I AM A TIGERS FAN!!!
Alright folks, time for all Tiger's fans to come out of the closet! Its been a long time coming, but things are finally looking up for us long-time sufferers. So in the spirit of the Mayo Smith Society (if you don't know, don't ask!) Say it in this thread here and now right up front at the beginnning of the season...
I AM A DETROIT TIGERS FAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
Not a huge baseball fan, but I'm a Tigers' fan when I am. In fact, I am going to Opening Day on Monday. Should be fun.
|
I'M A TIGERS FAN!!!!
i started watching and fell in love with baseball in 1976 when i was 8 yrs old. That year Mark Fydrich burst on the baseball scene. I loved that guy and followed by loving the Tigers. I, also, remember 1984, sitting at home with my brother and dad. watching the Tigers on TV. Jack Morris is pitching in the 1st week of the season. Throws a no-no. i was jumping around the house. On the spot i bet my brother the Tigers would win the WS. Loved that $10 |
go twins

Of which tiger are you a fan?
*hands Bubba an apostrophe remover* |
Went to the game last night against the Rangers, they certainly looked good...
|
The Tigers were my adopted AL team. I'll always root for them unless they happen to play the Reds.
|
Somebody save this thread and bring it out again in oh, I dunno, July. ;)

Exactly why I'm proclaiming this now! No chance to 'worm' on it later. |

Worked good on the message part, seems to have malfunctioned on the title, though.;) |
You do realize that sweeping the Rangers will be no reason to assume you are any good against a legit team, right?
|
It is a crazy day in the world when the Tigers AND the Brewers are doing well.
GIve it time...heh... |
Quote:
I fully understand that. The Royals and Rangers (especially when you are facing the bottom half of the Rangers' rotation) are not that impressive. At all. That said, these are the Tigers. They've pretty much been the worst team in baseball over the last 15 years or so. So being able to beat "lesser" teams and do so convincingly and mopping up on poor pitching is something long suffering fans will get excited about. |
I also understand they've played about 1/40th, or so, of the season.
|
We all know the Tigers have much to prove but I've been there through the thick and thin, and I am not backing out now. When we lost 119 games in 03 I still made it out to 30 games and this year will be 30 more. I listen to games not on TV and I am just as excited now as I was then.
I'm in for life. |
Chris Shelton is going to hit 250 home runs this year.
|
Gotta pull for a fellow orange team.
|
Quote:
And how many will he hit after batting practice is over, and the games begin? |
Quote:
Looks like he got bored with all the homers and decided to hit a few triples tonight. Amazing start to the season for him. |
Got the bb package on dish just in time to see the Angels take the first 2 from the Yankees. Man that is sweet.
|
How about them Tigers? :)
|
Anyone else surprised that Bubba is coming out of the closet ? :D
|
I've been a Tiger fan through the good and the bad. I've spent hard earned money (games, MLB Extra Innings every year, merchandise, etc.), and it's nice to see some good times come around. I'm just annoyed by the bandwagoners.
|
Please, be merciful.
Signed, KC Fan Man we suck. Will someone please stop the insanity??!?!? |
Quote:
I feel bad for you guys and can definitely relate. |
I AM A TOLEDO MUD HEN....er....TIGERS FAN!!!!!!!!!!!
|
ill remember to bump this at the end of the season when the chisox repeat.
|
Quote:
Its weird I get more comments about my Mud Hens hat than wearing a Tiger shirt to a Phillies game. Followed the game today online, it was great. Add to that, Sportscenter lead off with Tigers baseball. |
Quote:
Why? No one is saying the Tigers are even going to win the division, we're just happy that we're competitive again. No reason to be a jerk. |
Missed the thread the first time through, but I'm a Tigers fan. Should be a great homestand...3 against the Indians, 4 against the Yankees, 3 against the Red Sox. Have good seats to the final Yankees game and the first 2 Red Sox games next weekend. Should be a great time. :)
|
lol sorry wasnt trying to be a jerk, it was all in fun baseball competitive ness. and probably something to do with our lack of a WS in a whole lots of decades
|
Quote:
