Poker: FOFC Heads Up Tournament
I brought this idea up a while ago, but it didn't seem to gain a lot of traction at the time. I was curious to see if there was any more interest now. I'd like to setup an FOFC heads up tournament. Stars would be the best place to set this up at since they allow the creation of private heads up tournaments. I would have to look into what buy ins they allow, but I was just thinking something along the lines of 5-10 dollars Edit: I can't create a tournament for less than $10 so the tournament will be a $10+1 . Would there be any interest in something like this?
Tournament Format There has been some questions below on how the tournament works so I will try and give a description of how this will come together. Whatever fee for the tournament we settle on will be a one time fee just like a regular sit and go. So if we went with $10 then it would be a 10 + 1. We will need to settle on a time for everyone as the tournament takes place at all at once. If we have 16 people we will all be split up into 8 heads up matches randomly by Stars at the same time. Once each of those 8 matches are completed the winners will then be randomly paird up by Stars for the next round and then down to two etc. It's a bracket-style tournamnet just like the NCAA tournament. Depending on the number of participants we could have some buys in the first round. The number of places paid out is determined by the total number of entries. We will use NL Hold 'Em for this tournament. If we has some support for limit hold 'em as well I wouldn't mind trying to setup another tournament in the future with that format. For now though we will go with no-limit. Whatever time we settle on make sure you block out a few hours for the tournament to complete. The next round doesn't start until everyone in the current round finishes their match. In the first round everyone starts with 1,500 chips and the blinds are 10/20 and escalate along the normal Stars timeline. The second round everyone starts with 3,000 chips and the blinds start at 20/40 and so on. If you ahve any questions or I haven't been clear enough let me know. I will keep a list of the people interested below. Added a running list of the people interested. Radii and myself so far. :)
I'd be interested
If it's a single, heads-up MTT (ie, bracket-style) then I'd definitely be up for this. If it's a series of 2-person SnGs, then it'll have to be cheaper than $5-10 a shot. :)

Simms, It is a bracket-style tournament. Once all the first round matches are complete Stars will randomly pair all the winners for the 2nd round and so forth until we have a winner. All in one tournament. |

Then count me in. :) |
I'm not much for heads up, but since we don't seem to do the FOFC tourneys any more then this sounds like a decent substitute.
I'm interested as well.
Sorry about not setting up a Colossal Squid tourney as of late. A bunch of other crap has been interrupting my poker time, and I just keep forgetting. I'll get one set up for this Sunday evening, and post the thread in a bit. |
Depends when but I could be swayed :). It's a one-time $5-10 fee right?
I'd be interested.
What's the timing on this type of thing? Do the two players set their own time for a match? |
I would like to be included, please. LHE or NLHE?
I'll keep my eye on this thread for more details to be posted.
I'd be interested as well, but my availability is spotty, as I am not only on the West Coast, but I wait tables, so I'm usually not available in the evenings. Like Neuqua, I'll be following along as information presents itself.

It's a scheduled event, where everyone sits down at the same time. Once all first round games are done, then the second round starts. So if you bust your opponent on the first hand, you'll have to wait for all of the other matches to finish before you play again. |

so one shot deal in one night then. I've never ventured into one of these on the site. |
they have 4 person hu tourneys on stars which are nice practice...

The seeding is random. |
I'm normally a 9 man tourney guy on there.
Who is doing the seeding? |
I have put some more tournament details in the original post. If anyone has any questions let me know. We may want to start trying to nail down a time for this as well since I think we will have enough people. Like I said in the original thread you should give yourself a couple hours for the tourney to complete if you plan on winning. :) Heads up matches can be funny. SOme last only a few hands others can last 20 minutes. The next round does not start until everyone in the current round is done.
Also due to the time stamp bug it is possible I may miss a post from someone who is interested so if I miss your name on the list just let me know.
id be interested, ill probably get crushed, but it would be fun none the less
I'm down for it depending on timing.
I'de be interested
Ok I now have access to create private tournaments. Unfortunately it won't let me create a tournament for less than a $10 buy in. So the tournament will be a $10+1. Let me know if that is a problem for anyone.
I'm willing to donate. Heads Up is the weakest part of my game, but this might be fun.
Looking forward to seeing the final lineup so we can lay betting lines. :)
Count me in.
Things are shaping up nicely. We have 15 people who have expressed interest. If we could get at least 16 definites that would be great and obviously more would be even better, but 16 would give us 3 full rounds which wouldn't be too bad at all.
Anyone have any thoughts on when we should hold this? I'd imagine a Firday or Saturday night might work best, but really anything works for me. That includes late and early starts as well. |
I'm in.
$10 for now is a bit too rich for me but I'll be keeping an eye and plan on watching the games live.
Good luck to all. |
As always timing is the issue. FTR I would greatly prefer to play in a HU Limit tourney at some point.
I should probably know this, but where do you guys normally play?
Okay, PokerStars, answered my own question :)

We will make the next one limit. |

Friday works great for me |
Saturday nights work better... Friday after 10 Central always work with every other Friday (this being a bad one) also working whenever.
As long as the timing works out OK, I'm interested in contributing some dead money to the tourney...
This would be totally whack. I'm down with this, dogs. Slap my ass and call me happy.
Sorry, I'm delusional from work. I'm in. |
My schedule is pretty much open to any time the group decides upon.
Ok well we have 18 people who have expressed interest. I think we can start nailing down a time. Is this Saturday too soon for anyone?
I am going to throw out This Saturday April 1st at 10 PM ET, 9 PM CT, 7 PM PT and let you guys say yay or nay on it. If it would be better to shift the times we can do that or if it would be better to push it to next Saturday we can do that as well. |
No can do this weekend (wife's birthday), but if I'm the only one, please don't delay on account of me.
that time would work for me
That time won't work for me, but like Simms, please don't change on account of me -- I can't ever be sure of my schedule, and I usually work nights.
did someone say poker im in of course :)
That time will work for me.
Saturday night would be good for me. This one for sure, next saturday is probably ok too.
This Saturday at 9 my time (Central) works for me.
I think my weekend should be mostly clear.
