What is you Ideal Home Arcade?

I'm curious as to what people would put in a home arcade, if they could afford one.

So, the scenario is:
You've just bought a new house, and have thought that it would be cool to have an Arcade Room. You can put a few of your favourite arcade games in the room, but it's not a gigantic room. I'm not setting any sort of minimums or maximums on the number of arcade machines you can put in the room, but keep it reasonable please. :)

As for my choices... right now I would put in:
  • The Simpsons
  • X-Men (the one where you can have a bunch of people playing)
  • Raiden 2 (or some sort of similar shooter)
  • WWF Wrestlefest
  • That baseball pinball game with ramps that come up in certain situations, and you can win cards... I loved that game
  • House of the Dead

KevinNU7 06-20-2006 11:43 AM

Air Hockey

General Mike 06-20-2006 11:43 AM

That;s a great list. One game I'd add is the NFL Blitz/NBA Showdown all in 1 set with the huge screen. Also SF Rush 2049.

condors 06-20-2006 11:50 AM

i would have to have defender, missile command, and spy hunter

Mustang 06-20-2006 12:01 PM

1. Joust
2. Galaga
3. Dragon's Lair
4. Cyberball

Schmidty 06-20-2006 12:07 PM

1. Journey the game (No joke)
2. Tron
3. Killer Instinct 2
4. That golf game with the ball
5. Rygar (sentimental choice)

I'm forgetting some, but I'll add them if I think of them,

Izulde 06-20-2006 12:09 PM

1. Derby Owner's Club (the 4-seat one so I can squeeze in another game)
2. Golden Axe

DanGarion 06-20-2006 12:10 PM

An modded xbox with mame, nes, snes, n64 emulators. :)

Arctus 06-20-2006 12:26 PM

I've only mentioned this game to my wife about a 1000 times. It will be mine one of these days.

Pumpy Tudors 06-20-2006 12:34 PM

Mustang nailed the ultimate arcade game. You can't have an arcade without Cyberball. YOU JUST CAN'T.

Wolfpack 06-20-2006 12:35 PM

Gyruss
Pac-Man
Cruisin' USA
Time Crisis (the original where half the fun was keeping up your accuracy percentages)
NFL Blitz/NBA Jam (updated to present teams, of course)
Ninja Gaiden

cartman 06-20-2006 12:48 PM

South Park pinball machine
The OLD Atari football game with the trackball on each end
Kangaroo (most probably don't remember this, it was Atari's answer to Donkey Kong. I played the hell out of that game at the arcade. In fact, I had the nationwide high score on it for a month. I'll have to dig out the old copy of Electonic Games magazine)
A Red White and Blue vegas slot machine
USA vs. USSR bubble dome hockey game
Two skeeball lanes

Samdari 06-20-2006 12:56 PM

High Speed Pinball
Cyberball

Mustang 06-20-2006 12:58 PM

Well, of course you had the high score on it.. no one played that one. Were you good at Amidar too?? :D

Ah! The Canada vs. USSR bubble home game would be cool too!

Franklinnoble 06-20-2006 01:09 PM

NBA Jam - the original, when Charles Barkley and Dan Majerle were on the Suns
Star Wars (the old-school sit-inside-and-shoot-the-Asteroid-esque-Death-Star model)
Black Knight (old pinball game - must have played it a billion times at the Wisp Ski Resort in Deep Creek Lake, Maryland. My brothers and I were very competitive on that).
AfterBurner II

I'd also go for an air hockey table and maybe a skee-ball lane.

Subby 06-20-2006 01:13 PM

Tempest
Donkey Kong
Defender
Pac-Man
Air Hockey Table
Good pinball machine
Keg-o-rator

Chubby 06-20-2006 01:13 PM

Simpsons pinball machine
Star Wars Triology w/seat
NBA Jam
Gauntlet
Pole Position II

Schmidty 06-20-2006 01:14 PM

I'm really suprised that I'm the only one who said Tron.

sovereignstar 06-20-2006 01:17 PM

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
NBA Jam
Tekken 3
Final Fight

Edit: Yeah, and the USA vs. USSR bubble dome hockey game that cartman mentioned

Same here. I think I've played Tron more than any other arcade game. It was great, though I think I only ever got to "Level 4" once. The difficulty curve on that game was insane. First level, painfully easy. Second level, a bit trickier, but still quite doable. Level Three? Near insanely difficult. Level Four? Forget it.

