Quin Snyder Resigns
Thought I bring some sunshine to the Mizzou fans. :D
http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/news/story?id=2326174 I'm glad about this actually. The Tigers are not the Tigers unless they are competing for the Big XII title on a regular basis. I miss the ole Stomin' Norman days. :( |
Now comes a very interesting search for new coach. The creighton coach has been tossed around, but i dont know. its tough, as quinn was thought to be a sure-fire star and fizzled
|
Wojo!

As an Illini fan, I'm sad about this....I loved bitch slapping the Tigers around the basketball court...Can Bob Huggins be far behind? Interesting thought....

I guess when he so adamantly declared yesterday he wasn't going anywhere we should have know what was next. Conflicting reports out of Columbia on whether this was Quin's choice or he was forced out -- one station here says all their sources at MU say the athletic department was stunned, but some other sources seem to indicate that this was at the very least a mutual decision -- the interview with Coach K on ESPN was quite interesting.

John Calipari is going to be the hot name for a while. Calipari's wife is from Missouri, and there were stories all over the place last year that he let it be know if the Missouri job opened he was interested. Whether he and Memphis have had made up might be an issue, but we'll see. I'd hate to see Calipari get the gig -- great coach, but lots of baggage. I think the initial No. 1 choice will be Mark Few. He's making $400k at Gonzaga -- Quin was making triple that. Missouri has some big money boosters that will open up the wallet for a new coach. But it's way too early. Missouri won't be able to talk to the coaches they want to until they get knocked out of the tournament. All we have is a month head start on getting unofficial word from guys on their interest and nailing down a prospect list so you can hit the job running as soon as their season's are over. Without a doubt, Missouri's next head coach will be a current head coach somewhere else. Mike Alden's still kicking himself for not hiring Bill Self. |
Ding dong, the witch is dead.

Missouri isn't a top 10 job -- it's not a North Carolina. But it's the next tier down. It's a better job than most others he's been a leading candidate for, like Washington and South Carolina. I think it's a better job than USC for that matter. Heck, Kelvin Sampson today said that Missouri is the third best job in the Big XII behind Kansas and Missouri -- you have a great recruiting base, not major in-state competition and a brand new arena. Maybe Few doesn't really want to leave the Northwest. If that's the case, it'll be a short conversation. Do I think it's likely? No. Is it possible he'll end up at Missouri? More likely Mark Few than Bill Self. :) |

I always thought Snyder did Ok, and took a lot of unfair criticism. I expect him to get another good job, and be back in the sweet 16 at some point.

He lost control of the team a lot. This season he completly lost control. His biggest problem was that he tried to run Duke's offense with... 1. No point guard 2. Far less talent 3. No noticeable in-game adjustments I contend that his early success was due to the mixture of his highly talented athletic recruits and Norm Stewert's team-oriented players. He never really saw the need to recruit the latter. That said when Quin was hired tt was definitely time for Norm to go and without a doubt I will give Quin credit for his run the first 5-6 years, but his shelf life had run out. Anybody who follows this program closely knows that. I wish him luck if he does get another head coaching job, but until he learns how to coach 2 & 3 star recruits he needs to realize that he's not a Duke anymore. |
It will be interesting to see who Missouri goes after. Although someone losing his job is not the greatest news in the world, getting a new coach can be exciting. (see Rams)

There isn't a chance in hell Mark Few goes to Missouri, no offense KcChief. Gonzaga is a MUCH better program then Missouri is right now for one. Second, Few is probably the UofA's first choice to replace Lute Olson and Few knows this. Lastly, Ernie Kent will be fired from Oregon after this season ends and Few is an Oregon grad and Oregon is a marginally better program then Missouri is.
When UCLA was looking for a coach, Few was the top backup option after Howland, but most insiders thought that he wouldnt be interested in the move to a big city because he's got really high blood pressure. |
I just hope they're not eyeballing Mark Turgeon which is the rumor I heard around here yesterday.
We like him, leave him alone. |
Keep away from John Beilein. :(

Oregon maybe. Nike money plus Few is an alum. |

I don't think Turgeon will get much of a look -- I don't think Alden can hire a Jayhawk and get any support from the boosters. I would agree that Few to Oregon or Arizona are more likely destinations than Missouri. The story behind the story is still unclear. The Star reported that the AD sent one of his assistants, radio color man Gary Link, to tell Quin Thursday the decision had been made to let him go at the end of the year. A member of the board of curators says Link did talk to Quin, but he wasn't seen by Alden and that Link was in tears because he was so upset that Quin misunderstood the conversation. This is a, however, a member of the board who is highly unreliable, so I discount his statement. We can't even get rid of a coach without looking like a monkey fucking a football. |
Thank God Snyder turned down the UW job in 2002, otherwise Barbara ("Destroy Everything You Touch") Hedges would've succeeded in killing both the football and basketball programs. It was only by sheer luck that she hired Lorenzo Romar - Snyder, Mark Few and Dan Monson all turned her down.

You can have Gary Waters.
|
Majerus is who I heard as well.
|
Majerus couldnt even hack it for a day at USC, a school with no basketball sense, I doubt he can make it at Missouri

Here Ricky, Ricky..
