cartman 03-23-2006 10:48 AM

So, are you in Trafalgar Square?

flere-imsaho 03-23-2006 10:49 AM

Across the street from the British Museum is (assuming the front entrance) a relatively decent pub, if I remember correctly. ;)

Right around the corner (towards Buckingham Palace) is the Texas Embassy! :)

 Typical tourist - more impressed that his phone can send e-mails across the Atlantic than the huge amount of history and culture before his eyes :D ;) :p

Qwikshot 03-23-2006 11:10 AM

Been there, done that

Have fun dude...least the pubs are open later.

You can't go anywhere in London without tripping over a pub. I thought there was only one close to our office at Hyde Park corner, but it turns out there were 10 within a half mile!

AlexB 03-23-2006 11:11 AM

Dola,

DT - in case you don't see it on your phone, there are lots of smilies after my previous post - hope you enjoy our hospitality! Even though it's still damn cold, it is unbeleivably 4-5 degrees warmer today than recently

Daddy the Slingbox beta mediaplayer was released for our phone today.. Now you can not only post from London on FOFC, but watch your cable TV anywhere you want.. You could be cranking up the NCAA tourney in a while..

Well, he mentioned just a generic, lower-caps "british museum", so I made a guess and thought he was referring to the National Gallery.

3ric 03-23-2006 12:31 PM

Sorry, thought it was obvious he meant "the" British Museum.

rkmsuf 03-23-2006 12:33 PM

Order a champagne American.

although you'd have to be in France to do that

What would have been great is if he answered, "No, the place I'm in has a giant pole in the middle surrounded by a bunch of fountains."

:D

Unlike us locals who live here our entire lives and have yet to see half of the 'culture' ... ;)

We do pubs well in England* - Norwich (city in Norfolk) was very proud a few years back that it had a pub for every day of the year (leap years covered ;) ) .... probably has more than that now :D

*Although most of them are slowly turning into glorified restaurants - which doesn't bother me too much personally, just so long as they still televise the soccer matches when they're on ;)

The Grenadier was basically right behind our office. I don't see that one turning into a glorified restaurant any time soon... :D

AlexB 03-23-2006 03:17 PM

Sometimes I'm still not sure whether things I post have come out as I intended - my 'typical tourist' post was taken as a joke, right?

(Not saying it was actually funny btw, just that it wasn't serious)

Quit worrying, shorts! Everyone knows you were actually slamming Torgo's touristy behavior. I mean, if you were joking, you would have put at least 30 more smileys after it. :)

WSUCougar 03-23-2006 04:07 PM

Have you seen H.M.S. Victory?

I think the exchange rate has gotten a bit more favorable, but when I was in Europe about 16 months ago, it was cheaper to just order anything like that I wanted online than to buy it there. I thought that was kinda crazy.

That's in Portsmouth not London.

Edit: You may be thinking of H.M.S. Belfast, a WW2 battlecruiser, which is permenantly moored on the Thames.

DaddyTorgo 03-24-2006 01:57 PM

saw the belfast didn't go on it though. actually saw it from the tower of london...good times that was.

AlexB 03-24-2006 02:00 PM