Celeval 06-20-2006 02:32 PM

Gauntlet
Galaga
Ms. Pac Man (wife's favorite)
Star Wars (the original blow-up-the-death-star version with the vector graphics)

Terps 06-20-2006 02:54 PM

WWF Wrestlefest
NBA Jam
Gauntlet
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
The Simpsons

dawgfan 06-20-2006 03:01 PM

- Cyberball Tournament Edition (the multiplayer one)
- NBA Showtime/NFL Blitz combo
- Battle Zone
- I can't think of the name, but there was a baseball arcade game in the late '80's that featured spring-mounted joystick for batting (pull back and release at the right time) and a side-mounted joystick for pitching (pull back for velocity, angle it for the amount and direction of curve)
- Addams Family pinball machine
- at least four flatscreen TV's with individual Xbox360's networked together for mulitplayer goodness
- a Wii when it comes out with many classic Nintendo games downloaded from their online service
- air hockey table
- classic foosball table

Could be - I don't remember the name, just the physical setup of the game. I thought the joystick thing worked really well, especially the pitching portion.

Sounds like Bottom of the Ninth to me.

Pumpy Tudors 06-20-2006 03:12 PM

Dola

Do you remember this baseball game ever saying in a really creepy voice, "TIME IS RUNNING OUT" when your game time was about to elapse? If so, that was Bottom of the Ninth.

Sounds like world series baseball to me. Here is the link with the description.

A baseball game that offered many more play options than previous video baseball games. The game used analog joysticks for precise control of swings and pitches.

Ah, I kinda remember World Series Baseball. I don't remember the analog joysticks being spring-mounted like dawgfan mentioned, but I could be wrong.

Another question for dawgfan about this game: Were the "joysticks" actually about as thin as a paper clip? Just small little silver metal pieces, rather than a whole joystick?

Suburban Rhythm 06-20-2006 03:28 PM

Bubble hockey is a must!

Spy Hunter, so I can hear the song over and over again.

Zaxxon and Dig Dug and Rampage.

Mustang 06-20-2006 03:29 PM

Wonder if it was the same baseball game I was trying to remember. There were 2 modes - HR Derby and regular game. .25 cents usually bought you 2 innings and the game kept track of your stats so, you could come back, log back on and start playing again....

Miller Time 06-20-2006 03:37 PM

ESPNZone in Times Square, NYC has this exact game. too lazy to confirm, but i remember loving that swingable joystick and the MLB rosters (from like the early-to-mid 90's).

Maple Leafs 06-20-2006 03:41 PM

Ring King -- I miss making the guys spin around with a roundhouse
Wrestlefest -- that game was just awesome
TWA Wrestling -- The one with Koko Savege and The Piranha
World Series Baseball -- "Thank you, very much!"
Cyberball -- Naturally
Blades of Steel -- That damn trackball made my hands bleed

Two with names I can't remember:

- The baseball game that had real MLB players and the all-star rosters from like 1991. The AL had Cecil Fielder and Canseco.

- The one-on-one hockey game with the blue guy vs the red guy.

Suburban Rhythm 06-20-2006 03:41 PM

Also add Karate Champ to my list...

spleen1015 06-20-2006 03:46 PM

X-Men without a doubt and Ring King.

This made me think of Hit the Ice: Open Ice Challenge or something like that. I played that a lot as a kid, but I don't know if it'll hold up today for me.

Grammaticus 06-20-2006 03:49 PM

Asteroids
Defender
Wizards of Whor
Galaxia
Centipede
Vanguard
Track & Field
And Yes………TRON

I think that was a two-on-two, NBA Jam type game. I remember playing it in college. You're apparently a lot younger than me.

Now that I think back, I think the one I'm thinking of was called Hat Trick. It was cool because the players left little lines in the ice.

Gauntlet (Elf needs food!)
Galaga
Cyberball
Donkey Kong
Donkey Kong Jr.
Millipede
R-Type
Air Hockey
Pinball machines...lots of them.

I would probably spend more time pinballing than playing all the others combined.
