Consumer Alert: McDonald's

No, this isn't something that's "official" but something that I'm sharing with you FOFCers after having eaten there today. Just as I shared the fact that Wendy's Super Value Menu is a better deal to order from than their packaged meals, I will share this nugget about McDonald's with the rest of you so you can save money:

McDonald's has their dollar menu. While overall, it's not that much of a better deal to order from, the chicken nuggets are much cheaper. I found that a Cheeseburger is $1, and if you order a lone Cheeseburger from the Extra Value Meals, it's $1.09. You save $.09 if you order off the dollar menu.

4 piece Chicken McNuggets: $1.00
6 piece Chicken McNuggets: $2.89
10 piece Chicken McNuggets: $3.69
20 piece Chicken McNuggets: $5.49

As you can see, it's much cheaper to order your Chicken McNuggets in packs of 4 off the dollar menu than the regular menu. For the price of a 6 piece Chicken McNugget you can get almost 12 Chicken McNuggets. Very strange.

I think you can extrapolate this for huge savings...

Assume ordering 5 4pc nuggets from value menu instead of 20pc box.

Weekly savings: $3.43
Annual savings: $178.36

After 20 years at 3% interest you'll have $4879.66!

w00t.

Almost enough to pay for the doctor visit you will need after eating Mcdonalds once a day for 20 consecutive years!:D

Desnudo 03-10-2006 11:37 AM

Did you weigh the McNuggets though?

Passacaglia 03-10-2006 11:52 AM

How do you specify which menu you're ordering your cheeseburger from? And besides, aren't double cheeseburgers also a dollar?

Are you sure it's not the case that TWO cheeseburgers are 1.09?

Aha. I sit corrected. It's the double cheeseburger that was on the dollar menu, but the "regular" cheeseburgers are $1.09 each.

Still, good find about the nuggets. I never get them, cuz 2.89 for 6 nuggets is fast food robbery. 4 for a buck ain't bad.

Raiders Army 03-10-2006 12:04 PM

The prices were for Highland Falls, NY, so YMMV.

GoSeahawks 03-10-2006 12:04 PM

4-piece nugget meal isn't on the dollar menu here. They also took the double cheeseburger off and jacked it up .30 cents.

Old News.

McNuggets Scam

Icy 03-10-2006 12:24 PM

I love the nuggets and i'm lucky as one of my friends works for the nuggets and burgers factory that is the McDonnalds provider for Spain. The factory employes are allowed to buy food once per month and he bought a full pack of nuggets to share with me. I have in my fridge now 6 boxes of 100 nuggets each... yum!

my colon is not envious of that at all. jeezus...McD's kills me. Last time I ate there I had chicken selects...yeah...I was so sick the next day that I had to go home sick from work (first time in 10 years of my working life). Sworn it off since then, even though i know that's an overreaction.

cuervo72 03-10-2006 01:42 PM

Yep, I've been doing this forever. My kids say they like to have a hamburger/cheeseburger meal, but they also want nuggets. Getting a 4-piece kids meal is a decent amount more than the others, so I make sure to get the burgers with the meal and the 4 pieces for $1. If we're not getting the kids meals, I always order nuggets by thte 4-piece.

And yes, if you're hungry enough to want it, go for the double cheesburger over the regular.

That is a crime against nature. They better not have done that where I live.

Lunch update: This is the first time I've eaten at Mickey D's in a while (like about a month). I feel sluggish and kinda queasy. I really didn't believe that Supersize Me guy, but I do now. This is the first time it's happened to me.

MizzouRah 03-10-2006 01:57 PM

I just ate a prime rib sandwich from Quiznos and I feel great.

WSUCougar 03-10-2006 02:03 PM

Cajun chicken sandwich from The Brick. Mmmmm.

Been probably 4 years since I've touched Mickey D's food. Wow do I not miss that sludge.

However, the chicken melt and 2 pints of guinness I had over lunch rocked.

Unfortunately since I sell mainly in the sticks, McDs and Wendys are considered fine dining establishments...

WSUCougar 03-10-2006 02:19 PM

The key unanswered question here is how much a 4-pack of McNoggins will cost ya:

I went into McDonald's for lunch today -- didn't order because the line was too long. No 4-piece Chicken Nuggets on the menu. Double Cheeseburgers were $1, compared to $1.30 for Cheeseburgers. Bummin'.

oliegirl 03-10-2006 04:14 PM

I had Cheesecake Factory for lunch today :) Bruchetta for appetizer and then a piece of the Tomato Basil pizza and some Factory Nachos...a couple bites of Oreo Cheesecake for desert....YUM-O!!!!

General Mike 03-10-2006 06:37 PM

Whopper Jr is on the Burger King $1 menu now. Or 99 cent menu. Whatever.
