FOFC Highlander #14 - Dat Boy Run So Good - RESULTS POSTED

It's Highlander time! Today, we visit the gridiron to meet star running back Richie "Rib Eye" Ribblett of the Richmond Rickshaws. Over the past five years, Richie has become known as the best running back in his semi-pro league, and he is hoping that an NFL team will notice him and give him a tryout. Historically, Richie's performances have gone as follows:

In 5% of his team's games, he rushes for 40-60 yards.
25% of the games, 95-105 yards
50% of the games, 150-155 yards
10% of the games, 170-175 yards
5% of the games, 200-210 yards
In the other 5% of his team's games, he is injured and cannot play.

Richie is about to start his sixth season in Richmond, and he knows that this is probably his final chance to impress the NFL scouts before he's considered too old or too run-down to be effective. His team plays 16 games, and his chance of success in each game is based on his historical performance. For example, each week, he has a 5% chance of gaining 40-60 yards, a 25% chance of gaining 95-105 yards, and so on. There's also a 5% chance that he is too injured to play each week. Given these numbers, my question to you is...

At the end of 16 games, how many total rushing yards has Richie gained?

Please PM me with your guess. The closest to the actual total is the winner. Everybody else LOSES! I'll run the game for about 6 hours, until 4:30 Eastern time, maybe a few minutes later.

If any clarification is needed, feel free to ask here in the thread. As usual, I'll be checking the thread pretty much all day.

Is there an equal chance of each value within the range, or do you want us to give you a range as our answer?

There's an equal chance of each value within the range. For example, if he rushes for 40-60 yards, the chance is the same that it could be 40 yards or 47 yards or 53 yards or anything else within the range.

As for the answer, I'm looking for a single number, not a range.

I would have beat you with my initial guess of "2-999,999" :)

Given his breakdowns, he'd better make an NFL roster. Either that or the run defenses in his league just flat out suck. 65% chance of gaining 150 yards in a game? Yikes.

Sent, BTW.

I love playing games I can't win. Snet.

Richie Ribblett had another great season for Richmond. His rushing totals for each game were as follows:

1 - 210
2 - 100
3 - 151
4 - 99
5 - 53
6 - 155
7 - 150
8 - 153
9 - 49
10 - 97
11 - 150
12 - 152
13 - 151
14 - 207
15 - 153

Unfortunately, he injured himself late in the 15th game and had to sit out the final week of the season. His season-ending injury turned off the scouts, and that brings Richie's NFL dream to an end. Good old "Rib Eye" can probably still dominate the semi-pro league next year, though. :)

His season total was 2,030 rushing yards. The player with the closest guess and winner of FOFC Highlander #14 is

BrianD

His guess was 2,049 yards. Many of the other players had close guesses, but there's only one winner. The rest of you LOSE!

Congrats, BrianD!

WooHoo. I'll get another one ready for tomorrow.

Wolfpack 06-07-2006 10:09 PM

Dadgummit. Had to go and get injured. By my math, if he ran his season average the next game, it'd have been awful close to what I picked.

I really want to win. I have such a neat game lined up.
