Print to File
So I've tried a couple of times (mostly halfheartedly) to set up a text-only printer since I got my new computer. For some reason, I can never find where the heck the thing sends whatever text documents it creates. Here's what I've done...
Control Panel -> Printers and Faxes Add Printer Use the Following Port: FILE: (Print to File) Manufacturer: Generic -- Printers: Generic/Text Only When I go to print something like a roster dump from FOF, and select the printer, it asks me to name the file, then pretends like it has done something. No amount of searching can find said file afterwards, however -- everything from a search for the filename, to a search through my entire computer for *.txt files. Any ideas? |
Have you considered saving them as PDF files. This free software will allow you to save your output as PDFs and it asks you where it wants you to save them. Pretty handy.

you have to specify a directory when it prompts you for a file name.
For example, "c:\FOF\roster.txt" instead of just "roster.txt" |
Good call yabanci -- SackAttack was just going over that with me on Trillian.
For what it's worth, ant, that PDF thing works really well too. |

great find - I have the full adobe software which allows this but costs over $400. This is an awesome alternative. |

If you are using Windows XP, the printer text file should be saved under C:\Documents and Settings\User Account. Just replace C: with the letter for the drive and replace "User Account" with the name of the user account that you are currently logged into. The name of the file should be what ever you named it without any extension attached to it. So, if your user account name is Bob on the C: drive, and you called the file test, it would be saved as... C:\Documents and Settings\Bob\test It will not have a .txt attached at the end of the file. |
