XTC versus Adam Ant

Only one will survive.

John Galt 05-31-2006 10:49 AM

XTC is tons better than Adam Ant.

Passacaglia 05-31-2006 10:51 AM

Awesome poll. I'm the singer of Bow Wow Wow.

Butter 05-31-2006 11:01 AM

Adam Ant might have won if he wasn't completely off his rocker now.

Can't make up your mind, eh?

Beatle-based pop versus New Romantic, History will decide

XTC all the way on this one. And the poll itself further solidifes my confidence in Quik's taste in music.

SelzShoes 05-31-2006 11:05 AM

Adam Ant was a lot of fun, but XTC made great (if at times a bit haughty) music.

Franklinnoble 05-31-2006 11:13 AM

Never heard of XTC.

Oanges and Lemons and Nonesuch are both on my itunes right now.

No vote on the poll...but I really want to go home now and bust out all the TMBG I haven't listened to in years...

Mustang 05-31-2006 11:45 AM

Gotta vote for Stuart

Pumpy Tudors 05-31-2006 11:47 AM

This is the strangest bit of data mining he's ever done.

JonInMiddleGA 05-31-2006 12:08 PM

My feeling is similar but I'd have to change the word "years" to "hours"

path12 05-31-2006 01:12 PM

I appreciate XTC, but damn, Adam Ant was just fun!

And I think it's a plus that he was actually crazy. So many just fake it.

Schmidty 05-31-2006 01:14 PM

I remember the names of the groups, but can't recall anything specific. Can anyone tell me some names of their more well-known songs?

XTC didn't really break into the mainstream to the extent that Adam Ant did. The songs you might know by XTC include the Ballad of Peter Pumpkinhead and Dear God. My favorite songs by XTC are Making Plans for Nigel, Senses Working Overtime, and Dear God. They were a very influential band that had more mainstream success in the UK than the US (they are a British Band). They actually stopped performing live for many years because their lead singer, Andy Partridge, developed horrible stage fright.

Ugh. I forgot Mayor of Simpleton. That is the song most people would probably know. I'm not so bright.

st.cronin 05-31-2006 04:14 PM

My wife and my dead wife both prefer(ed) XTC.

Dola,

But reading the rest of the thread I know Making Plans For Nigel. Still, my Adam Ant vote stands.

Would it be inappropriate to reveal I used to pretend to be Adam Ant as a kid, making the white stripe across the bridge of the nose and under the eyes with tape?

timmynausea 05-31-2006 04:57 PM

Just when you think it's finished...

TargetPractice6 05-31-2006 08:01 PM

With XTC on top?

Groundhog 05-31-2006 08:06 PM

Can't we kill them both?

clintl 05-31-2006 08:41 PM

XTC is a great band. I like Adam Ant, too, but his best work is only as good as third-rate XTC.

QuikSand 10-25-2016 12:33 PM

so much fun

Suicane75 10-25-2016 12:52 PM

XTC.

It's depressing reading threads and thinking, Oh, so and so is back and posting, awesome. Only to realize it's from a friggin decade ago.

Bobble 10-26-2016 07:13 AM

XTC. Adam Ant was a bit of a ... Goody Two-Shoes...

Thanks for necroing so I could FINALLY get that joke in!
