Pacer’s starting Center, James Denson, isn’t much better than Big John. The only thing James Denson has over Big John is experience (9 year vet) but that neglects the fact Big John has a higher upside (3/3.5). It’ll be interesting to see how this plays out as the season progresses.

Danny Wilson (No. 8, LA Clippers): No 9 on the depth chart. Not a good sign for No. 8 pick of the draft. Has the fact that he’s not high on the depth chart played on his mind? Danny’s development hasn’t happened yet (2/3) and he’ll have to prove himself if not he may find his career in jeopardy.

Neuqua Verma (No. 9, Portland): Neuqua may not see as much playing time as he might like this season. He’s probably ready for some minutes (2.5/4.5) and he will need to treasure all of them if he wants to develop. He’s number 8 on the depth chart but the Trailblazers have a bunch of guards and small forwards who are just slightly better than Neuqua.

Rob Nielsen (No. 10, Cleveland): The overseas experience has served Rob well. He’s starting at the 3 for Cleveland and he looks to be a serviceable player (3/3.5). Cleveland is expecting a little of everything from Rob and he’s in a position to do that.

Tim Moungey (No. 16, Memphis): Another rookie in a bad place. No. 9 on the depth chart and theoretically the first PG to come off the bench (2/3). But when the starting PG, SG and SF are all versatile to play the point as well, Tim will have to scrap for minutes unless things take a dramatic turn for the better.

AJ Tucker (No. 18, Washington): It’s a pity the Wizards coach wants to play his big-men more this year. The starting SF is actually PF Matt Hancock (3.5/3.5), who’s just a little to small to play with the big boys. The reserve SF is Russ Owens (3.5/3.5), who’s better than AJ (2.5/3.5). Looks like a development year for AJ.

Zippo (No. 19, Minnesota): Zippo would be a possible starter for some other teams (2.5/3) but he’s just not in a position to get many minutes in Minnesota. Sexwole (4/4.5) is clearly the PG for the T’wolves and there are at least 2 players ahead of Zippo on the depth charts. This was a bad draft pick by the T’wolves and Zippo is suffering as a result.

Mike Tokunaga (No. 20, Boston): Mike is the 3rd PG on the depth chart. He’ll provide some relief minutes but don’t expect too much from him (2/2.5). Hopefully he’s given a chance because he has such great potential to be a leader on the floor.

law90026 02-13-2006 09:37 AM

Johnny93g 02-13-2006 09:49 AM

John Williams just wants to be playing when the game is on the line...so not starting at this point doesnt matter too much. Let's see how i do with my minutes at this point

law90026 02-13-2006 10:18 AM

Owen Hunter (No. 1, Chicago): And a big shock in Chicago as Owen was yanked from the starting line-up on the first day. For some reason, Owen is now the 6th man. Confusion reigns in the Hunter camp as there doesn’t appear to be any real reason for this. Another concern at this time is that Owen appears to be injury prone. After just 14 games, Owen has already missed 5 games with niggling injuries.

9 games played, 0 started: 13.9 MPG, 7 PPG, 3 APG

Dan Ertmann (No. 2, Denver): And another shock as Dan was also dropped from the starting line-up in Denver. He’s now the 8th man in the depth chart.

14 games played, 0 started: 15.4 MPG, 5.6 PPG, 2.2 APG

Travis Elkin (No. 3, Charlotte): At least one of the rookies is keeping his starting spot. Travis is proving to be solid at the 4 and he may just be the ROY. Rookie of the Month for Month 1 is in the bag.

12 games played, 12 games started: 34.3 MPG, 15.2 PPG, 8.3 RPG, 1.7 SPG, 2.2 BPG

Rookie of the Month

Jeeber D Mack (No. 4, LA Lakers): Nothing too extraordinary here as D Mack is coming off the bench as anticipated. What was nice to see was a 3 game stretch when D Mack started, during which he averaged 9 PPG and 6.7 RPG.

14 games played, 3 started: 18.7 MPG, 5.6 PPG, 3.9 RPG

John Williams (No. 5, Indiana): Still coming off the bench but Big John is sliding down the depth chart. He’s now No. 8 when he was formerly No. 6.

11 games played, 0 started: 16.5 MPG, 4.0 PPG, 4.5 RPG, 1.3 BPG

Danny Wilson (No. 8, LA Clippers): We never want to call a player a bust early in his career but Danny isn’t doing too well. He’s logged 10 DNPs already and he hasn’t played much at all in the other 5 games.

5 games played, 0 started: 8.2 MPG

Neuqua Verma (No. 9, Portland): 13 games, 8 DNPs. Another rookie having trouble adjusting to the NBA. For the No. 9 pick in the draft, that’s disappointing.

5 games played, 0 started: 4.4 MPG, 1.2 PPG

Rob Nielsen (No. 10, Cleveland): And another rookie lost his starting spot on opening night. At least Rob is contributing off the bench on a regular basis.

13 games played, 0 started, 1 DNP: 19.7 MPG, 7.2 PPG

Tim Moungey (No. 16, Memphis): Another small frail PG? Niggling injuries have not allowed Tim to play to his potential and that has cut into his minutes.

9 games played, 0 started, 4 DNPs: 13.7 MPG, 3.2 PPG, 1.2 APG

AJ Tucker (No. 18, Washington): Nothing unexpected here. AJ Tucker wasn’t going to see much time and that has proven true.

5 games played, 0 started, 7 DNPs: 10.4 MPG, 4.8 PPG, 1.0 APG, 1.6 RPG

Zippo (No. 19, Minnesota): Zippo’s actually doing better than expected. He’s getting regular minutes and he even got to start one game … though he promptly got himself injured (39 minutes played, 1-10 FG, 3 pts, 6 assists, 2 rebounds, 2 steals). There may be some potential here if Zippo works on his shooting.

13 games played, 1 started: 8.5 MPG, 1.5 PPG

Mike Tokunaga (No. 20, Boston): Regular minutes are good, even if they aren’t too many.

14 games played, 1 DNP: 6.8 MPG, 1.0 PPG

Sublime 2 02-13-2006 11:10 AM

Coffee Warlord 02-13-2006 01:13 PM

Izulde 02-13-2006 01:18 PM

Damn injuries! I *will* work my way up the chart and become the Prince of Thieves, damn it.

Neuqua 02-13-2006 03:10 PM

F'ing Blazers.

JeeberD 02-13-2006 05:46 PM

I demand a trade! Not just because I'm not starting, but mostly because I'm playing for the fucking LAKERS! Make me a Rocket or a Mav and I'll be a happy camper...

Coffee Warlord 02-13-2006 05:48 PM

Rob Nielsen demands he be traded along with Jeeber D Mack to somewhere warm. Phoenix sounds good.

We will dominate.

There are requests for trades and I can see what I can arrange. However, do you guys want to allow this? And if so, I'm going to suggest that you have a maximum of 3 requests throughout your career.

Let me know what you guys think.

Jesse_Ewiak 02-13-2006 08:40 PM

Actually, I'd limit it to two. Consider the average career of a star is say, ten-twelve years, that means you could concievably change teams every four years with trades, not including free agency. Two gives you one free 'I hate the team I got drafted to' and one 'this team sucks now.' Also, I'd make 'em wait one full season before trades. No NBA team is going to trade a first round pick in a rookie year unless he's a bust of epic proportions. Just MODO though.

That actually makes sense to me. I'm inclined to go with this unless there are any objections. I will not limit the trades to the end of the first season. First round can take place just before the trading deadline of the first season, around month 5.
