Men & lotion

I was wondering if lotion is a common thing in a man's life, and does the need grow as you get older? For the first time in my life, today, I am in need of putting lotion on one of my heels. It is cracking like the dickens and actually the cracking hurts. So I put some lotion on it (Ashley's Vanilla Bean Noel Body Lotion) and Im wondering if thats going to do any good. Do any of you use lotion for dry skin? Is it a fix that works well? How metrosexual is the use of lotion? Do you have any recommendations?

:) but Im serious

Normally I would say no, but for someone who actually uses the phrase "like the dickens"...I suppose it would be all right.

ThunderingHERD 06-15-2006 03:51 PM

They make medicated creams specifically for this sort of thing. Flexitol Heel Balm comes to mind.

Lathum 06-15-2006 03:51 PM

I only use lotion for one thing...

so lots of people's heels crack!? I did not know that.

SelzShoes 06-15-2006 03:58 PM

When my wife had a Candy Bouquet franchise she used a product called "Crack Cream" for her hands. It wasn't as thick as a lotion, but helped her hands from drying/callusing (sp?).

JeeberD 06-15-2006 04:07 PM

I used to use lotion back with I worked at Wendy's. Often I worked the back cash register, and one of my duties was washing dishes. Well during the winter time that was absolute hell...sticking wet hands outside the drive thru window to take money got them chapped in no time flat. So I had to lotion the suckers up all the time, despite the fact that I hate using lotion...

Coffee Warlord 06-15-2006 04:07 PM

This thread will not end well.

The Drummonds went on vacation and took a tour of the movie studio where they met Kitt and Micheal Knight.

flere-imsaho 06-15-2006 04:12 PM

A guy can use lotion if, for instance, he's in a situation like the one Jeeber describes. Otherwise yes, it's a metrosexual activity. I expect you to start accessorizing any day now.

Arlie's heels crack something awful. It got so bad that when his feet would rub up against my legs in bed, he'd scrape skin off. Tried to convince him to get a pedicure, but apparently that's girly. So he agreed to use special heel balm. Gold Bond heel balm I think. Works pretty well.

Flasch186 06-15-2006 06:28 PM

im buying some tonight on my way to dad's house (8 in the am and 8 in the pm for prayers for grandpa...Im not religious [much] but grandpa was so its out of respect for him) cuz my heels have cracked even more since I started this thread...probably due to my picking at it but man its nasty.

Izulde 06-15-2006 06:33 PM

I'd say try the medicated heel lotion and also try a less expensive body lotion that's got good moisturizing quality. If the cheaper option works fine, then you can save yourself some money.

Get a pumice stone too. Before you go to bed tonight, soak your feet in hot water for about ten minutes and use the stone to scrub the dead skin off your heels once the skin gets soft. Then lotion those puppies up and throw some thick socks on. In the morning your heels will be 10x better.

Groundhog 06-15-2006 06:38 PM

It puts the lotion on its skin, or it gets the hose again.

Hurst2112 06-15-2006 07:00 PM

no jokes please....

only my left knuckles dry out in the winter. something strange.

Also, while not in the compulsive manner as prince, I tend to wash my hands a lot durin the day. this tend to dry them out in the winter. I usually use whatever anybody has cheap.

lastly...i learned a trick from my mom. when i scrape an elbow, knee, etc, instead of putting a band aid over it, i let it breath. when it scabs, i apply lotion (without perfume or irritants) on it about 3 times a day. does wonders for scarring.

Glengoyne 06-15-2006 07:10 PM

My initial feeling was that men only use Lotion for a handful of things.

After reading your specific problem I reccomend either Hoofmaker or Bag Balm. Both are products that can be found at your local feed and tack store. Oddly enough Bag Balm is not used for what you think it is, but you're not far off.

Odd.
Though Bag Balm is too greasy for me (never tried Hoofmaker).
For most "stubborn" dryness of the hands (and legs for me, after I shave), I use the Aveeno lotions.

And I second Farrah's recommendations about the heels.

Reading this thread makes me want to go get a pedicure.

Draft Dodger 06-15-2006 08:15 PM

I've got no issues with dudes using lotion. personally, I almost never do, because I can't stand the feel of lotion on my skin. chapstick is even worse.

This is the most disgusting thread I have read in like 3 hours.

miami_fan 06-15-2006 08:27 PM

Am I the only guy with dry skin? I can't stand the ashy skin.

I agree about Bag Balm. Just mentioning it actually because I thought it would add some humor to the thread. In a "He said Bag Balm" Kinda way.

Hoof Maker is good stuff though.

Greyroofoo 06-15-2006 08:32 PM

I know a guy that needs a lot of lotion, then again he's in Qatar right now..........

cuervo72 06-15-2006 08:45 PM

I will use Jergens or the like on my hands in the winter, as my knuckles crack and bleed. It's not pretty.

My right foot has been cracking for 15 years now (in cycles; it goes dormant, then comes back). It does need lotion sometimes, but most of the time I just deal with it.

That is all I use lotion for.

Vinatieri for Prez 06-15-2006 09:59 PM

Male use of lotion is only acceptable to treat acute/painful conditions, like some described here. Regular use on other unaffected parts simply to feel good and moist is highly suspect.

I'm okay with chapstick but I just can't stand the "greasy hand" feeling that most lotions give you... Even worse when I have to apply sun protection lotion to the kiddo before he goes to daycare. I have to wash and rinse my hands a couple times to take off the feeling...

My hands get really chapped and dry (to the point they will bleed) in the winter. I hate lotion, but it helps keeps them from reaching that point.

Okay, this thread must have been started by a white guy that does not know any black guys.

I love their body lotions. It's one of the only kinds that can keep my skin nice in this desert oven. Have you tried their sunscreen? It rocks.

I was about to post the same thing. He's obviously never heard someone complain about being "ashy". :)

I use Lubriderm after I shave my head to help keep razor bumps from forming.

Went to a very white HS, only had maybe three on the team (can't recall every sophomore from senior year...).

FOFC has become an odd place. People are posting on whether or not to buy lotion. Spend the $3 and see if it helps. This is certainly quite odd.

LOL!!! When my knees or elbows get ashy, I ask the wife to break out the ash repellent as she now understands to mean lotion.
