I have been pronouncing it so-la-siz-mick and figured it may be wrong, but I don't know which one is the correct way to pronounce it.

I know I've told this story here before, but Solecismic came into being one night in 1994 or 1995.
I had just joined AOL (back when it was the only real option for home internet service) and I was just getting into their trivia contests. People always played under handles, so I needed to create one. Since I'm an old English major, and the theme of many of the games I played was literature, I wanted something obscure that English majors might "get." So I took the word Solecistic, which means making a mistake, or a grammatical mistake, and I made a pun out of it. Solecismic is an error about a word describing an error. Absolutely hilarious, right? Right? A year or so later, when I decided it might be fun to create games for a living, I needed a company name. The literature I read from the Small Business Association said that the best company names were from made-up words. That way, you're far less likely to engender confusion or lawsuit situations. So I took my AOL screen name. We've been talking about internet dating in other items here. I met my wife through the AOL Trivia channel. |
There was internet in 1994?
Just kidding. Great story. |
FYI, from Websters:
Source: Webster's Revised Unabridged Dictionary (1913) Solecistic \Sol`e*cis"tic\, a. Solecistical. Ergo Solecismic = \Sol`e*cis"mic\ |
What are you getting at? Solcismical?
