No, it is never too early to get overexcited about a GTA game :)

Thinking back, I first became interested in this game back when this was overhead view. GOURANGA! :)

I am not terribly excited about this, to be honest. I really felt that GTA3 was brilliant, and Vice City a substantial upgrade. San Adreas, though good, didn't quite reach, for me, the level of the first two. And it is a VERY long time away, especially as I buy these for my PC.

People tend to get hung up on the violence in the game but it's really more about the freedom, the amount of cool cars that are all unique and the great mechanics of the driving system that's always appealed to me, the great soundtrack helps too. There are zero games that capture even close to that kind of fun.

I played the first and second one, but quickly got bored with the driving and beating up bums and stuff. Just not my thing, but I've never really heard a reason why other people like it.

Well if you played GTA 1 and 2 you haven't played GTA. The first modern GTA was GTA 3, followed by Vice City and San Andreas. Among other things they added a movie quality storyline....atleast in Vice City and San Andreas.

I think we viewed the games very different. I felt GTA3 was great, but it was probably the "wow" factor that they actually did what they did. Then I tired to play Vice City but could not get into it. I don't know why, however I played the crap out of San Andreas and actually ended up finishing it like I did GTA 3. Vice City I probably played for 5 hours tops, just wasn't my thing.

I felt the same about the three games. I think the problem with San Andreas (SA) was that it was TOO long. SA didn't have the natural flow that GTA3 or VC had for me. I think it may have just gotten too big to keep it going. I'd rather prefer a more fleshed out single city with some more indoors missions as well.

By 1 and 2, I meant GTA3 and the one after that.

Can't get excited until I know what setting they are using. I'd like to see an Asian setting with a Tokyo and a Hong Kong.

Though I can be excited just knowing a new GTA game is coming out :D.

I wouldn't mind them doing London again, though (the pre-GTA3 series had one of those).

For me, I like a lot of things about the recent series:

- the freedom to ignore the plot and just fuck around in the world without losing your place in the story;
- the open world environment than encourages you to explore it;
- the various driving options, not just cars but motorcycles, boats, airplanes, helicopters and jetpacks
- the humor in the game, both in the radio station soundtracks and in some of the cut scenes;
- the variety of mini-games;

While they don't seem to do any one particular thing better than anyone else - for example, the driving in GTA isn't nearly as sophisticated as driving-specific games, but it's good enough to be fun, and fighting and shooting is very simple compared to combat games, but is again good enough to be fun - they do a lot of things well.

Good summary. GTA doesn't do one thing better than all other games (except perhaps freedom of gameworld), but it does a lot of different things very good. The freedom of the gameworld really attracts me and I enjoy the driving, the risque plot, the humor, and the different ways to complete a mission.

I read in one of the gaming mags that (supposedly) they are going to tone the game down quite a bit after the Hot Coffee 'scandal'. I have my doubts about this, but, if they did, I can't imagine it would be as good as the past couple offerings.

I actually liked GTA and GTA2 more than the "modern" versions, although Vice City kept me entertained for about 3 hours. Now that the XBox version of San Andreas is $19.99, I'll probably buy it and play a little bit, but I'm never paying $49.99 for a GTA game again. I just don't get that much fun out of them.

I'm looking forward to it, I just hope they surprise us with the plot a bit. Every GTA, including the PSP verson, all have the same storylines. It's time to alter that part of it a bit. Great game though. It'll be interesting to see what happens with the graphics and the cities. The cities need more life. Great series though.
