PureSim Baseball 2007 Demo

OK, we are releasing a demo later this week, and as a gift to FOFC'ers I'd like to post that I have a BETA demo available for download. So, if you were on the fence with PureSim 2007 give this a try.. Again, its not the official demo, but you are big boys :)

(LINK REMOVED -- WE'RE GETTING READY TO RELEASE THE OFFICIAL DEMO THIS WEEK -- THANKS FOR HAVING A LOOK AT THE BETA)

I'm especially interested in uncovering any serious issues so I can tweak the "public" release of the demo.

I hope you like it!

chinaski 05-21-2006 09:34 PM

woohoo!

Shaun Sullivan 05-21-2006 09:42 PM

Gotta take this down for a bit... Got crushed and there is an issue. Coming soon :)

chinaski 05-21-2006 09:49 PM

uh oh, ive already dl'd, installed and the draft is running :)

chinaski 05-21-2006 09:50 PM

hopefully the issue is "oops, i put up the full version!"

MrBug708 05-21-2006 09:54 PM

Damn...I was 97% done...

Very much looking forward to the demo. Any chance of it going back up tonight?

Bad-example 05-21-2006 10:43 PM

Thanks Shaun. I will try the demo in the coming days. Looking forward to it.

Shaun Sullivan 05-21-2006 11:41 PM

Shaun Sullivan 05-21-2006 11:42 PM

BTW, did you guys notice the link got shortened to pu..lease

:)

jbmagic 05-22-2006 12:58 AM

I really don't care.

"Does anybody have impressions of all this stuff? I don't want to buy the game until there's a demo I can try."

"Can anybody tell me if this stuff is in the demo? I don't want to download it and try it until somebody holds my hand."

At some point, dude's got to cowboy up or get off the damn horse.

moriarty 05-22-2006 08:43 AM

Sweet, thanks Shaun. I'll be downloading tonight.

Terps 05-22-2006 09:11 AM

Nice! Downloading it now.

CraigSca 05-22-2006 11:11 AM

Played it. Purchased it :). Any idea when the released version will be 1.1 too? I feel weird buying it and going back to a previous version.

lafan825 05-22-2006 11:32 AM

Shaun,
When I click on game manual the pdf file is from the Puresim Basaeball 2005 Gold Edition. Is the manual the same for Puresim BB 2007?

Terps 05-22-2006 12:40 PM

Can you not save in the demo or am I just not seeing where it's at?

chinaski 05-22-2006 12:46 PM

seems like it autosaves, maybe on exit and after each sim?

SirFozzie 05-22-2006 01:19 PM

autosaves/backups

TroyF 05-22-2006 01:28 PM

Saving was one of my questions. It auto saves and does it often.

You do have the ability to move the file away to replay a game if you so choose.

there won't be a lot of "damn, my star got hurt, I'm reloading from last save point" in this one.

chinaski 05-22-2006 01:36 PM

one thing that threw me off was starting a new league. Does it always auto draft and assign you a team?

SirFozzie 05-22-2006 01:40 PM

Nope, you can use PureSIM Classic (without the quickstart) and it will ask what teams you want to be NON-CPU controlled

tucker rocky 05-22-2006 05:39 PM

I DL'ed last night, but wasn't able play, as sleepy time came up.

I will play tonight and see what I like and don't like.

I may have to tone down with less teams, as auto-draft takes awhile for 30 teams.

Shaun Sullivan 05-22-2006 06:21 PM

So, what's the word folks? Love it? Hate it? In between?

I need to know what the FOFC crowd thinks.

Bea-Arthurs Hip 05-22-2006 06:42 PM

I wll be buying this in the near future. I am playing with the demo right now and am enjoying it, although it is taking some time getting used to the interface as I have always played OOTP. Great work Shawn!

PadresFan104 05-22-2006 06:49 PM

I will assume that the demo allows you to customize the experience with logos, photos, and ballpark files. If that's the case, please drop by my new website and see what's available.

http://web.mac.com/sixwilsons/iWeb/P...Mods/Main.html

Logos:
- Doesn't matter where you put 'em. You assign logos to each team through the Front Office screen for each team.

Ballparks:
- Doesn't matter where you put 'em either. You click on "Ballpark" from the team screen, then select "Edit" and finally "Import."

Face Packs:
- Download these images into the Puresim/mods/faces directory. Each decade has it's own folder. Then fire up the game and go into "Options" from the Home screen and tell the game you want to auto-assign photos to the players. There's even generic photos in two of the available face packs if you are running a fictional league.

