The Return of Futurama

From Variety:

Comedy Central has resurrected the former Fox series Futurama, ordering 13 episodes to debut in 2008. The deal builds upon the cable channel's acquisition of the 72-episode library last fall.

Discussions about a revival of the half-hour began in earnest earlier this year between Futurama producer 20th Century Fox
Television and series creators Matt Groening and David X. Cohen.

Actors Billy West, Katey Sagal and John DiMaggio are onboard for the new episodes that will continue the story of the pizza delivery boy, accidentally frozen for 1,000 years, who wakes up in the future.

Futurama has traveled a course similar to that of
animated series Family Guy, which also was cancelled and later brought back after DVD releases and off-network repeats grew a new fanbase.

2008?!?! But I want them NOW!!

Warhammer 06-24-2006 10:03 AM

Why do I get the feeling that AdultSwim only plays about 30 of the 72 episodes over and over again?

PackerFanatic 06-24-2006 11:17 AM

Excited :) Bout damn time, IMHO.

Pumpy Tudors 06-24-2006 11:34 AM

Good grief, what happened to just letting shows die? Can we get Charles in Charge back?

Joe 06-24-2006 11:35 AM

its not as bad as family guy, but it should have remained dead too

cthomer5000 06-24-2006 12:14 PM

It's the best animated show of all time, hands down. You whiners aren't going to be forced to watch. You do realize that, right?

"". Futurama is light years better than Family Guy, and if I may be so bold - better than Simpsons at peak value (though I recognize this is probably debatable).

Yeah, but we lost Charles in Charge, yet this show keeps coming back.

cthomer5000 06-24-2006 12:36 PM

How does it "keep" coming back? This is the first time it will be returning in any form since August 2003.

I think you are taking me too seriously.

cthomer5000 06-24-2006 12:37 PM

plus, Charles broke out an entirely different family at one point. He already got a second crack when he should have been cancelled.

I take my Futurama very seriously.

Pumpy Tudors 06-24-2006 12:41 PM

Wasn't this one of the shows that often got pre-empted by NFL football on Fox? I thought the show was dead a couple of times, and then it would pop back on TV somehow. That's really what my reference was about, although I guess I'm wrong.

Either way, Charles in Charge sucked when the Pembroke family was around. The Powells made that show. They should get all the cast back (except for Justin Whalin, who was a waste). Does Charles in Charge come back? Noooooo. Futurama is taking Charles in Charge's place, and I will not stand for it!

Yeah, it was often pre-empted and moved around. It's almost like FOX wanted it to fail. You'd think they'd have shown Matt Groening a little more respect, since he made the fucking network.

I thought Aaron Spelling made the network.

King of the Hill is the greatest animated show ever (to me), and definitely the most underestimated.

I like all of the others, but KotH has lovable characters, is funny and silly, but also semi-realistic. It's a great combination.

Now I'll sit back and watch you guys tear down my favorite show. :(

I am weak.

ThunderingHERD 06-24-2006 02:57 PM

King of the Hill is a very good show, but I'd definately rank it behind The Simpsons and Futurama. It would be better if it had the courage to let its pathos play out to its natural conclusion instead of copping out at the end.

dixieflatline 06-24-2006 03:46 PM

I want Charles in charge of me.

I'm still waiting on Cop Rock to return. That was the best musical police show ever, and that isn't debatable.

It's all opinions brother. I'm not trying to people that I'm smarter than them, or anything else.

WVUFAN 06-24-2006 09:14 PM

The best animated comedy ever is Akira.

wait ... it's not supposed to be a comedy? Sure coulda fooled me.

cartman 06-24-2006 09:39 PM

King of the Hill does do a spot-on job of recreating small town Texas life. Go to any rural Texas town of 20,000 or less, and you will feel like you are in a real life version of Arlen.

Speaking of Scooby, the new CW Network is coming out with a new Scooby cartoon series this fall. It's a "reimagining" of the Scooby Doo "mythos" and this is the synopsis (no, I'm not kidding, it's this bad):

Everybody's favorite quivering sleuths -- Shaggy and his lovable Great Dane, Scooby-Doo -- are back in a new adventure that will anchor the "Too Big For Your TV" programming block. In this comedy from Warner Bros. Animation, Shaggy and Scooby live in the bling'd-out mansion of Shaggy's Uncle Albert, solving mysteries with the help of a transforming Mystery Machine which, at the click of a remote, can morph into one of a number of modes of transportation. New Scooby Snacks infused with a top-secret nano-technology allows our canine hero to fly, become a towering robot or even turn himself into a giant magnet, which comes in handy as Shaggy and Scooby-Doo carry out their new mission: protecting the Scooby Snacks and keeping them safe from those who want them for evil.

I usually wait to see at least 2 episodes before I declare a show a favorite. :p
