FOFC Meetup: Detroit Edition

So Detox and I were thinking, with the Tigers on their miracle run, and football season kicking into gear, now would be a great time for a celebration of Detroit sports with our fellow southeast Michigan/northwest Ohio FOFC'ers. We were thinking something along the lines of heading to a sports bar to catch a Lions or Tigers game around the Royal Oak/Ferndale/Troy area, since it seems like that's where a lot of folks on here are from. Date/Time is up for debate, but a Wednesday or Thursday evening might be best for a Tigers game. Drop a post in here if you are interested, or PM Detox or myself.

DeToxRox 08-08-2006 08:23 PM

I'll bring the college chicks.

I knew I could count on you for something.

M GO BLUE!!! 08-08-2006 11:16 PM

I'll be in Detroit next week!

Greyroofoo 08-08-2006 11:20 PM

I might be in Michigan in a couple weeks

TLK 08-09-2006 12:08 AM

I'm in as long as the time works. I have weekends off, but work nights during the week. Perhaps a Saturday afternoon for college football?

That could definitely work too.

I'll be out of town then, or else I would definitely let you buy me a couple beers :D

Pumpy Tudors 08-09-2006 07:57 AM

I predict that Eastern Michigan will score more points than the Detroit Lions this season. Ship it.

Passacaglia 08-09-2006 12:15 PM

I go to Detroit pretty often, course most of those weekends, I'm really busy. But who knows, I might be able to make it!

Bea-Arthurs Hip 08-09-2006 12:29 PM

I would be down for this.

You may be on to something here. Of course, Eastern's D will allow more points than the Lions and Eagles score combined.

Router Help 08-09-2006 03:35 PM

I'm down. I'll be out of town Aug. 21-28 however.

DeToxRox 08-09-2006 07:00 PM

College football sounds good. But yeah weekend works best.

gi 08-10-2006 07:57 AM

24 Seconds has okay beer (Front is better) and good TV's. Plus I could walk to the bar. :)

Wednesday's is out for me because I either have volleyball or tickets to the game. Thursdays are much better. Weekends are workable.

The Front is the absolute greatest bar ever. I try to get there a couple times a month. 24 wouldn't be a bad place to go, its no more than a mile or two for 4 or 5 of us.

If I remember correctly though, the Front doesn't have the greatest TV's to watch the game. Anyone?

No, the TVs there suck. I just meant that, in general, it is a great bar. But not the best place to go for a general FOFC meetup.

bosshogg23 08-10-2006 09:26 PM

Damn gents, I will be in town for my sister's wedding Aug 25-27. Rehearsal crap and actual wedding stuff will prevent me from attending. Maybe next time.

(Spent the first 21 years in Michigan)

Honolulu_Blue 08-14-2006 08:44 AM

I'll be up for this.

I can promise no college chicks.

Did I miss where it was decided it would be that weekend? I'll be in town that weekend as well, but my own wedding stuff will prevent me from attending.

No, the weekend is still up in the air, but I think a college football Saturday looks to be the best bet. Any takers for the 2nd, 9th, or 16th?

16th is the high school hockey golf outing, as one of the coaches I gotta' be there. Plus it's a helluva lot of fun. The other two work.

Router Help 08-14-2006 12:38 PM

9th is looking like the best for me.

Honolulu_Blue 08-14-2006 12:41 PM

Between the 2nd and 9th, 9th is best for me as well.

Balldog 08-14-2006 12:49 PM

I am actually moving to Sterling Heights/Uttica in two weeks!

Leave the Buckeye swag at home and we're okay. :)

Moving for a job or what? Not too far away at all from us.

If ya got any q's or stuff about the area feel free to ask.

ice4277 08-14-2006 01:00 PM

dola

It sounds like the 2nd or 9th would work best for most folks. Personally, I think the 9th may be better, some of us probably have Labor Day weekend plans.

Yes, I got a job in Sterling Heights. Going to look at a couple apartments tomorrow, one in Utica and the other in Shelby Twp. One of my good friends lives in Sterling Heights, so I am somewhat familiar with the area.

Balldog 08-14-2006 01:31 PM

Oh and Go Buckeyes!

You're probably safer being an OSU fan in Michigan than a Michigan fan in Ohio.

But you'll still get you tires slashed ;)

so does sept 9 work for most people?

Yeah, that should work. We just need to narrow a place down. Any suggestions from folks? Off the top of my head, Spectadium, BW3's, 24 Seconds, Bailey's would all be solid choices.

9th works for me.

gi 08-25-2006 12:46 PM

I can do the 9th.

JeeberD 08-28-2006 12:59 PM

Y'all need to watch the UTEP-Texas Blech game on CSTV and try to catch me making a drunken fool of myself in the Sun Bowl!

That is what the drunk thread here is for ;)

Ok, it sounds like the 9th is the date. Next question, where do you all want to go?

What's good in Ferndale, Berkley, Royal Oak for Football watching?

Mr. B's or Snookers in Royal Oak?
Buffalo Wild Wings in Ferndale?
Berkley?

I am heading out on the Royal Oak pub crawl tonight, so I can see if there are any other decent places in Royal Oak for this. Thus far I've done very little in the way of bar hopping in Royal Oak.

GoldenEagle 08-29-2006 03:44 PM

I will be there.

ice4277 09-05-2006 05:58 PM

So, is there still a desire for this to happen this weekend?

Balldog 09-05-2006 06:28 PM

Count me out, I'm heading back home to watch the OSU-Texas game with my old man and golf with my brother this weekend.

ice4277 09-06-2006 03:01 PM

With the lack of response on this, it might be a good idea to hold off for a couple weeks.

Honolulu_Blue 09-06-2006 03:05 PM

Yeah. This weekend quickly filled up on me without me having much (if any) say about it.
