OT: All Movie Baseball Team

I am ever so bored and after seeing so many movies about baseball I feel this team could compete with the best of the best.

C: Jack Parkman (Major League)
1B: Clue Haywood (Major League)
2B: Ray Mitchell (Angels in the Outfield)
SS: Juan Lopez (Major League III)
3B: Roger Dorn (Major League)
LF: Lou Collins (Little Big League)
CF: Willy Mayes Hayes (Major League)
RF: Benny "the Jet" Rodriguez (the Sandlot)
DH: Roy Hobbs (The Natural)

SP: Mel Clark (Angels in the Outfield) - Pre lung cancer
MR: Chet Steadman (Rookie of the Year)
CL: Rick Vaughn (Major League)

A 3/4 of Parkman/Haywood is riviting.

lynchjm24 06-16-2006 04:55 PM

I'd add Ricky Ledee's excellent work in For the Love of the Game.

MikeVic 06-16-2006 04:55 PM

Awesome. Too bad I can't remember baseball movie players other than the ones you listed...

sovereignstar 06-16-2006 05:00 PM

Fuck Dorn. Couldn't we try and teach Jack Elliot (Mr. Baseball) 3rd?

DeToxRox 06-16-2006 05:05 PM

Dude Dorns a leader on the infield.

"Strike this fucker out"

Arctus 06-16-2006 05:09 PM

SP: Henry Wiggen (Bang the Drum Slowly)

Damn. Totally forgot that movie. Good call.

MikeVic 06-16-2006 05:10 PM

We need what's his name (Costner) from Bull Durham as a team leader. Wasn't Tim Robbins a good pitcher in that movie?

Crash Davis was a catcher who could lead but Parkman has pop.

And chicks dig the long ball.

st.cronin 06-16-2006 05:18 PM

Roy Hobbs bats cleanup, man.

Irrelevant Dude 06-16-2006 05:28 PM

I dont care if Parkman can hit, I want Rub as my starting catcher.

Franklinnoble 06-16-2006 05:30 PM

Can Tom Hanks manage?

"There's no crying in baseball!"

kcchief19 06-16-2006 05:35 PM

What position did Stan "Mr. 3000" Ross play? He was a Hall of Famer.

There was Darryl Palmer in the equally horrific film "The Slugger's Wife," who hit 62 homers in a season when that meant something. Billy Chapel from "For Love of the Game" was a true ace.

And let's not forget everybody from the Bingo Long Travelling All Stars.

Franklinnoble 06-16-2006 05:38 PM

What position did Wesley Snipes play in "The Fan?"

Can Wesley Snipes be on the team twice? Can Costner?

What about Brandon Fraser in "The Scout?"

HGH

AgustusM 06-16-2006 05:50 PM

I would take Crash at C for his leadership and besides Parkman was a prick.

at P I would have to go with Billy Chappell (for love of the game)

of course that is a little problematic since they are both the same guy (Costner)

AlexB 06-16-2006 05:52 PM

I'm no expert, but every time in Bull Durham Tim Robbins was told to hit the mascot, he did. So if you put the mascot as the guy just behind the plate (catcher?) you would get a strike every time, no?

Also you need Leslie Nielsen as umpire

You could go with Jake Taylor at C, if you want a good leader.

Coffee Warlord 06-16-2006 05:54 PM

1) CF - Willy Hayes (Major League)
2) SS - Benny "The Jet" Rodriguez (Sandlot)
3) RF - Roy Hobbs (The Natural)
4) LF - Pedro Cerrano (Major League)
5) 1B - Lou Collins (Little Big League)
6) 3B - Kelly Leak (Bad News Bears)
7) C - Crash Davis (Bull Durham)
8) 2B - Marla Hooch (League of Their Own)
9) P - Steve Nebraska (The Scout)

Manager - Jimmy Dugan (League of Their Own)

Benny takes short.

Franklinnoble 06-16-2006 05:56 PM

Crash Davis was in Bull Durham.

Marla Hooch? I mean, Jimmy Dugan, I get... but there's GOTTA be another 2B out there...

Coffee Warlord 06-16-2006 05:57 PM

Oh c'mon. She's more manly than half the people on that list.

What about the John Cusack character from 8 men out?

DeToxRox 06-16-2006 06:06 PM

I disagree on the manager.

Brian Dennehey from Summer Catch was a fucking Vet. He'd have to manage.

Jake Taylor could be bench coach.

Harry Doyle is PBP. No one can dispute this.

buck weaver played 3rd.

and CW, kelly lee is a center fielder, not a 3rd baseman

and starting at shortstop....tanner from the bad news bears (the kid that trips everyone that hits a home run as they go by)

saldana 06-16-2006 06:11 PM

and i want walter mathau as manager

AgustusM 06-16-2006 06:21 PM

I thought it was Kelly LEAK not Kelly Lee

Ramzavail 06-16-2006 06:26 PM

LF - Bobby Rayburn

oykib 06-16-2006 06:33 PM

Benny "the Jet" Rodriguez could play every position.

My SP would be Bingo Long and my C would be Leon Carter form Bingo Long's Traveling All-Stars and Motor Kings.

larrymcg421 06-16-2006 06:51 PM

Well if we're gonna include Eight Men Out, then you've got to have Cicotte, Jackson, and Weaver at least.

you are correct, sir!...all these years i thought it was kelly lee....which then begs the question for Coffee Warlord, who the hell is kelly lee?

Glengoyne 06-16-2006 07:03 PM

Come'on folks not near enough Eight Men Out mentionings

Ray Schalk Catcher
Shoeless Joe Jackson
Eddie Collins

Ed Cicotte Starting Pitcher

Lou Gehrig "Pride of the Yankees" He's got to play first.

Wasn't that Babe Ruth fellow in pride of the Yankees as well?

Oh and pencil Costner's character from "For the Love of the Game" into the rotation as well.

i think its more fun when we only use fictional characters, imo

sovereignstar 06-16-2006 07:08 PM

Well fuck, let's just add Roger Maris from 61 while we are at it.

Bah. A one year wonder;).

I didn't think there were any rules, and my brain immediately went to the "Pride of the Yankees" file for the Iron Horse.

Toddzilla 06-16-2006 07:15 PM

Crash Davis was the all time minor-league home run king (in the movie) so to insinuate he didn't have pop is rigoddamndiculous. If he's not the starting C, that invaldiates your entire list.

Coffee Warlord 06-16-2006 07:16 PM

Penciled in Benny, and there you go.

Ironhead 06-16-2006 07:20 PM

What about these guys?

SP: Sammy Bodeen (Talent for the Game)
1B: Jack Elliot (Mr. Baseball)
OF: Max "Hammer" DuBois (Mr. Baseball)

is that the dennis haysbert character?

he has to get some props for being able to make the list as two different characters from two differnt movies (much like costner for BD and FLOTG)

Yep, that's him.

Bearcat729 06-16-2006 08:03 PM

Screw the DH because Roy Hobbs can pitch and hit cleanup

Parkman did it in the Show, baby. THE SHOW! Davis couldn't cut it in the show.

Random baseball movie trivia: former Blue Jay manager and ESPN announcer Buck Martinez plays the catcher in first scene of Mr Baseball.
