Thoughts for Neon Chaos

They apparently had a huge mudslide in the Phillippines today, killing 1800+. Don't know where he is specifically from, but his country needs our good thoughts and/or prayers tonight.

Very true. The MSG I work with is from the Philippines as well. They're all in my thoughts.

Hope everything is ok, Neon!

I noticed that this happened in a farming village. From what I understand, Neon Chaos lives elsewhere, but there is no telling where he visits. Hope things are going well for him.

Damn, saw this in the news the other day. I hope Neon and his family are ok.

sachmo71 02-18-2006 01:49 PM

I believe he lives up by Batan Island. Or he's mentioned it. Not many people live on Leyte, so he's probably ok.

JeeberD 02-18-2006 01:51 PM

I hope he's OK...

I live in Manila. So, no, it's pretty far from where I live.

But the mudlisde in Leyte was another tragedy, so soon from the stampede a couple of weeks ago. It's pretty depressing, really. :(

It is a tragedy - for shame. At least Erap isn't running the show right now - he'd find a way to screw it up. Is the army out there ? If I recall correctly -isn't there a base somewhere close to there ?

So what do you think is the real story about the state of emergency/coup plot? Is it manufactured by GMA or something legitimate (though still probably a plutocrat vs plutocrat issue)? I read somewhere that the alleged coup plotters where relatively low-level officers.

Neon_Chaos 02-25-2006 12:37 PM

My take, step by step:

#1 - GMA already knew about the plot months ahead..
#2 - She needed something to be able to stop all these rallies from the opposition party during the anniv. of the People Power revolution.
#3 - At about 6 AM, about a dozen apcs and tanks from Tarlac came into Manila. Why? They were pre-empting any rallies from going on.
#4 - About 7 AM, the coup plot was revealed and foiled, during the morning - noon, the rallies were underway
#5 - About 2 PM GMA declares a "state of emergency", suspends all rally permits and issues the proclamation barring anyone from rallying. At the same time, several opposition leaders are arrested for breaking this law. Without their leaders, tseveral rallyists disperse and leave.
#6 - Opposition rallyists are blocked from entering the EDSA shrine, they converge in Makati, in Ninoy's monument, where Ninoy's wife, former president Corazon Aquino gave a speech.
#7 - The speeches and convergence of people lasted until about 10PM, and then peacably disperesed by the police.
#8 - Opposition leaders are released, officers involved in coup plot are arrested.
#9 - Saturday, feb. 25, and everything is back to normal. no opposition rallies, no trouble.

GMA is a fucking genius.

Yep. Interesting how people don't appear to take this too seriously--more political drama between the rich and the richer...
