Screenname changes...

Am I the only one at FOFC wondering where these long time 2,000+ posters come from? Who's Chris? Who's Karlifornia? At least Omnivore put his old name in his signature. These three I figured out by now, but did I miss any of them? And when did this name change trend start?

I suggest a list of name changes in this thread.

Poli 04-22-2006 07:10 AM

Who are you?

Draft Dodger 04-22-2006 07:12 AM

I am Emmit Smith

FrogMan 04-22-2006 07:41 AM

I knew about Chris and Omnivore, but this Karlifornia dude had me wondering. Took quite a lucky shot to figure it out... From this thread:

Allthough I listen to all types of music, I find that most of my collection has a lot of R&B (lot more old school than the new stuff).

Karlifornia was an easy one, it's the same for him on myspace atm;)

DanGarion 04-22-2006 08:59 AM

So what after 2000 posts we can change our user name at will?

CraigSca 04-22-2006 09:05 AM

Why would people do that, anyway?

Actually, they can't do it at will. They ask. I have no idea why. Quite often, I get the rather cryptic explanation of something along the lines of "this screen name has tired itself out."

Buccaneer 04-22-2006 09:45 AM

Frog, good catch.

At least Bucc will still be Bucc. Oh wait....

OK, since I haven't figured out these three, can somebody buy me a clue?

Young Drachma 04-22-2006 10:40 AM

If I'd realize the ire these sorts of things caused, I'd probably have been less likely to do it. I just did it on a whim and it was something I'd thought about for ages, but never knew was possible. So when I knew it was, I just wrote SkyDog a 5,000 treatise and he changed on the condition that I never write a PM that long to anyone, ever again.

Ok, so I didn't.

But like I said, had I know my changing it would've been part of this whole "Who the f is this person? or Why the heck would you wanna do that?" furor, well..I'd have just stayed DC and been done with it. What can I say? peer pressure is a bitch.

Joe 04-22-2006 10:48 AM

change it back

oooh or can I change my name to Dark Cloud since that name is available now? Although, I am tempted to make a switch to MIJB#18.

Cap Ologist 04-22-2006 10:53 AM

I thought you could only change your name if you bought one of SkyDog's cd's ;)

cthomer5000 04-22-2006 10:55 AM

Probably the dumbest trend sweeping FOFC.

Maple Leafs 04-22-2006 10:57 AM

Can I change to Subby? I hear it's available.

Please me more specific. Is the dumbest trend the name changes, or people buying skydog's CDs?

Dibs on Dave Dial

The word "trend" implies more than one person doing it.

It's a good thing I reserved MIJB19 already.

Also, I think I forgot to list MacroGuy in the initial post. :D

Bad-example 04-22-2006 01:02 PM

Perhaps posting in an official name change announcement thread, linked in the reference thread, would be a useful prerequisite when taking a new handle...?

It's the barbed wire tatoo of FOFC

Schmidty 04-22-2006 02:19 PM

Other than Dark Cloud, I don't know who the other two are.

Schmidty 04-22-2006 02:21 PM

Oh wait, I know who Chris is.

KWhit 04-22-2006 02:40 PM

So who is Karlifornia?

Karlifornia 04-22-2006 02:42 PM

I've wanted to have a new name for the longest time, but I didn't know it was possible until I saw SkyDog had altered ApatheticLurker's name. After Dark Cloud's name changed, I realized that I could change mine. I guess I just got tired of RadioFriendlyUnitShifter..it was long and clumsy.

Why not just RFUS? Not long and clumsy.

I thought about that after SkyDog changed it....but now I don't want to bug him again. But that isn't a bad idea, Cuervo.

tanglewood 04-22-2006 03:11 PM

Why change your name anyway? Kalifornia looks stupid. :)

tanglewood 04-22-2006 03:12 PM

dola

If you change to RFUS I'll refer to you as Rufus all the time. Dunno if that's a positive or a negative.

Toddzilla 04-22-2006 03:40 PM

I don't have anywhere near 3,000 posts, but I'll bet SD would let me change my username if I picked something dope like "Rakim" ;)

CraigSca 04-22-2006 03:46 PM

I just think the whole thing is retarded.

No offense, but Karlifornia sounds so... blah. RadioFriendlyUnitShifter has personality... I like your old name better.

S'ok. It's like the movies. The sequel is always under appreciated. I mean, who saw Pet Semetary II? :)

When I created a new name for Subby, I created another user account as a placeholder for his old name so nobody else could use it.

The problem with the namechanges for me is that the handle is pretty much how I "recognize" people. I can eventually glen who is typing a post by their style...sometimes, but it's not easy. Hence the confusion.

Maybe we can get a list of who is who, or was who, in this thread? For easy reference?

Agreed. And who is glen?

I have the same problem, you see the username and associate facts you know about the person, maybe even a picture or something visual to help you.

There's this guy at my karate school who also changed his name in real life. Just had it done. Darn it's tough to address him by his new name, but at least I see his face when I talk to him, that's not the case here...

FM

Joe 04-22-2006 05:29 PM

another forum I'm on allows name changes until the person has 1,000 posts, thinking that you have created an identity for yourself by that time.

Dola,

And does anyone else keep getting shoved to FM's post (#4) every time they click on this thread

Edit... and apparently when they post in this thread?
