It's the superbowl... who do you want?
Okay, this may be a total blow-out but I'll see if it turns out to be interesting anyway...
It's the 2004 superbowl, Tom Brady went out with an injury in the 4th quarter of the conference championship... you have two QBs to choose from to start for you in the SB... Terry Bradshaw or Dan Marino? Both in their primes, ready to play... you can't switch up during the game, and you can't pick to play Brady with two broken legs, even though he could quite possibly play better (getting that one outta the way). Who do you pick? (I'm using the Pats so there are no ties to the Steelers, and it's a neutral team) Poll following.. |
wonder if the steelers would have won 6 in a row if marino was QB during the 70s
|
Marino. No question.
|
Yeah um, Marino throwing downfield to Swann and Stallworth? Handing off to Franco and Rocky? With the Steel Curtain shutting down the opponent? That would be pretty sweet. I have nothing against Bradshaw who accomplished alot in his career, but I would take Marino.
|
Fritz Pollard, or Jeff George.

I remember that interview where Bradshaw is describing the thrill of a possible game-winning drive. "Gimme my guys, gimme (so and so). Gimme my timeouts" etc. I love what Bradshaw did. I admire his affinity and love for the game. Maybe his guys wouldn't have chosen him? I don't know. |
Shane Falco obviously.

No way, did you see his Sugar Bowl Performance? |
Bradshaw.

Steve Grogan
|
Ditka.
Final score will be Ditka 437, NFC team 3. They get a field goal wihle Ditka celebrates with 20 seconds left in the 1st half by doing all the cheerleaders. |
Ditka never coached or played in the AFC, to my knowledge.

Here's why I picked Bradshaw:
You have the player for one game, not for a season or longer to establish a rapport with the players. Marino is talented, sure, and an amazing passer, but guts and instant rapport and thinking are Bradshaw's key. Specifically, neither would have time to learn the offensive system, but Bradshaw called his own plays, and was an offensive coordinator on the field. Therefore, Bradshaw over Marino every time. |
Marino for sure, he is smarter, a better passer and has the most come from behind victories when his team enters the fourth quarter trailing.
Now when it comes to going out after the game to celebrate, you may want to hang out with Bradshaw. |

So for Marino this game would be played in the regular season? |
Drew Bledsoe.
|
I picked Bradshaw...I'd rather have Elway (and yes I'm incredibly biased). :)

Marino called his own plays, too. In fact, one of the problems Marino and JJ had was JJ took away Marino's ability to audible. Marino was one of the smartest QB's in the league. |
Bradshaw for a playoff game, absolutely.
|
I'd trust the immortal Trout Rectum before anyone of those jabronies.
|
"So for Marino this game would be played in the regular season?"
Quote:
I thought that was pretty well played, actually... :D PS I'll take Jim Druckenmiller. |
Joe Gilliam
|
If it's just one quarter, I'll take Doug Williams.
|
Marino and here's why:
Calling plays? Marino did that, johnson ruined him by taking this abitlity away. Arm strength, no offense to Bradshaw but he couldn't touch dan's gun. Accuracy, bradshaw had very little. Marino could hit a dime buried in the grass at 70 yards. The real kicker is release time. The ball left marino's hands faster than any QB in the game. EVER. You get rid of the ball quick you don't get hit. Perhaps Terry would have a brain cell intact if he understood that throwing the ball sooner was better than scrambling(badly) as he did and getting kiled on every 3rd pass attempt. Bradshaw was made great by the unbelievably superior players around him. In this situation he's the worst possible choice. Marino EVERY time. |

I can't believe this is tied. Don't you people remember 96 Maximum Flanker Post??? The man got a concussion on the play and STILL hit Swannie to make it 21-10.

The problem is that most people on this board are too young to remember watching Bradshaw play. If it were a Joe Montana - Dan Marino debate, it would be a landslide. There's no doubt that Marino was a better passer, but people here can remember the Super Bowls that the 'Niners won. Not so much with Bradshaw. |

Then it's even funnier. It's just an anti Marino vote meaning the board is spot on here. |

1 and would have been more if not for the entire universe being against him. If only he got to play in more playoff games he might have had a fighting chance. |
Well, I'm 33 or something, and I barely remember watching Joe Montana play, and don't remember Terry Bradshaw at all. I do remember Joe Namath quite well, though, and, of course, I have extremely vivid memories of Steve Grogan.

snicker, and who's fault is that? Surely not Dan's... lol |

I dunno... I'm 32 in August, and the first Super Bowl I remember watching was SB16. I was only five when Bradshaw won his last Super Bowl, and I have no memory of it. I think I'm pretty "average" age-wise around here. |