Al

CraigSca 05-22-2006 06:51 PM

I just started playing today. I love the fact it creates its own ballparks. After taking over my Oklahoma City team I found that I am DEFINITELY in a pitcher's park. It's kind of fun to see my pitchers do well and watch my batters struggle. I plan to play late into the night tonight.

Rich1033 05-22-2006 06:53 PM

I will be buying in the future, just dont have the funds now. Great work.

tucker rocky 05-22-2006 07:04 PM

So far so good.
I'm leaning towards getting the full copy.

If I do get the full copy, are there any updates that I should get?

or

Is it updated if I DL?

Ksyrup 05-22-2006 08:12 PM

I d/l'd the demo and am messing around with it. Quick question...can we alter the initial league settings later in the game? For instance - and this is my main concern - is it possible to start a league with real players in 1920, auto-sim until 1975, then turn on free agency/financials, etc., to mirror real life? Or, do I have to create the league with financials/free agency on in order to have it later in the game?

I see the Puresim Basaeball 2005 Gold Edition manual too.

Ksyrup 05-22-2006 09:00 PM

Looking at the almanac after the first season ends...in the career records, the players shouldn't have teams next to their names, should they? That doesn't seem appropriate for career records. Single-season, sure.

Ksyrup 05-22-2006 09:04 PM

I think I recall prior versions of PS allowing minor leagues to sim like major league games. Is that still available? I didn't see the games simming, and I couldn't find an option to sim them.

Bee 05-23-2006 06:09 AM

I downloaded the demo and played around some last night. A couple questions and a comment.

Is there an easy way to get rid of the year after everyone's name when starting a real player league and importing drafts?

Can you start a season say in 1955 and have all the records and player career stats imported? I ran a 1955 league but there were no career records or career stats. I was expecting the game to import all of that info from the Lahman's database.

My comment was that I had one minor issue with the AI. During free agency I went out and signed a bunch of starting pitchers ( for some reason there was a ton of quality starters available and no one seemed interested). I was then able to trade some of them for very high quality position players. For example, I traded a couple of the free agent pitchers for Mickey Mantle who had led the league in almost every category the year before. It seemed like an easy exploit if you can sign players no one wants in free agency and then trade them away for the valuable players.

No, the stats are produced OOTP-like now.

CraigSca 05-23-2006 07:17 AM

One thing that has to be changed - pitcher splits are only shown in typical hitting-style statistics. Splits need to be shown as standard pitching statistics (IP, H, R, ER, W, K, ERA).

I'm not sure I agree on that. I usually think of splits being shown more like I am doing it. Maybe because I am use to ESPN.com Have a look here:

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/player...?playerId=4242

Thanks for the feedback. I *do* want to expand the available splits so I'll do some more research.

moriarty 05-23-2006 07:44 AM

Downloaded last night and played with no glaring problems (nice) ohter than the manual being the wrong version as others noted..

I haven't dug too deep yet (haven't messed with the trade AI) but so far it looks very good. Thanks for making the demo available Shaun - it should certainly help improve sales.

While I agree the vs. Righty and vs. Lefty stats probably should use the batting stats, I think the April, May, June, etc. and last 7 days would be better served showing pitching stats. I sim one week at a time, and I like to see how my pitchers did for the week. For me, seeing 7 IP, 5 H, 2 R, etc. is much more intuitive than seeing something like 26 AB, 5 Hits, etc.

Agree. The lefty/righty splits should show the batting stats, the month/week/last ten starts type splits should show pitching numbers.

Ksyrup 05-23-2006 08:23 AM

I tend to agree with Craig and Troy. Splits involving certain types of hitters or game situations should be batting stats, but weekly/monthly stats should be pitching stats.

I remember there being an option for this as you start up the league. I started a league in 1912 and was able to turn it off. Can't say exactly where it was, but the option is in there.

dervack 05-23-2006 11:07 AM

Yeah, it's a check box towards the bottom of the screen. I'm liking the demo so far Shaun, Great work on Puresim.

Yeah, that bothers me because whenever you start a league, like I started one in '75 w/ the O's, all the players have that year as their debut year. It messes up awards too, because Dave Kingman won the Rookie Of The Year in my sim.

rdomico 05-23-2006 02:35 PM

What features are disabled in the demo? Can you play an entire season?

Terps 05-23-2006 02:49 PM

I've only gone through 1975 and the offseason in my sim, not sure how long you can play. You can start in 1975, 1986, and I forget the other 2 years.
