World Cup Internet Viewing

Hey all,

I know others have asked this, but I don't know if anyone has come up with an answer.

I don't have TiVo and I live on the west coast working a normal 9-5 job. Which is awful if you're a footy fan wanting to watch the Cup. For instance, locally, Germany-Costa Rica is being shown at 9 a.m tomorrow, and then 2 p.m. and then 4 p.m.. I won't be able to get/be home for any of them. And then I'm not showing it being shown anymore.

So does anyone have a good site and online programming where I can watch the matches when I want, at night? Like a livestream kinda thing, like MLB has or something like that? I don't mind paying either, so it doesn't have to be free. And, no, I'm not interested in trying to fool Internet watchdogs that I am Brazillian and want thir feed. :)

Thanks in advance.

SirFozzie 06-08-2006 09:36 PM

How about Faking the BBC out? :)

(england's putting it on broadband free)

No?

Sorry man, you're out of luck

Critch 06-08-2006 10:33 PM

I know this isn't any use to you, but I have to boast. My company is getting Comcast in tomorrow to fit our office with cable to we can watch the World Cup at work :)

MrBug708 06-08-2006 10:37 PM

There is a Brazilian company doing it but I cant remember where I saw it

bbor 06-08-2006 10:38 PM

i'm looking for the same:(

DaddyTorgo 06-08-2006 10:53 PM

is there any company streaming it over the internet as audio?

Chief Rum 06-08-2006 10:55 PM

ESPN360 seems to be doing it. But not every ISP is providing this. Mine (Adelphia) is. I haven't checked into it too much yet, but definitely going to, probably here before I go to bed.

finketr 06-09-2006 09:08 AM

slingbox on your home tv/network.

MikeVic 06-09-2006 09:11 AM

I'd also like World Cup streaming audio....

www.talksport.co.uk are apparently streaming commentary for all games not involving England.

It's based in England, so I'm sure they'll manage to mention 1966 and Rooney's sore hoof during every match anyway.

Fidatelo 06-09-2006 10:06 AM

I would kill for some internet cup coverage. I'll check out that audio link but video would be the cats ass.

Is it working now? I'm getting some old highlights and some voice saying something like: "Due to contractual obligations, we are unable to provide our scheduled programming."

It was doing the game and now it seems to have cut away.

SirFozzie 06-09-2006 11:14 AM

FIFA won't allow em to broadcast the game outside of England

John Galt 06-09-2006 11:16 AM

So, does anyone know of any other free audio out there? I'd love to listen while I work.

SirFozzie 06-09-2006 11:17 AM

I'm trying, trust me! :D

I'm even looking for pirate stations at this point :D

Apparently they've been blocked inside the UK now too. They had to cancel covering the Poland v Ecuador game.

RPI-Fan 06-10-2006 08:20 AM

Chief Rum:

It's not live, but you can download torrents of the games after they're over. AIM me KNSmith85 for more info if you desire.

Passacaglia 06-10-2006 11:33 AM

So we're resolved there's no streaming video?

cartman 06-11-2006 10:16 AM

For those that want to go old-school, there is a live ASCII streaming of the games:

hxxp://www.ascii-wm.net/#

:D

Actually that's exactly what I am looking for. I can't watch when they happen--I'm at work. But if I can avoid the reports and watch it later, that's what I want to do.

I'm not on AIM too often, so if you could PM here, I would appreciate it. If not, though, let me know and I will see if I can get on some. Thanks!

DaddyTorgo 06-11-2006 07:58 PM

I'm hooked up to CCTV5 through TVAnts, but it's a bit spotty...is it the best option, though?

I disconnected from the first CCTV feed as it was trying to connect at ~900 kb/s. Now I'm connected at 283 kb/s using the second feed listed at tvants.com.

Godzilla Blitz 06-12-2006 10:55 AM

So we can see the US game using the TVAnts and CCTV5?

Breaks in and out. It was the 900 kb/s connection you mentioned...I'll try the other one and hopefully it'll be a more steady stream.

Yes. And I was half expecting you to say, "Why are you speaking in Japanese, dumbass?" since CCTV is Chinese.

Thanks...this one is much better. Less quality, but better stream.

Godzilla Blitz 06-12-2006 11:55 AM

What an awesome world we live in! Up and running with Chinese tv! Thanks, this'll work great.

Missed most of the USA-Czech first half, but it sounds like that may have been a good thing.

Fidatelo 06-20-2006 12:09 PM

I'm thinking of downloading this TVAnts thing for the England/Sweden match this afternoon, but I'm worried about Spyware. I did some quick google searching and couldn't find many comments on it, any thoughts from the users here? Is this a safe/good method for catching the games?

Sometimes.

Flasch186 06-20-2006 01:31 PM

hmmm, well i installed the TVant program but NOT the activeX controls so hopefully thats some measure of intelligence on my part...and I must say, Jeff, thanks. I am very excited about being able to watch England here in a half hour when I didnt think there was any hope at all.

ISiddiqui 06-20-2006 02:29 PM

Just found some internet radio, courtesy of The Sun, broadcasting the WC:

http://clients.mediaondemand.net/theSun/?Channel=1

Though I guess when there are simultaneous games, they just pick the 'bigger' one.

Fidatelo 06-20-2006 03:16 PM

I went ahead and installed TVAnts but can't get it to work. I loaded up a channel and waited forever before it finally stopped buffering, but now all I get is some flashing adds and a bunch of characters that can't be displayed unless I install the Chinese language pack. I can't do that, so am I screwed? Shouldn't I be able to watch a feed without installing the chinese fonts?

Critch 06-20-2006 06:36 PM

hxxp://www.11football.com/coupedumonde2006/

Not live coverage, but streams of all the goals.

Joe 06-20-2006 06:55 PM

try this player

hxxp://www.tvunetworks.com/downloads/TVUPlayer.zip

it picks up ESPN, ESPN2, and ABC so you're covered on the channels.

Flasch186 06-21-2006 09:14 AM

brilliant!!
