Is their any chances for Front Office Football to have a Free Download?

Since Sports PC Games have Free Downloads of Full Version Games (Sports Games like Baseball Mogul 2006, Out Of The Park 5, etc.) When will the Full Version Front Office Football 2004 and Front Office Football The College Years, could have a Free Download forever?

Vince 06-20-2006 07:27 PM

I'm guessing never. Just a thought.

GoldenEagle 06-20-2006 08:11 PM

Yea, I do not think you have much chance of seeing that happen, especially with TCY since it is the only generation of that product.

I wonder if developers who have done this have seen any type of monetary gain from releasing past versions?

Chubby 06-20-2006 08:14 PM

I believe Jim still makes a couple of bucks off of TCY and at this point it's all gravy. I don't see any reason for him to have it be free.

Yeah, i wonder if you released, say FOF4, as free ware if it would have any kind of sales impact.

Young Drachma 06-20-2006 08:31 PM

Seems to me like people wanting something for nothing. People still buy Nintendo games or purchase used games all the time and yet, they want small developers to give their games away.

If they choose to do it, that's super. But I don't see why people would expect others to follow in this regard, just because someone else did it.

Especially since he doesn't release a new game every year.

I dunno... I don't see much problem making old versions of FOF freeware at this point. I really can't see it having a negative impact, and, in fact, it might draw in some new customers who find the game while searching for a free football sim, and then decide to pay for the updated version.

Anthony 06-21-2006 10:32 AM

i'd love to have FOF2 for free

stevew 06-21-2006 11:06 AM

I wish i still had my receipts for the 2 EA versions of FOF I bought. I loved those games.

jianoran 06-21-2006 11:41 AM

We hope we can see it when Solecismic Software will no longer order the retail versions Front Office Football 2004 and Front Office Football The College Years so both versions will have a Free Retail Version for Download (no ads, no time limits, no free trials, no credit cards etc.), i can't to download without a free trial and without a retail version.

stevew 06-21-2006 11:49 AM

Yeah, at first i maybe thought a bit differently, but this guy just wants something for nothing, and is too cheap to buy a game that is only 30 bucks.

rkmsuf 06-21-2006 11:50 AM

Ah, I see now.

stevew 06-21-2006 11:51 AM

I don't get it?

st.cronin 06-21-2006 11:51 AM

I think it would be nice if people gave me stuff for free, too.

I don't see a reson to do that to be honest with you. There is a demo of both games available, and Jim's demos don't have advertising in them. They are limited in that you can only play through the first few weeks of the season, but then again it is a demo.

I understand the logic behind Mogul's and OOTP's decisions to make their old games freeware, but this is the exact reason to me why I don't see the upside -- it's probably a wash between the few people who actually try the free game and buy a new one and the people who just mooch off the old game and then want to know why you're not giving them something else for free.

I also think it says a lot about the product. I think some companies go the freeware route because they need the publicity. I think Jim's games speak for themselves. If you need a free version of FOF to get you to buy FOF, then I think you just don't get it.

kcchief19 06-21-2006 11:58 AM

Anyone want to start the pool on the thread lock and/or user ban? I'll take 12:15.

Grammaticus 06-21-2006 12:44 PM

Yeah and I was wondering when someone would like to come by, mow my lawn and clean my pool for free. I really can't wait until that happens.

Grid Iron has the .exe for download, and if you owned it before you can get the license again...but the problem is that if you have both FOF2 and FOF2K4 on your computer you have to do some funky stuff in order to play them both.

Took the words right out of my mouth.

Then jumbled them up, and spit them out.

Having just read through the blackjack thread, I felt the need to return to what I consider the beginning...
