Convertibles?

Question time again... I searched the forum and saw no related thread, so I decided to create one.

The question is: what are a person's options if they want to buy an affordable convertible?

I'm talking used, and no more than $20,000Cdn. I know of VW Cabrios (which aren't made anymore), but that's as far as my knowledge goes. And no, Cavalier and Sunfire convertibles aren't options. :)

Any FOFC members with knowledge about convertibles?

I have a Miata which I bought new for about $20K US. The Toyota Spyder is the main competitor. They are both great handlers. But they're also both tiny cars and not so great in winter weather.

As for affordable 4-seaters, you might be able to get a Mitsubishi Eclipse for under $20K used. Also, Sebring convertibles get you a lot of bang for the buck. They remind me of the old-school 50s open top boats...

The beetle and mini-coopers also have convertible versions, but I'm not sure how pricey they will be...

How old are you willing to consider? Maybe a 3-series BMW convertible from a few years ago might be an option...

On the 3 series you'll have to go back several years. They hold their value very well.

Very true. My first car was a used 3-series from '85. The thing lasted 15 years (and it would have gone more, if I didn't crash it)...

We have a convert, VW Bug and we love it. They start at about 24k. We got one fully loaded for 30k.

Get one of those PT Cruiser convertables.