Ok, that's cool. :) I still don't think the Tigers will win the central, although I think it's possible. I do think there's a better than 50% chance that they'll at least win the WC, but even if they do, their lack of postseason experience would likely end them. On the other hand, they could pull a White Sox. |
i personally would love to see the tigers get the wildcard instead of the yanks/redsox/indians
|
Well, if the tigers could get mlb to let them play the royals for the remaining 110 games.. they probably would make the playoffs ;0
|
I'm a White Sox fan, but I have to say, the Tigers fans deserve a lot of credit for the success they've had so far this year.
It should be an exciting race down to the end for the AL Central crown. |
Quote:
Here you again with this bandwagoners thing... You seeing a lot of "bandwagon" Tigers fans up there in Sunny Bellingham? Here's how it works. Some fans accused of being bandwagon fans are actually just casual fans. Casual fans tend to get more vocal, buy more paraphenilia, etc., when a team is doing well. When a team is doing well, the city gets excited, local media covers said team, more merchandise is put out on the shelves, and thus casual fans start getting a little more die hard/hard core. (see, e.g., Detroit Red Wings 1970-current day). You can be a fan of a team without spending hard earned money every year on MLB extra innings (or the Centre Ice Package or the NFL Sunday Ticket or whatever the NBA season pass is called) and team merchandise. |
Why do people care about bandwagon fans? Other than possibly making tickets tougher to get, what's the damage? More fans = greater chance to be on TV, more merchandise to choose from, more exposure for your team. Right?
|
Quote:
Let's not do this again. I don't like what I percieve as bandwagoners. You disagree with me for your own various reasons. I'm right and you're wrong. Now go to hell!!!!!! ;) |
35-14, tied Third Best Start in Detroit Tiger's history! GO TIGERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
|
I'm not sure how Tigers attenadance was in the previous yrs but I am assuming its been low, how is it this yr with a club in 1st place?
|
Quote:
They're 34-14 Bubba. Don't get too excited. You probably just jinked them, damnit. |
Quote:
Attendance is booming and a sellout is expected on Memorial Day. Big article on that in today's Freep. I'll try to link it. |
Quote:
Relax, that was on Fox's pregame last night, and they won that game so its actually 36-14! If the TV can't jinx them I can't! Leyland had a great line after the game, reporter asks him about 'playoff tickets,' Leyland says 'Well my cigarettes have filters on them, don't think that guy's did!" HA!:D Freep article link 'Its a Baseball Town Again!"http://freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AD=2006605270387 |
Quote:
Yeah, I saw that live when they were interviewing him after the game, and after he said it all the reporters were cracking up, and Leyland just stared at them not smiling. |
Quote:
Kind of unrelated but, I am really getting sick of all the "Detroit is a ___________ town now/again!" headlines. Detroit is "Hockeytown", but you couldn't give tickets away in the 80's. Detroit is now a "basketball city" once again, yet you couldn't give tickets away in the mid/late 90's. Now Detroit is a "baseball town" again, but nobody gave a shit for the last decade. IMO, if you want to label Detroit with one sport, it has to be football town. The Lions sell out every fricking game, and they haven't had a decent team in almost a decade. Not to mention you regularly get 100,000+ people into Michigan Stadium and 75,000+ into Spartan Stadium on the same day. |
Quote:
Actually, I remember that, while the Palace very rarely sold out back then, it was usually close to 75% full. This was especially true after the '94-'95 season when Grant Hill started getting people to come back, and then the year after that, they started making the playoffs again. Sure they would lose in the 1st round everytime, but the seasons were exciting, and the Palace was pretty full. |
Quote:
Yeah, but they were ultra-cheap and the atmosphere was still pretty lame. There was little discussion of the team and most people didn't care. |
Quote:
I did. :) |
Quote:
Yeah but you also shelled out for MLB Extra Innings when the Tigers were utter shite. That puts you in the category of 'special' fan :D |
Quote:
Yeah, I'm a either a little too hardcore, or else I'm desperately in need of a brain transplant. :D |
