Steelers' Ugly Super Bowl Rings

Groundhog 06-05-2006 09:07 PM

I dunno, I sort of like it, particular the Steelers colours on the stars.

Not something I'd wear personally, but then, I didn't win the superbowl either. ;)

RendeR 06-05-2006 09:23 PM

Ugliest hardware I've ever seen.

oliegirl 06-05-2006 09:29 PM

As a rule SB rings aren't exactly attractive, are they? They are always big and gawdy and just too flashy...

Neither did they.... ;)

Logan 06-05-2006 09:37 PM

I don't see any problem with the ring.

Except the fact that it apparently says:

LASTNAME
(NFL Shield)
FIRSTNAME

That's stupid.

For the players it has their number in place of the NFL shield.

panerd 06-05-2006 09:49 PM

Does Jeff Gillooly, I mean Kimo von Oelhoffen, get a ring or just a stick?

:D:D:D

What bothers me about these rings is the five trophies.

I can understand referencing multiple trophies if the majority of the team has won them, and they're identified as the same bunch of guys (more or less).

But this makes it seem like Cowher and company get credit somehow for Super Bowls that were won before most of the current team was even born. I mean, why don't they find a few pre-merger titles to tack on there while they're at it?

Hurst2112 06-06-2006 04:38 AM

all SB rings are ugly. You wear one, it's gonna be ugly no matter what.

Only thing uglier would have been a Seahawks SB ring.

Ugly ring for an ugly win. ;)

I agree completely. Maybe Dan Rooney should have a ring with five trophies but that's it.

vex 06-06-2006 07:48 AM

I like it.

Pumpy Tudors 06-06-2006 08:01 AM

I don't mind the five trophies on the ring. The Steelers have won five Super Bowls as a franchise, and these were the guys who earned the fifth.

With that said, as an enemy fan in Steeler Country, I am getting tired of the phrase "One for the Thumb", which I have seen pretty much everywhere for months now. Since the players don't have five rings, and the fans don't have five rings, does this mean that all this talk is about Dan Rooney's thumb?

I'm cool with the fans celebrating five championships. It's quite an accomplishment for their franchise. I think I'm just tired of the whole "one for the thumb" thing, especially since I've even heard Steelers players reference it. Dan Rooney wants to talk about his five rings? Fine. The fans want to talk about the Steelers' five rings? Great. The players want to reference five rings? Get the hell off Charles Haley's property.

Pumpy Tudors 06-06-2006 08:03 AM

By the way, I'm a St. Louis Cardinals fan, and I can't wait for us to get that 10th World Series title!!! Yadier Molina is gonna have bling all up on BOTH his hands! TAKE THAT!!!!!

I had a "One for the Thumb in '81" shirt.

stevew 06-06-2006 09:03 AM

At least the Bengals will always have their AFC North Champ hats.

Pumpy Tudors 06-06-2006 09:05 AM

Chris Henry just got a new pair of gold embossed handcuffs for his latest arrest.

Don't worry. Santonio can catch up with him, I'm SURE of it. :)

Huckleberry 06-06-2006 10:05 AM

Now that Dallas, Pittsburgh, and San Francisco all have the one for the thumb, I hesitate to ask where the 6th ring will go.

That reminds me of a letterman bit back after the Theisman injury. He had a Joe Theissman Pencil sharpener. You grabbed the foot and spun the leg to sharpen the pencil.

Don't forget Dick Hoak. He's been the running backs coach for the Steelers since 1972. He also has five rings. :-)

I think it's much better with the # in place of the first name. I don't know why, but just seeing something like "Ben" or "Jerome" on a SB ring strikes me as juvenile.

stevew 06-07-2006 05:20 AM

I wonder how the hell they fit Roethlisburger on the side of the ring. I wonder if his says "Big Ben" or something like that.

Jewelry on men is about as gay as it gets. Might as well wear a t-shirt with two unicorns making friendship bracelets out of rainbows.
